- When traveling through Tucson, everyone mentioned that I must see "Mark Dimmitt"-a biologist by trade but also a plant breeder and aficionado in life. Mark's Tucson home has sprawling cacti and colorful greenhouses that are abounding in a range of plants-from Adenium to Phalaenopsis. His biggest pursuit in plant breeding is to find the perfect crimson red in a range of flowers, which he'll take us through in this video.

Seeing him at the age of 77 having all this energy and strength to do all that makes me more optimistic about my future. It definitely deserves more episodes, one for each group of plants.
We keep ourselves healthy and tip top shape and we will hopefully have a longer chance to engage in what we love! That in itself is restorative.
I was wondering of the staff management and maintenance of this magnitude and he is still so passionate .🥰😀💚💚❤
@@my_garden.secrets I also have a large collection of succulents, tropicals and fruit trees and I feel the same. 😀
Passion is probably healthy. Amazing man.
Thanks a thousand times, this is wonderful I wish I had all those plant.
I love these greenhouse tours. Please keep them coming. This guy is amazing. Maybe another tour with him again?!
His memory is impeccable! He's also fun to watch, very nice, and informative!
He's an Icon, a Legend, The Moment.
Oh my god ! What a fabulous collection from hot desert conditions desert plants to adeniums to totally contrasting environment of orchids and that too mind boggling colours, variety and range. Incredible! Thank you Summer ! You are a star ! 🥰🥰🥰🤎🤎💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
As a lady who has a rose called “screaming neon red” and a “holy grail” hibiscus, I love the commitment to the ultimate red!! ❤❤❤
His Adeniums are absolutely amazing. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Best ones I've ever seen! So used to seeing the grafted types.
What a great video. This summer desert series is fantastic!
Glad you're enjoying it. A bit of a diversion but I''ve enjoyed my time in Tucson getting to know so many new plants.
Stunning !! That could have gone on longer or have made two episodes! What a delight. Thanks !!
Glad you enjoyed. With many of these tours, they can go on and on. So many details that one can do!
I agree .
Mark knows what he likes and build an amazing collection, like him I want to be planting my whole life. Thank you Summer for going around showing us people like Mark, passionate about plants. ❤
Stupendous! , Unbelievable!, Stunning Mark Dimmitt is a genius. Thank you so much for that incredible tour.
I just started obsessing over Adeniums so I REALLY loved seeing his collection! Spectacular!
Had to leave another comment bc of Mark’s love of colors. “I love green flowers, black flowers…” along with his quest for the perfect red and offensively orange. I just couldn’t identify more with someone’s sense of color
Wow love Mark Dimmit's collection. Haha love how unashamedly he is into extreme colours "I want them so red they hurt the eyes" or whatever he actually said :D
volcano sunset needs to be in my life, loving these desert nurseries. thanks, cheers.
What a nice man. Educated and thoughtful.
Such an amazing collection! I've never seen so many adeniums and absolutely love the caudex + prolific blooming combo and would gladly take one of his "failed reds" lol.
I am halfway through the video but I got SO excited to see Mark’s Desert Rose collection because I have ALWAYS said they are the most underrated plants. Absolutely beautiful little flowering trees. I mostly have grafted arabicums from Thailand, where they’ve been breeding some amazing striped and double-flower types.
I really hope all these amazing individuals have these spectacular collections protected and carried forward long after they are gone.
I share the same thoughts. 🥰💚
WOW WOW WOW That was amazing! So lucky to be around such beauty for work. Well done to Mark. Super impressive. Thank you both for the tour. I’m located in Australia and have never seen a Dendrobium before. I will have to try hunt one down.
😀😀💚right ?
He has so much knowledge. And a very skilled breeder wow!!!
Indeed !
Desert roses are my favorite. I have several hundred of them myself but seeing his collection is inspiring.
Hi Summer Rayne, what an awesome collection and I could spend hours in the greenhouse with those beautiful orchids!!
There was so much to see! If we started in the greenhouse, I don't think we would have ever left and seen the rest of the grounds!
Another great episode. Thanks for the tip in this episode and one of the previous episodes about how some Adeniums go limp in low humidity. I moved my plants to a greenhouse where the humidity stays above 60% after hearing that discussion in a previous episode. The plants have already started to perk up.
Gorgeous place, great video, thank you very much for sharing. Loved the orchids too! Mark is very knowledgeable and gives us great tips! Thanks very much for the tour , enjoyed thoroughly 😊! Happy growing 😀
loving these desert plant cactus and succulent series! Thank you! Thank you ! Thank you!
Glad you're liking the diversion!
Thoroughly enjoyed this tour 😄 So many beautiful plants
Agreed! Glad you enjoyed.

this is by far one of my top 2-3 of your videos. love him and i cant wait to own at least one of his incredible plants in the future!
I can imagine waking up and being exhilarated by these beautiful plants! His plant breeding program has produced some gorgeous, colorful plants. Never seen such beautiful Adeniums. I like the arabicum species maybe more than obesum. The last greenhouse was WOW!!
O thank you for this beautiful tour. Big👏👏👏👏 for Him and 🙏🫵🏽
How rich the collection! So much varieties also! It is overwhelming to see , God knows how to manage such big various collection
OMG! Love the growing grounds. What a collection of plants. Grows kind of like me - orchids and cactus!
Lovely Flowers ^~^

I have never seen such abundant blooms like that in adenium

He's definitely surrounded himself with every day bouquets!
Great tour with great mark dimmit . Hats off to his passion and energy . Thx 😊
Beautiful yellow flowers ❤
Amazing collection of plants especially the adeniums and cactus
Stunningly beautiful! His orchid taste is very similar to mine... LOVE the psychopsis!
I love the desert series! Such a nice change from the usual nursery tours.
The first Plumeria is not Vera Cruz Rose. Looks more like a Maui Beauty. VCR has a different coloration, petal shape and a very distinctive curl near the center.
Noted! Glad you're enjoy the tour.
@@summerrayneoakes Any time. Growing these for 20 years, you pick up a few things here and there. lol
Thanks!
Another outstanding video showcasing the another one of Tucson's botanically brilliant! I recommend a video on B&B Cactus Farm, its another jewel of Tucson that is a must-see!
Absolutely amazing man💚 I really want to pay a visit 🥰
Please tell me this man has some help. I can't imagine one person taking care of all of this. This is super human effort, but the results are certainly nothing short of spectacular. Well done Sir.

Glad you enjoyed.
So much beauty 😊
I am a cacti addict. Does Mark Dimmitt sell to the public? I’m loving your videos in Arizona-and all your videos, including Finger Lakes.
Soooooo inspiring!!!
Another reason I love Tucson so much.
Thank you for sharing. Great collection and great man.

This is amazing

Fabulous episode

The cactus flowers are so pretty. So interesting.
wow. truly amazing collection!
Absolutely Magnificent...❤
Wow wow and wow
That place is ❤!
"Surrounded by pink in pursuit of red." 😂
Isn't that just life in a nutshell.
"Pink is just a failed red." 😂 Oh the laughs we had at his Red Talk.
So dope!
i love it!!!
AMAZING! Thank you Summer!
Absolutely!
Hi I just love everything in and out of the green houses❤
Great video, best wishes from India
Lovely to see all these spectacular florals‼️
Thanks
You're welcome!
Amazing! Thank you!
You're welcome.
I have a Eucharis, they aren't as common anymore. But it grew from a single leaf cutting into multiple clusters in only a few years and has flowered once with gorgeous white daffodil like flowers.
Staple your name tags to the pot. I worked in retail nursery business for 20 years. We got tired of customers pulling out the tags and throwing them down. We stapled them to the pot. Problem solved. Beautiful plants you have. Good luck with your red.
Lovely varieties of flowering Adeniums. I love your channel. Always beautiful videos and informative. One humble suggestion, whoever is taking the videos move the camera very fast from plants to people and vice versa which many times cause strain to the eyes and the video turns blurry. So if they move the camera slow that would not strain the eyes. Thank you for all the videos and information. Love them!
💚💚💚
Holy shit his tillandsia are huge! He acted like it was no big deal lol. I wonder what he's using for fertilizer and how often.
I KNOW! Totally full on.
I see these videos and I get so sad I live in Massachusetts, there are no incredible succulent nurseries here, or at least I’m not aware of them
I think your state has some amazing arboretums and private gardens though!
@@summerrayneoakes you are very right! I just wish they all had a little propagations section, maybe I’m just greedy ahahaha
Also if you’re ever in the area, Bonsai West in Littleton MA, is absolutely gorgeous and the people there are awesome!
What most suprised me was the strophocactus witti, you cannot get one here in europe, its my dream to have even a small cutting
I wonder if he knows of aloe cameronii? I have one that gets so red!!
Muito 😂 bom ❤
You're very welcome.
I thought he looked so young for 77.
all mixed up! result: garden market plants!
Must be hard for Mark to find a house-sitter
Maybe he could have tried for kahuna punch or hibiscus punch.
It is Ceropegia stapeliiformis, isn't it?
