In my opinion, health insurance becomes a total rip-off when you've over 65. I decided to self insure at age 60. I put 500,000 Thai baht in a savings account, and I top it up 50,000 baht a year. It's now up to 750,000 and earns 1.5% interest annually.

Wow, i would be more worried about getting to the hospital in time if you have a heart attack or stroke, i think i prefer to have emergency money and have a car in your drive with a family member who can drive you to the hospital in time., or at least a trike stand nearby, any other issues go back home to have it looked at.

I have been in the Philippines 4 years now. If you are relatively healthy need to go to the hospital for small things. It is not worth paying for the insurance, I was dehydrated november of last year. That trip to the hospital IV, Medicine cost me about 2,000 Peso like $40.00 US dollars, just save your money instead of helping the insurance company benefit from it.

For those who have retired from the military, there are several options civilians don't enjoy...Medicare + Tricare for life + any other medical insurance you can pick up for a reasonable price might be doable. I'm pretty sure Guam accepts Medicare as they are part of the US. You may have to pay up front before insurance will reimburse you. There isn't much life that is free.

This is a very expensive medical plan, there are a number of options available in the Philippines that would provide more than adequate coverage for IP (in patient) only, out patient coverage is not necessary as the vast majority of the insured would not use it. So, is this overall saying that unless you have a lot of money saved up, after age 65, you are better off financially with Medicare in America than paying these monthly premiums overseas? Weird to think that as high priced as everything here in America is, anything could be "less" here, but listening to the straight talk from our friend in the video, it sure seems this may be the case. Sad.

I assume you are from the USA and have Medicare Part A. Do you pay for Part B just in case you ever need to return to live in the US? I hear that if you let Part B laps, you pay a 10% per year penalty if you need that coverage if you have to return to the US.

    FYI
Beginning in 2023, the VA will be getting into the life insurance business.
The new law requires the VA to offer all disabled veterans under age 81 a whole-life policy by that date. The program will be similar to Veterans Group life insurance however, veterans must sign up for VGLI within 16 months after leaving the service. The new insurance program will have no such time limit.
Policies will be limited to a $40,000 payout for most veterans when the program begins.
