We have seen versions without it becomes beyond omega level mutants on the same level as Frankling Richards.
He is genetically designed by Sinister to be among the most powerful mutants to be able to even rival or kill Apocalypse etc… the only thing that limits his power is the techno organic virus, that’s why he uses a Gun to not rely too much on his powers because his powers is occupied in controlling the virus not to take over his body.
Cable is an Omega-level telekinetic with an advanced version of the Super Soldier serum. The only thing that stops him from letting loose is the techno-organic virus. Which he uses his telekinesis to hold at bay, but when the rewards outweigh the risks he will cut loose, despite doing so being a risk to his life.

They probably won't kill Jean off until next season since they're setting up Onslaught, and Jean was very much involved in that plotline. They might just make Onslaught kill her instead of Magneto in the Morrison run.

@@arianalikens5300 The time I'm aware of is the Morrison run. It was a gradual process, but she fully became a host again when Magneto was sending her and Wolverine into the sun. Wolverine attempted to mercy kill Jean, but it ended up fully manifesting the phoenix.
A handful of issues later, Magneto had being using a performance enhancing drug that was making him insane, and in the fight, he was cured, but he used the excess power that was still available to him to give Jean a "stroke on a planetary scale" that killed her. She revives herself in the future as the white phoenix of the crown.
