Everyone see’s this as an appetizer before Metroid Prime 4… as a Super Metroid, Zero Misson, Samus Returns, and Fusion fan, I see this as the MAIN COURSE.
Agreed
Yeah i feel pity for the fanboys who think that way.
Dread IS a big deal, im happy since this game's development has no relation to Prime 4 or viceversa.
So all this time Sakamoto and Mercury Steam have been working hard to revive 2D Metroid 😁 while Tanabe is still trying to figure out what to do after NAMCO failed to produce a good Metroid
@@astraldog3359 I think a big reason Metroid fails to sell as well as other Nintendo first party big hitters is the fact that they release at the wrong time. For example, Samus Returns came out for the aging 3DS shortly after the Switch came out when people were hungry for Switch games.
I feel like Dread will be the most important release of the entire series. Switch games just sell. Flat out. There’s no doubt in my mind that this will outsell every Metroid game ever. By how large a margin I have no idea. If this game pushes over 4 million copies, I’ll be fairly confident we will see a new 2D Metroid in the future. A lot is riding on the success of this game.
@@golions13579 i can't agree with that, Fusion and Prime were released early on, had amazing reviews and good(not great) sales, Corruption was also early in the Wii life. I think Metroud just has less appeal than something like Donkey Kong or Zelda.
Samus Returns timing was a little late but still managed to push 500k and was clearly a low budget release, i think Nintendo were happy with it and continued their plans for Dread instead of wasting time porting Samus Returns to Switch
But i agree Dread is gonna push good numbers on Switch, not sure how much but at least biggest 2D Metroid 👍 it was recieved very positively on E3 Direct,Switch software numbers are insane

Alright ladies and gentlemen we got our Metroid announcement, it is time to support the franchise (or continuing to support it).
In case anyone isn't aware, Metroid Dread has been the rumored next 2D installment since Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. It was originally planned and canceled on the Nintendo DS back in 2005. It was even put as an easter egg in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption as a cheeky joke because it had been rumored for a couple years even by that point. This game has been the source of so many memes, speculation, and dashed hopes for the past sixteen years (June 2005 - June 2021).
Thank you! I was so confused.
Is this the Metroid game that Nintendo started over completely?

Thisss. She deserves more games
Coming back here after beating the game, I can tell you all it was absolutely worth the wait.
Theres room for improvement.
@@The_Ostrich Doesn't make him wrong though. Every game ever made has room for improvement.
The only major thing I would've changed is taking a note from Super, by fleshing out the intro in showing Samus landing on the planet & letting you actually descend into Artaria at will, instead of condensing it with a cutscene, as well as making the initial encounter with Raven Beak into a tutorial boss. It could have done a great job setting the tone and easing players into the gameplay and story, all in one fell swoop
The game was good but I wish the music was better, even samus return's soundtrack I thought was better than dread's overly atmospheric soundtrack with barely any memorable songs imo.
Some atmosphere is good, but too much and you just get an other m styled soundtrack.
Hopefully the next game has more memorable music.

Metroid Fusion Samus: _"Finally, the galaxy is at peace..."_
HAL 9000: _"I am sorry, Samus...That is something that I can not allow to happen"_
In Fusion's epilogue Adam mentions to Samus that due to her actions she will be branded a fugitive by the Galactic Federation.
I'd assume she's trying to prove her innocence in this game or she's been in hiding and a critical mission has brought her back into the limelight. I'm very excited to find out what the situation is :)
@@Lucrei. Yes, that is a good point; which would explain why those hunter-robots seem to be immune to Samus's weaponry.
The GF have specifications on Samus's Fusion Suit, since they practically rebuilt it after the X organisms infected Samus in Metroid Fusion.
So, this means that the GF also know how to defeat the Fusion Suit as well.
This scenario equates to some pretty *dreadful* circumstances for Samus in this new game~
@@rossdavis428 they also gave her download data. Wouldn't be surprised if they used those moments to scan her suit and weapons to develop specific things. But honestly her Metroid 4 suit was likely her most powerful main story suit ever seeing its a reviving of her OG power suit but with the added advantage of her fusion suit.
See im already theorizing that due to the actions of Fusion's story that The GF has indeed turned on her and that due to SR the faction of Rogue chozo have stolen either an X sample or Metroid data or both and are attempting to use both somehow.
@@thunderlifestudios I definitely agree with you that the Endgame Fusion Suit is easily the strongest Samus suit to date.
However, everything has a weakness, much like how the original Fusion Suit was weak to the cold and just like how Metroids are weak to the cold as well.
So, this game's trailer leaves me with these my current questions:
- Who/What are the Hunter Robots?
- Why are they hunting Samus?
- And how will Samus be able to defeat them if her weapons do not work on them?
I am interested in doing more research in order to find out the answers~
More people bought the game than the number of people who viewed this trailer, that’s actually insane for the Metroid franchise!
From almost dead, to reborn, to game of the year. Metroid is back and this time, it's here to stay.
Hopefully sales don't drop like crazy if they decide to make another 2D Metroid and Prime 5. I expect sales for Prime 4 will be great because of it's high anticipation but sales for Prime 2 were LESS THAN HALF of the sales for Prime 1. But I'd love to see Metroid enter a new golden age starting with this game.
@@jamespeterson4275 I think the low sales of prime 2 had more to do with it being sandwiched between big games like halo 2 and half life 2 coming out right around the same time

Oh definitely, they're master-crafted pieces of awesome.
same i can't wait for this game to come out!
Zero Mission, Samus Returns, Super Metroid, and then Fusion is the way to experience the 2D series in canon order. (Though you can play the fan game AM2R in place of Samus Returns if you prefer.) The original Metroid 1 and 2 are honestly quite horribly-aged, so it's recommended to experience their stories via the remakes.
Play Metroid zero first.
super metroid was pretty much my favorite game as a kid xD
I can't wait to go on this adventure.
Hi samus
hello TOADmemer
Yeah, you’re a fugitive and the Federation wants to kill you with their E.M.M.I. robots. Hope you are excited.
AND TO FEEL DREAD!!!
One of those trailers I have to rewatch every so often.
Waited over half my life. Worth it.
Literally my entire life, this is the game I was waiting for and I didn't even know it.
It not prime 4, but it's equally as exciting.
@@evanchauvey5417 It doesn't needs to be, it's the main series for god sake.
Yep!
Right? Nineteen frikin years since fusion
“You’re as beautiful as the day I lost you..”
This is probably the best Metroid game ever made, after beating this, I can say that with full confidence.
Lol def not. Maybe the best 2D Metroid, but the best Metroid overall is Metroid Prime.
@@The_Ostrich Prime 1 isn't even the best Prime game, Prime 2 is better
@@squidyouknowI've heard that Prime 1 is basically 3D Super Metroid. Is that true?
@@squidyouknow totally agree, echoes is prime perfection
@@danielthrash It takes a lot of inspiration from Super Metroid but isn't nearly as freeform in progression. It's much more rigid and backtrack heavy. If you can tolerate that, it's a damn good time.
Living Chozo at 1:32
We've only ever met Chozo as statues, robots, or ghosts, but never alive

It’s the one from the 11th memory in Samus Returns

"METROID 5" that's all I needed, lost it.
Think of Jack Nicholson frozen in The Shining.
That's been me since Dread was rumored to be a DS game.
This is fabulous news.
Fashionably late but no biggie
Greatest new
Pokemon is still better
Pokemon is great but not as great as Metroid.
But to each his own
It's almost been one whole year since this trailer hit and became my most anticipated game of 2021. And boy, did it exceed my expectations! Metroid Dread is far and beyond my favorite game of all time. The controls, the map, the bosses, the animations, everything is just top notch. I've beaten it at least 20 times, twice on hard with 100% of items in under 4 hours and I have even gotten to Raven Beak on Dread Mode!
Thank you, Nintendo and Mercury Steam.
Metroid powah!
One freaking year ago already!? Where does the time go, so much has happened in one year alone.
Tell me about it. Honestly it makes me sad noticing time passing faster as I get older.
@@danielthrash You said it, it makes me very depressed with the fact that the older I get, the quicker time seems to fly. Well, let’s make the most of the time we have then.
Gamers discover aging
@@Grindelsire I’ve discovered it alright, I just have yet to come to terms with it XD
With the insanity of the reveal itself, I haven’t seen anyone talking about it, but it’s very interesting that this game seems to features a living Chozo. I’m curious if it connects to the mysterious 11th chozo memory in Samus returns
That's exactly what it is. You can tell from the feathers. It's one of the "Evil/Rogue Chozo", & he appears to have taken over a Galactic Federation facility of some kind if my guess is correct (& thus likely the E.M.M.I.'s as well, as Sakamoto has confirmed that the Federation has lost control of them).
(My guess is that Planet ZDR is a Federation prison planet, where Samus has been imprisoned for the events of Fusion. Hence Samus starting at the planet's center & having to fight her way out to the surface in an inverse of the classic Metroid trope; with her initial escape likely being possible thanks to said Evil Chozo's actions).
I caught that as well. Would be cool if you actually interact with one for the first time in the series.
@@Cooe. She probably got set up by a co-action between some of the Federation higher up and that rogue Chozo. The E.M.M.I.'s are very likely designed to "collect Samus" because, you know, she is very close to the ultimate weapon in the story. how she can contact her computer tho is beyond me.
@@Cooe. No one seems to be mentioning the Chozo presence on ZDR with Chozo statues, recharge stations being Chozo sculpts, occasional strange Chozo architecture more reminiscent to Metroid Prime than Super, and (spoilers) there’s a brief period in the treehouse gameplay where it appears a Chozo warrior in a varia suit is suspended in lava.
It feels like the GF set up a base on a Chozo site, not realizing the Chozo were still around…? On top of that it’s 100% an evil faction. Samus Returns established Aeion energy which came from SR388 and it’s mysteriously present here.
My guess is the evil Chozo stole all of the Aeion and established ZDR. What they’re doing, who knows. There are a lot of potentially interesting twists with this setup.
The story of metroid 5 (dread) is probably the aftermath of Metroid 4 (fusion) due to Samus destroying the research station (BSL) and by killing all the Metroids, again. In Galactic Federation's eyes Samus went rogue for destroying the station, and probably they are hunting her to be taken custody or something.
"Experiment status report update. Metroid project "Dread" is nearing the final stages of completion."
I've got to know. Was this quote from a Metroid game? It feels like it was but I haven't played a lot of the series.

This game is already almost a year old, crazy
I still remember how much I freaked out at this reveal, how I ended up rewatching the trailers nearly every day in excitement, totally in disbelief that my most anticipated game of all time for 15+ years was real, non-stop forming theories in my head about what would happen in the story. So glad it turned out to be every bit as amazing as they made it look in the marketing and maybe even some more.
Everytime I’m sad I come here to remember this happened
*"Dread* it. Run from it. Metroid still arrives."

Metroid Dread & Knuckles
I have waited 19 years for this..
It looks so good!!
Yea
Don't listen to all the Dread haters that could potentially show up. It's not worth it, mate.
Dam near 20 years bro
I agree, it looks good. The graphics could be better sure, but the gameplay and story look interesting.
@@dinar8749 I don't think long-time fans care about graphics, they want a good story and probably more scares (because metroid is basically a horror game, just without the gore)
To those from the past who were worried about this game’s sales, or those happy about Metroid finally getting the attention it deserves: I was one of the converted ones.
I used to dislike Metroid, I had the NES Classics GBA version of the original Metroid as a kid. I would constantly get lost, grew tired quickly (as kids often do) of how little the game apparently offered, and stubbornly assumed this was all this series I knew from Smash Bros. offered. I was content watching my sister play through the series, and I was fine with my Sonic, Pokémon, and JRPGs.
But this. 15+ years later, this announcement plays. I was shaken to my core. I don’t know what it was, the atmosphere, the music, the intense gameplay, the heavy lean into the horror aspect of sci-fi horror. I HAD to play Metroid now. It just looked too good.
So I got myself ready just before launch. That holiday I started with Zero Mission on a GBA emulator, played Samus Returns on the 3DS, got my own cartridge copy of Super Metroid… I even watched the Alien movies to learn about the inspirations lol… at any rate I enjoyed the games so much I eventually got Zero Mission and Fusion together complete in box… I even bought a Metroid NES cartridge and finally conquered my childhood stubbornness. Afterwards I beat Fusion and began Dread, which was everything I could tell it was, and more. Especially that ending. It’s my favorite Metroid to date. Playing Metroid 1-4 beforehand was not only worth it, but also fun experiences in their own rights.
I’ve been hungry for more, so I recently got my hands on the Metroid Prime Trilogy steel book, and now I’m currently playing Prime 1. I have some vague nostalgia from watching my sister play Prime 3, and it definitely seems like the Prime trilogy has the same sci-horror vibes that I liked in Dread as well. What can I say? I guess I’m a Metroid fan now. If there are more people like me out there that got their start with Metroid because of this game, I think the fans have nothing to worry about. Especially with Prime 4, the future is looking bright for Metroid.
Lets go, lets push the remaining 10'000 views till we hit 2 million right when the game releases and call it a day, it was a fun 4 months from reveal to release 🔥
2017: The Treehouse surprises us with Samus Returns out of nowhere.

From this it looks pretty similar to returns in gameplay, so it might be good
They made it super clear in the treehouse presentation that the metroid team are listening to the fans
@@davebradshaw3188 which is funny because I saw a triggered fan in another comment section earlier. Guess you can’t please them all. But I’m personally excited for this game.
@paul they said it wasn’t Metroidvania enough. They also said the enemy placement is bad, personally I don’t know if this is true, I don’t specialize in this, but enemy placement shouldn’t that big of a deal. Unless it’s really bad, and this doesn’t look that bad.

They said it was a myth, they said it was cancelled, that it was never real...
Good thing they put emphasis on the "was" never real.
Well, Sakamoto did say years ago that it wasnt actually cancelled but they had to scrap what they had and he had no idea when it would actually come out. People just kind of gave up on waiting because they thought the series itself was canned and assumed it was cancelled "by default". People had more or less forgotten about it by the time SR came out
