Very useful video - thank you - spent a couple of hours trying to figure all this out for a live Zoom stream with instruments. We had it all done except needed to turn down the Zoom (conferencing) audio feature filter of 'background noise' from 'High' to 'low' as we couldn't hear our gongs. All good now. Cheers!

Same here! Fingers crossed hopefully soon and this will be the deciding (buying) factor for me. One small gripe however is the use of micro/mini USB, as these type of sockets can go faulty easily with wear and tear over the years - a real shame it's not fitted with a USB-C socket
You *can* interface the H8 to an IOS device in Multitrack_PC/Mac mode! It’s undocumented but it works: iPad -> Powered Lightning-USB3 Camera Interface -> Powered USB3 Hub -> H8 The mapping from H8 input names to multitrack channels is weird. Inputs XY go to channels 1&2. Channels 3&4 are reserved. The rest map to channels 5 through 10 (or 12?-I don’t remember which). The mapping may be buried in the manual. I should keep the mapping table with my H8.

I get crackling when usign the Zoom H8 as an audio interface into Ableton 12 on my Windows 11 machine. I've tried adjusting the buffer size, ranging from 64 to 1024, and I still get the crackle. I've tried different USB cables with the same result. The main reason I got the Zoom H8 was to use as an audio interface to record drums, but it's useless to me with all the crackling. I've updated the firmware and the driver, so as far as I can tell, I've exhausted all options in troubleshooting. Help?

I have been fighting with this damn H8 for 3 days trying to get it to work as an audio interface with Adobe Audition. I finally got Audition to recognize the mics plugged into the H8 but tracks 1 and 2 record from each mic into both tracks. Even if I turn off one mic the other still records into tracks 1 and 2 and this is in stereo mix. When I try to connect in multitrack to Audition on my windows laptop I cant even get the app to pic up any sound. I have tried the Zoom H8 ASIO driver and the ASIO4ALL driver and still can't get this H8 to work in any DAW. A little help?
@@fengmike9831 For the Zoom H8 you have to choose mic 5 as the first or "Host" mic to record directly into Adobe Audition using it as an audio interface and then 6+ as each subsequent mic because the H8 reserves the first four mics for the optional capsule..

Solved it, it was the cable. make sure you don't have a charging cable, its missing cables inside. AND...there are quality differences on interface cables. Can work on som, while not on others.
@@Murmur2k apparently there is 'no' Multitrack 12-in/2-out capability on iPad, only stereo 2-in/2-out. Unless of course any firmware update changes this, but the downloadable manual from the Zoom website (as of September 2021) has not been updated to show this yet, so still a deal breaker for some requiring this.

I wish you'd've give it a balanced L & R channel output for studio monitor speakers. Would the line out or headphone monitor, if split into the appropriate cables and jacks to input into my Yamaha Hs5 studio monitors, work?
If they are powered monitors you should be able to split the stereo line-out into L&R for the two speakers. Make sure your speakers are spec’d to accept consumer grade line-out levels. I think most powered speakers do., but it yours don’t they might play at too low a volume for you.
It would be awesome if it connects automatically to the computer. I have the H4N and I cannot really use it for meetings, as it needs a long time to boot and then I need to activate the connection in the menu manually. Would be nice if it does that automatically when the computer powers on.

So far I have an Arturia Microbrute as a controller, a Korg Volca Beats for fun, and Ableton for my DAW. My wish by creating music is to go out and record sounds I like to make a palette and insert rythms with my keyboard afterwards. For field recording I found your Zoom H8 which looks great and the reviews are really good. I see it can also work as an audio interface which is even better... But I couldn't find any information to know precisely if I can connect the H8 to my Arturia Microbrute and my Korg to my PC to create music. Can you tell me if this is possible and which cable I should take to make it work? Thank you in advance!
nodoby answerd to you... I think all you need its an usb cable. Just connect the H8 to the PC, and the Volca and MIcrobrute to the H8... You will need some adapters, cuz The H8 only has XLR and two 6.3mm combos.

Yes, you can connect the outputs of the keyboard to the inputs on the H8 using 1/4" TRS cables and used a micro USB cable, along with Apple's official lightning to USB adapter, to connect the H8 to the iPad.
Hi zoom. in my H8 it turns to 44.1KHz when using in interface mode in Mac with OBS, i was able to use 48kHz before. when i plug H8 to my mac it will first say 44.1kHz then change to 48kHz then later back to 44.1kHz. but with my android phone it just turns 48kHz. i used the guitarlab before just to try it i made sure it is OFF. i turned it off and even reset to factory settings. if anyone can help me resolve the issue i would be really grateful.
Some USB cables are able to transfer power but not data (this is common with micro USB cables for charging phones). Could you test with another USB cable that can transfer both power and data?

Try a better USB cable capable of data & power transfer, rather than the cheaper ones only capable of lower data/power transfers. That solved this issue for me.

Yes, it can. In the System menu - the play key option defines how to set a marker while recording and during playback.
I think the manual says you can create marks when recording in the Field app, but not in the Music app.
