At the time processing 4k files was actually extremely difficult for most editing workstations. Canon was actually genius for downsampling from a 4k sensor into much more manageable file sizes. This made it extremely versatile for lower budget productions to share raw data in small teams thus creating a more seamless and time-saving workflow. Obviously now 4k editing and rendering is a breeze but 12 years ago that MOST DEFINITELY was not the case.
How can CZcams tell it was up red’s ? I’m not sure how their software knows but they will only post the video as 1080p, how to upres in DR you just select the 4k render option and it works very well.
@@kpmedia8977 Any video I upscale to 4k, is recognized as a 4k video file on CZcams's end. There's no way for them to determine what's upscaled and what was native. A 4k file is a 4k file.
After selling most of my professional photo/video equipment years ago, I was looking for an affordable camera to use with a couple of my Canon L lenses that I still had laying around. I had thought about getting a BMPCC, but then stumbled on the C300. It's perfect for what I need it for. It's actually a blessing that it doesn't record at 4k, because I don't need 4k and I would just end up using up a ton of storage space unnecessarily.
2024 calling, and i just paid 500 for the c300 full kit. Amazing camera and worth mentioning the EF mount advantage... Huge availability of top quality EF mount L-IS lenses and now so cheap. R mount has knocked down the prices of EF. 😊
Good video, I’m really loving mine at the moment too. It’s such a pleasure to use and the results are just so satisfying. This camera is value for money and absolutely worth having in your kit, highly recommended.
this camera is designed for LOW battery usage, low storage demands, FAST delivery, HI Shooting ratio scenarios, where people demand all the necessary outputs and inputs. In these scenarios it would still be incredibly usefull today.
hey man i have a question for you, I’ve had this camera for about a year and I was wondering how I can use a v-mount battery on it I’ve only found adapters for the mark 2 and mark 3. Is there any available for this camera? Thanks again
Good info. I suspect they aren't good used camera buys since you mentioned how very, very, very sensitive the monitor cables are to even slight movements which can cause EXPENSIVE repairs. Good to look into Bkackmagic again I suppose
4K isn't 4K Canon took 4 pixels 2x Green 1x Red 1x Blue square and down sampled them to a single pixel. Giving you a full colour pixel, rather than guessing with a Bayer Pattern into 4K which gives you sudo colouring.
no. we have one for a quick run and gun option. you can grab hd sdi out, but its 4:2:2 8bit 1080. You can bypass the long gop compression that way and maybe buy a little bit of color correction space.
when the C300 came out 4k was not yet the big deal it is now so criticizing this body for only being 1080? hmm. i just bought this camera (owner of the old C100) and i have been using Topaz Video AI to uprez to 4k and it looks AMAZING!!!!!!
That’s awesome!! It’s unbelievable what this camera can do even only being at 1080! Plus I totally forgot about external recording so that makes it even better!
Yea it’s definitely much better in my opinion. The 80d does have a really good censor tho, so there may not be too much of a difference. The real difference tho is gonna be the features the C300 has over the 80d
I went with another Canon 1DC. Call me crazy- but weather sealing, tank ruggedness, 4K and bigger sensor won me over. And no cables. The downside is actually stupid- no freaking focus peaking, zebras nor wave monitor… That’s a real crime…

But no option to stop the downsizing?
No but I have rendered mine out to 4k in Davinci Resolve and it is still super sharp but CZcams can recognize that it has been upsized.

I like the new setup Matthew, really informative. Thanks!

Do you happen to have sources where one could see more material from the C300? Like CZcams Channels for example? :)
got my eye on this, thanks for sharing

Good video!! I'm thinking about buying one.
Great video. I love my C300 Mk1. I got mine for $1k AUD which is a bargain. Great for music videos
Love the Asbury shirt!

Your colorist for that reel is phenomenal!
i love the color science and the texture
Can you customize the gamma curves on it?
I am surprised you didn't put 8 bit on the cons. Do you find color Grading easy with the c300?
the c100 is 8 bit the c300 was 10 bit colors

Plus you can convert 1080 edited output files to 4k easily if you need to. 🤔

Have you ever used the 720p 60p and upscale it to 1080?
How do the electronic moving nd filters hold up over time?
The viral hit "What Does The Fox Say" myduc video was shot with the C300, and the 720p was upscaled to 1080p and looked great.
I luv the Canon C300. We used two of them on my movies THE MARTIAL ARTS KID and PAYING MR. McGETTY.
05:57 What lenses did you use here?
I am looking for a C300 Mki at the moment
If the sensor itself is 4k and is hooked up to a 4k external recorder through HDMI, is it possible to capture a 4k image with this camera?
No, sorry it is not. I believe you are at 1080, 4.2.2, 8 bit external
your video was helpful, Which one should I buy for my event video? canon c100 mark ii or c300
If you want 3G SDI, c300. If you want more modern AF, C100mkII, I imagine. There may be other priorities, I dunno :-)
I just got both. 👍
Are you able to get higher resolutions by using something like an atmos ninja over SGI?
no. we have one for a quick run and gun option. you can grab hd sdi out, but its 4:2:2 8bit 1080. You can bypass the long gop compression that way and maybe buy a little bit of color correction space.
I never had a client request 4k delivery, so it's fine. Does it have a c-log option?
it has canon log. its setting "c9" in the custom picture menu.
Can you use a ln externally monitor with an hdmi connection?
Yes you can. I have mine working like this and I love it
Please tell me you've seen the movie Blue Ruin.
I think the reason most of these cameras can film at higher res is because the quality you get when you down sample right? im assuming

Is it better than the c 100. Mk ii?
Bc I tested it against my 80d and the image quality from the c100 was not distinguished

The C300 shoots in a high bitrate MXF format, the files are definitely better quality than the C100 II.
Maybe a stupid question but does the format work in Final Cut?
Sure, no problem with that.
@@itsdanielantunes Thank you.

Canon Cripple Hammer. Everything in Canon is crippled in some way to segment the market.
