I REALLY like the concept of the carbine/pistol pairing. You only need one caliber and matching magazines for both weapons. It's not only efficient but easy on your ammo cache.

I always figured if the police and the military thought a 9mm pistol was good enough for personal defence then a 9mm carbine should be more than enough for personal home defence.

    • @rbrtck
      @rbrtck Před 6 lety +55

+Snadzies More than enough? I doubt it. The reason a pistol is considered "enough" is that it is as much gun as cops can conveniently carry on their hips without scaring everyone and/or escalating a situation with a shotgun or rifle in their hands. And for soldiers, it's all they'd care to carry as a backup weapon--a second rifle would be too heavy and bulky. For fighting they'd all much rather use their long guns, but if a pistol is all they have (cops being separated from their vehicles, or soldiers running out of rifle ammo or having a rifle they've used hard malfunction), then they'll resort to using it.
A home defense situation is different, unless you happen to carry a pistol on your hip all the time (some people do) and are caught outside your home. If in the more likely scenario you are alerted/awakened by the sound of a forced entry into your home, you should use as much gun as you can, just like the police and military would (given a choice), and for most people that would mean a shotgun or rifle/carbine (using centerfire rifle-caliber ammunition) with a reasonable barrel length for maneuverability. I'm not saying that there aren't legitimate reasons for preferring pistols (e.g. maximum maneuverability) or pistol-caliber carbines (maximum controllability and much less blast), but the trade-off is significantly less effectiveness per shot. It may be barely "enough" but it's not nearly as good as the other common options in this respect.
Unless we're talking about howitzers or nukes, you can't have more than enough gun--there are just barely enough and full-fledged enough. ;) One center-of-mass hit from a 12-gauge shotgun loaded with #4 buckshot will put the target down, period. You can't say that about pistol-caliber weapons, which require more accurate (or lucky) shot placement and probably multiple shots per target. Choose whichever option suits you and your situation the best overall, but keep in mind the difference in power and per-shot effectiveness, for which pistol-caliber weapons are only barely enough, not more than enough.

There are many reasons that 9mm was chosen as standard NATO pistol round. It was, as these things are, as much a political and cost/benefit analysis as effective tiveness!
The 7.62 over 5.56, is a case in note. M14 v FN FAL is another.
I used a 9mm SMG in service. Hated being outgunned by proper rifles!
To use such weapons effectively each and every time needs training and continual practice!

@@rbrtck If a 9mm carbine isn't working for you then you're likely getting raided by a swat team. You're saying a 30 round double stack mag in a 9mm carbine isnt going to be enough to take down someone in a home invasion? If you shoot that guy once with a 147 grain pdx1 hes going shit a fuckin brick. Idk why people try to be ready for the most ridiculous shit. Well ummmm what if 10 300 lbs guys in body armor run in my home with AKs duct taped to each hand and drum mags?

To me a good reason to go with an integrally suppressed 9MM like this one is to keep your hearing. 5.56's tend to be very loud and shooting them indoors will likely result in permanent hearing damage without hearing protection.

@dr.doofenshmirtz9501 Just me shooting an AR carbine under a tin roof overhang at my outdoor range with just foam plugs in ears in resulted in 3 days of hearing loss. I use muffs now but I can't even imagine discharging an AR in the house without hearing protection. I bought my 18 yr old son an AR pistol upper for Christmas this year and figured it could be a fun range toy for him but also double for home defense in a pinch. It has a flash can that supposedly sends the blast further downrange. I haven't shot a 9mm ar pistol yet but assume it would be leaps and bounds less detrimental to one's hearing indoors.
So I'm one who actually does consider the sonic blast in the house factor, ha ha. As well as over-penetration into the neighbors' houses.

What I personally would really like to see is several different popular defense rounds in 9mm and how the performance varies between a sub compact pistol, full size pistol, and carbine. Speer Gold Dot, Federal HST, Liberty Civil Defense, Winchester PDX, and others. Do they work as desired in sub compacts, if so does the increase in velocity of a carbine cause them to expand to much? How much velocity is lost out of the smaller guns and do those rounds still expand at the slower velocity? Things like this that will help us choose an ammo based on the barrel length of the firearm we plan on defending ourselves with.

9mm is 9mm in diameter of the projectile, and 19mm is how long the casing is. So 9mm is 9x19, while .380 is 9x17 so the casing is a lot smaller, meaning less power.

    • @62LSXNova

I don't see a lot of negatives to the MPX other than cost and as of right now no aftermarket triggers that I am aware of(some coming out soon). But the quality of a SIG it should be expected. The after market is decent for the MPX and the controls are the same as an AR which is a huge plus IMO. Also there are a few different models available and I have seen a few shops putting out some nice K models to really make it short like the old MP5K. Just a disclaimer that this is all my opinion.

Even if it's 1x you still might have issues with eye-relief. For HD I would definitely go with a red-dot. Irons aren't that optimal in a dark enviroment, even night sights have a longer acquisition time than a red-dot and in CQC reaction-time is one of the essentials.

He's done more important things in one week than your dead ass has done in its entire existence. Climate change doesn't give a fuck if you "believe" or not, snowflake.
But by all means, keep whining about climate change, liberals, Starbucks, the "fake news media" and whatever bullshit conservatives get their panties in a twist over these days. You can get a CZ Scorpion for half the price. Though the Scorpion has an 8" barrel. I think it's better, due to, todays 9mm rounds are maximized to perform at its best from a 4" to 8" barrel. When you're shooting at 100 yards or less in a personal defensive manner or in a home...the extra velocity isn't necessary. Though barrel length determines velocity, a longer barrel can impede velocity too, if the barrel is to long.

Jester7 my sub2000 including a cheap red laser for low light comes in under $500. For home defense I have my choice, depending on where I am: highpoint jhp, hipoint 4595, sub2000, or ar pistol in .300 blackout. All are apartment friendly to an extent, I won't be shooting through 5-6 apartments like my .308 would. All are budget arms, though if the sub2000 got taken in for evidence it might take another 2 years to find one. The hog was under $200, the 4595 under $300, the sub2000 and ar under $500 each. So 4 guns for what that carbine in the video totals.
