This was my first Tool song. My friend worked at Record Bar, and Tool was going around and promoting Undertow and he got a copy of this "cassette" from Maynard himself. The second I heard this I fell in love. That was in January of 93 and I've been a die hard Tool fan since and this is STILL my favorite song...

I know it's a character flaw, and I really try not to be so judgmental, but by default I see attention seeking.

I been a die hard tool fan since schism came out in 2001, I was 11 years old. Tool is by far the best band to ever do it. Unorthodox and original
Every since I discovered Tool, I tend to compare everything else to them. And of course nothing else quite measures up. These guys have been at it for thirty years now and they're still in a league by themselves. They're so on-point with this track that it causes me to forget that this is their early stuff.
Tool is a genre all it's own. The musicians are all phenomenally talented and Maynard is one of (if not THE) greatest lyricist ever.
Hell yeah. first time I heard Sober from some guy I worked with I was hooked. Nothing will ever be created like this or any band and nothing comes close to how perfect they are.
I feel the same. Other music is still obviously good and there's so much out there, but I always come back to Tool. We kinda spoil ourselves with this band and comparing to other music, just isn't fair lol.
Can't agree more. I can't ever find similar artist to Tool, though some B-side songs from random artists sporadically comes up here and there that I feel like 'hmm this is close enough' and even that is hard to find. If anyone have a list of artists or songs similar to Tool please share with us!

One of the best of all time. This song is synced together so well with every instrument including Maynards vocals. Amazing album at that. There is no music like this and probably never will be. It's a great time to be here on this earth having the opportunity to hear these vibrations.

For me, it is about understanding the "I", which is intrinsically blocked within the individual through the ego. Getting rid of yourself is nothing more than letting go of that ego and finding your inner calm, which we can say is the only peace that exists, a treasure, so to speak, hidden at the bottom, like a castle. Where no one has ever been, we have never had contact with our true selves, because everything distracts us from ourselves. (Bearing in mind that 4 degrees can be associated with the fourth dimension, something we are not yet aware of because of our limitations, just as we are not aware of our true selves.)
"Let's go digging". (it means to search inside)
"Bring it out and take it back in" (overlap the ego and transcend).
Traveled? maybe, i know. But that's how I like to interpret TOOL's songs.
What's great about Tool songs is that they can make so many things have such a deeper meaning. Like in the case of this song, this is about anal sex
