Uprooting our life wasn't easy, but I absolutely would do it again because my grandpa was an outstanding husband, father, and grandfather. My fathers cancer had an incredibly low survival rate, but I never once even considered the thought of abandoning him. I spent however much time I could, visiting him… though I wish I did more to increase that time. He tried getting approved for doctor assisted d**th, and wondered if it’s something I’d be willing to deal with, and of course I said I’d be there with him when it happened. But sadly, he wasn’t approved, and he had to endure many months slowly suffering till the bitter end. I was beside him when he finally passed. I love you dad… I love you so so much. I think about you every day.

Wow, just wow, this daughter is a waste of oxygen, i was raised by my grandparents as my mum abandoned me and my bio dad when i was 6 months old, when i was 17 my gramps got cancer (behind hos nase and wasnt diagnosed in time so it spread), i looked after him giving up college and then my job to look after him full time, yes in the last few weeks we had nurses come in (i was also a carer for my wheelchair bound nan) i wouldnt swap that time wiyh my gramps for all the money in the world even the weekend where he reacted to some meds and i only got a couple of hours sleep in 4 days, it was all worth it and even when he passed away and it was just me and my nan with him when he took his last breath, i wouldnt swap it at all. You dont look after loved ones for money you do it cos you love them and you want the best for them.
I hope anyone suffering from cancer has loved ones supporting them and they all recover from this nasty disease 💖🤞💖

    • @wolfoftheages
      @wolfoftheages Před 5 dny +1

That's what I was wondering. When the dad got sick, did the daughter reconnect with the mom who made her act this way? The dad did say that the divorce was fairly amicable and that the ex-wife is still married to the other guy. It doesn't sound like the mom would have any ill will towards the dad, but who knows? Maybe the daughter met another guy like the first guy she married and then divorced, who told her that since/if her dad died, they should/would have all the money.
Honestly, it seems like the daughter was traumatized by her mom leaving and never worked to get over that, leading her to be entitled and honestly, a little dumb. If she thought her dad died 2 years ago, why didn't she look into his estate back then? In a lot of states, after 2 years, the estate would've been settled and closed, and no more claims against the estate could have been made. Waiting so long would just make it worse for her if the cops really were called.
I do feel bad for the daughter a bit because of how traumatized she is after the mom left. It seems like, in the daughter's mind, her dad getting sicker meant that he WAS going to pass and leave her too. There was no "he might get better option" because there had never been a "mom might come back" option before. So, she ran because she didn't want to face that "fact" and instead wanted it to happen when she was away. She might also have blamed herself when he still got sicker despite her help (because she didn't realize how rough cancer treatments really are) and instead of getting counseling to deal with those feelings, she lashed out at everyone else. If he was seemingly getting sicker still and her care wasn't helping like she imagined, she also might have thought that him passing would then be her fault, and she didn't want to face that either. Him surviving and being cancer-free might have snapped her out of it, and she could be feeling genuine regret. She could also just be cold and selfish and want to manipulate the situation back in her favor. Who knows? The dad was definitely not in the wrong here, though. I hope the daughter gets the help that she needs and maybe has the chance to reconnect before it's too late.

I won't judge her because I had been burnout for taking care of my mom so many times throughout those years (caregiver burnout syndrome), but everytime it happened after a few days it would give me a flash back when she would take care of me every time I got sick so I can't give her up yet or I would regret it forever. Everything I wrote down he can’t do. We help him from putting him on the toilet, putting him to bed, and drive him around after spending the whole day to plan the drive since it could kill him. OP was still able to function on some days, had a nurse who did most of the work, and all the daughter had to do was provide emotional support and help a little.

Story 1: Okay.... So, obvious OP's NTA, but I have a bit more of a nuanced take:
From age 17-22, I feel is a weird time to *expect* a son/daughter/offspring to become a caretaker for a parent. 17 is legally a minor (USA), and 18-21 is only technically an adult; they are not established enough as fresh adults to reliably care for themselves (completely independently: house, car, income, development, etc.), let alone support a whole other adult. That part alone was too much to ask.
Enter the nurse. The nurse needs space and a certain level of authority to do their job effectively. I don't care HOW that daughter felt about it: she had NO RIGHT to interfere with her father's care in any capacity, including harassing the attending nurse over the daughter's unprocessed trauma. That daughter was lucky she wasn't dragged over the coals for impeding treatment the way she did. That alone was grounds enough for her to be kicked out the house.
Everything else: L daughter, W dad. That girl had plenty of time to improve herself, turn things around, APOLOGIZE for projecting her traumas on both her father and his nurse, but NOO. She plotted to take advantage of an allegedly dead man, and cried "family" when nothing went her way. Let her rot in the festering field she sowed for herself.

Man this hits hard because my name is Hannah. I had a not so good relationship with my dad.
Me and him didn't have a whole lot of contact because he kicked my mom out when I was a preteen I went with her because I couldn't be away from her, after that I kind of lost my relationship with him. I did eventually end up living but even then Instead of spending his money wisely you would waste all of his money, he didn't truly care about his health until he started getting sick to the point he was dying, by that time he had lost both of his legs which means him miserable he was always an active person.
As a preteen and as a teenager that caused me to be really hurtful to him I never went this far though. I took care of him when he got sick, I was there every time the nurse visited the house to see him, I was there the day he died I stood by him I was the only person that saw his last breath even in a room full of people. I miss him, I see his face every day and I'm haunted by it. Every memory I have of me being horrible to him haunts me because at the end of the day he was my dad he wasn't perfect but he always tried; this is sounds like ops daughter never did feel that guilt, that regret, the sorrow of missing him.

My father has always been the picture of strength, vitality, and patient, unending endurance, like the ox in front of an old covered wagon or an enormous glacier that slowly grinds mountains to dust.
I can not imagine him sick, bedridden, or even tired, but even glaciers melt. When my father eventually gets too old and starts to die, I will be be there to ensure his dignity and see to his comfort as best I can.
It will not be pleasant, but I will clench my jaw, roll up my sleeves, square up against it and just fucking take it. I may not be as strong as my father, but I am a strong man, and that is only because I have an ideal role model and have a nearly perfect example to follow.

I dunno. It's understandable that his condition is sure to put a lot of stress on your family members. But the way she's blowing up, I can't help but think she's been putting on an act this whole time. That she's always felt like this. OP did nothing wrong, he's defending himself against horrible accusations while SHE'S the one blowing things out of proportion. Blowing his money on his nurse for certain proclivities? What Money? He has to use his money on his treatment in which keeps him in bed for DAYS at a time, he also has to use that money on providing for her. Does she seriously think he has money and energy to spare for that sh*t? She's only mad that she can't have her 'allowance'. I'd just say "Bye Felicia". ungrateful brats can show themselves out for all I care.

I’m so sorry OP ended with a sorry excuse for a daughter. He did the right thing & it was a long time coming. I probably would have said some really ugly hurtful things that once said can’t be unsaid that would destroy her and never look back or feel regret because I am very petty. OP is a good person.

Ik this cause my dad had stage 3 colon cancer and did everything himself and still went to the hospital to check his patients. Only time he needed help was right after his surgery
