I've missed these uploads.
There's an almost ASMR type thrill to listening to Saul's dialogue.
Glad you're well.
Thank you.
A true craftsman and the wife is just adorable 🥰
Ah, Thank you.
What a completely and well done tutorial under 10 minutes!! This is VERY well done. I wish I found your channel last year
Wow, thank you!
I've upgraded all my bikes from 10 to 11 speed road Shimano. I kept the old 10 speed hub rear wheel but opted to use the Shimano HG800-11 or HG700-11 cassettes. These are 11-34T 11 speed wide range cassettes but with 10 speed hub width. These cassettes are considered to be Shimano 11 speed MTB cassettes which have the same width road 10 speed width hubs. This will mean you can only use the newer R7000 or R8000 GS rear derailleurs which can accommodate these cassettes. Slightly more expensive but it adds more versatility to the bike since you get a wider gear ratio.
Great advice. Thank you.
Great job Saul..Glad to see you and Bev are well..Your videos are well done. Happy riding!!
Thanks 👍
1. Can you be my grandfather? You are so knowledgeable
2. You are killing it in your returement phase. Dont ever slow down!!
Thank you. I'm glad you found it informative.
thank you S and B.
You're welcome Ismael.
Nice job Saul. 🙋♂️ have a good ride with Beverly. P.s. Are you going to roller ski again this year ?
Thanks Joe. I hope to rollerski when the temperature cools down.
I also upgraded my old bike from 10 to 11 speed and now it’s much smoother and faster.
Glad it worked for you.
I have a ridley Noah 2012 mod. With 10 cassett. Shimano ultegra. I want 11 on this one. I hope i will be easy as in The video😊
So keeping the 10 speed crankset? Presumably changing to 11 speed chain? I would have thought that the 10 speed front mech would still have worked but then maybe as well changing for the new look. I run a 9 speed crankset on my 10 speed TT bike without any issues. I’ve also used 11 speed cranksets on 10 speed systems and again ran fine. I wasn’t so sure if the reverse was doable. Some of the compatibility issues that Shimano suggest just aren’t the case, you can mix more than they say, but then I guess they want you to fully update the bike with the latest components!
The crankset compatibility is mostly dependent on the number of chain rings. It has little to do with the rear derailleur and the number of gears on the cassette. I changed the front derailleur so the levers would match. You are right there is a greater range of what works than what is compatible.
just replace the 10 speed with an 11 speed cassette? my local bike shop said I need to replace the entire groupset.
The spacing of the gears in a ten speed cassette does not align with an 11 speed cassette. So minimally you will need an, 11 speed cassette, 11 speed, chain, rear derailleur, and right shifter. You might also need a new rear wheel if your freehub won't accommodate your 11 speed cassette.
I have a 10 speed bike . Upgrading to 11 speed would be better choice. ? I’m also thinking about upgrading from 11-32 to 11-34 cassette .
Sounds good. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
So you had no compatibility issues using the 10 speed brakes and 10 speed crank then? I'm doing a similar job next week (actually a 6700 to R7000) and was hoping it would work.
Let us know how it works for you.
@@velotiqueBetterWatchSaul it works flawlessly. Apparently not all cranks work but the Shimano 10 and 11 speed ones have similar spacing between the big and small ring (1mm I think) that it makes little difference.
Hi Saul, just broke my 10-speed Dura-Ace shift lever internally and it seems to now be out of stock everywhere. I have Dura-Ace 11 speed carbon wheels which currently use a spacer to fit a 10-speed cassette. Can I order an 11-speed shift lever, an 11-speed chain and an 11-speed cassette instead without changing my front chain rings or rear derailleur (which currently includes my power meter)? Will that combination still shift OK? I noticed that you kept the original 10-speed chain rings in this video. (I don't want to lose my power meter). Thank you!
It should work fine.
@@velotiqueBetterWatchSaul thank you! Doing the upgrade myself this weekend. I bought an 11sp chain and it fits the chainrings perfectly - internal dimensions appear identical.
Happy riding.
i added up the cost of doing this proposed upgrade . it tallied up to about 1200$ canadian. a new chain would have made me happy if it solved the shifting problem ........
Can 105 R7000 upgrade to Dura ace R9100?
You will just need to buy the appropriate parts.
