I’m just learning to use mine , thanks for your help. I’m so excited to have it. I’m slowly recovering my tools. We had a fire and it takes time. Bead shop , Kate and everyone in our bead group on FB sent me beads and it was such a blessing. I will be forever greatful 🙋‍♀️💜

Hi M, It would be great to hear what a Micromotor is BETTER for. Why would I choose one over the other? Thank you. Also, I have another tool question for you: Why (if you know) is the Badeco Hammer hand-piece 3 times the price of the Foredom? What's the difference? Is it just because it's Swiss made? And how would that make it better? Or, perhaps it's just a name thing... Thank you so much.

If I may, let me take a shot at this. A micromotor is more advantageous than a flexshaft if one uses high-speed attachments in a lower torque application. OTOH, if one's attachments work better at low speed and/or necessitate more torque, a flexshaft is the better option. In my world, I'm not a jeweler and use the machine as a die grinder of sorts, my scotchbrite wheels, wire brushes and the like would fly apart at high speed. Too, I polish steel with 50mm felt buffs that aren't easy to spin, nor does the material respond well to a light touch. A high torque application. Here again a flexshaft is the better option. If, say, I was working with a non-ferrous metal and wanted to finish the project with some red rouge on a soft buff, a micromotor would be more optimal. A low torque application. Definitely easier to work with.

Micromotors can go faster and often they are better for a more delicate touch. The cord is more flexible than the motor's flexible shaft. A flex shaft is better for larger scale more aggressive work, that a micromotor probably would not be good for. It is also a matter of personal preference.
