- OPEN TO FIND RESOURCES AND LINKS! Rotary tools! Pendant motors! Whoch one to choose?? Many of you asked me this question, so today I will try to help you make your decision. I will talk about two flex shaft pendant motors that I had a chance to use and I will share my opinion about each one. Dremel is a budget option and Foredom is more advanced one, that require a bit of investment. They are both great, and offer different perks. Watch the video to find out the details and my opinion!

Your are so calming to listening to. I love all Your videos. Thank you for your time and sharing all your knowledge.
You are so welcome, thank you so much for watching dear! ❤️
Your videos are always so informative and I just love them no matter what the topic is!! Thank you for always bringing us a but of stardust it always comes when we need it most 😁💗 🌟
Just discovered, but i love your video sooo much!! So helpful and clear..thank you so much for sharing your experience and your job! You're so kind ❤️
I decided to save up for the foredom right away.. Your previous videos highly influenced my decision on that! I have now had my foredom for a couple weeks and I absolutely love it.. huge time saver going from doing it all by hand! 🤯
Awesome video thank you!!
That's wonderful Amy! I'm really happy for you. It's an investment indeed, but so worth every penny! 😍
This was a VERY helpful video for me! Thank you so much for absolutely everything you covered here. 💕
awesome, thanks so much! Very happy to hear that :)
Hi!! Great video! Thanks a lot!
Just wanted to say, for anyone who is interested, that there are foot pedals that can be connected to any rotary tool. Personally, I have the very same Dremel with the flex shaft, and I just bought a pedal and connected them. The foot control was really a game changer :)
Really? Where can i find a pedal for my Dremel 3000??
Can I use a hammer hand piece with any rotary tool?
@@intothewoodsworkshop1517 Right now I'm shopping for my pendant motor on both Rio Grande and Eslinger. I saw pedals on both sites.
Hello @@intothewoodsworkshop1517 , something like a Proxxon FS 28700.
@@natishamosier921Make sure you NEVER go in reverse (SR) with a hammer hand-piece. 🌺
I too am on a very tight budget but was able to find a used Fordham at an auction at a gem show. I made sure it worked and won the bid war! That was maybe 12 years ago and it’s been wonderful! Couldn’t work without it!
that's great! Yes, there's always a way to buy used tool that works for cheaper and give it a second life! They're as good as new and do the job! Thank you for watching 😍🙏
So helpful - Thank you xx
I could listen to you talk all day! Also I love Foredom! After 4 Dremel tools, I started looking for a better option and I am so glad I chose Foredom. I wish I would have bought it from the beginning!
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does anybody know a trick to log back into an instagram account?
I somehow forgot the account password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.

The question I have that I haven’t been able to find an answer to yet between CZcams videos and online articles etc.. so the question is: if you invest in the flex shaft rotary tool do you also need to invest in all the hand files, and emery sticks etc? I realize this video is 3 years old by now so I hope you still get this comment. But if not and if anyone else in the comments sees my question, please answer 🙏🏼
Thank you Basia for all your videos. I’ve seen nearly all of them and greatly appreciate each and every one!
Many Thanks,
Andrea
I was just thinking about you! I was coming to watch a video because I needed some of the gemstone links in your bio and I saw this new video pop up! I would love to get a foredom but hopefully in the future when I can spare the extra cash. The thought of cleaning, polishing and texturing etc all done mechanically sounds like a blessing haha great video as always xxx
I so related my next purchase! Thanks for help!
Thankyou very helpful have flex shaft and i get what your saying about having turn main switch. Im newbie as soon as more experienced with get Fordham.
What a humble woman greetings from Algeria I'm planning to get a foredom rs
Love your vids and jewelry. Your voice is so cute too, love that accent. The Foredom tool is worth the extra money, very versatile
Thanks for a good video. I went with a hybrid approach and purchased a Eurotools motor with a flex shaft that had the same head as your original from Foredom. The whole unit was $150 cdn. So far it has been great. The pedal is a little high so an upgrade there may be in the future. I’m not sure how the motor torque is compared to the Foredom. I haven’t had any problems with it stopping under working pressure. I also have the dremel 3000 set up as a dedicated jump ring saw. The issue with the dremel is that it can stall during the cutting process. This may equate to a short life for the dremel motor at which point I’ll buy another head for my flex shaft with a dedicated blade setup for jump ring cutting. Cheers!
I love that Green lamp.
Like you I bought a Dremel 4000 Set. It Comes with the shaft. Havent fully maximized its features yet but it’s an all around household DIY tool.
It is really helpful review! I really appreciate it. Btw, you are so pretty!
I like your channel .. Hope one day I'll make some silver Jewelry.
Having a drill motor with a foot control looks like a good idea .
I'm not a jeweler, but I use rotary tools. My daily driver is a Foredom TX and I also own several other pendant motors and handheld machines. My advice to someone starting out is to buy an inexpensive pendant motor and not a handheld tool. The difference in torque is not subtle and you'll find that your work goes quicker as a result. As a rough rule of thumb, the higher the (max) rotational speed the lower the torque of the tool. FWIW, every budget pendant motor that I have originally came with a poorly performing pedal. A Foredom pedal is a significant upgrade and it's affordable. Good luck.
You would love the Lucas Lowboy pedal.
@@flyingcheff I see we're on the same wavelength. I own a Lucas pedal. Love it! Very different feel than Foredom's metal pedal, but not difficult to get used to. It's wonderful to work with. Would SO recommend it.
@felixf5211 I love them, and the guy that owns the company is a hoot. He says when he's gone, it's all done. Lol. I suspect that someone will buy up his inventory and jack the price up. I've seen used ones on eBay for $150! I have 3 - just in case. I bought them when they were $55 each! Now they are$100. Happy to know you are enjoying yours. 😉
Great video,
Eres todo un encanto!!
Hiya Lady Stardust, another great video, thank you. I think you've said everything there is to say, I will be upgrading to Foredom soon, on the safety aspect only it makes total sense, killing the rotation with your foot control? Total sense. Changing speed with just your foot control? Total sense, again. Yes I want a bench polisher but for now the flex shaft works & the Foredom will only do it better. So my mind is already made up & I just need to save enough for the switch. Your video has helped remind me why I want to upgrade & the mane reasons are safety & convienence. Thank you again dear lady, take care & stay safe... Steve x...
You may want to opt for the metal pedal. It's a few bucks more, and offers noticeably more control especially when trying to maintain a given rotational speed. And it's nicer to use, doesn't slide around. An all-around upgrade. Foredom's plastic pedal is very good, but the metal one is better. I have both. Good luck.
Love your hair, and good for you for getting a free foredom 👍
The nicest jewller on You Tube ...🌟❤️🌟
I love your bead that you have on
Hi
Love ur video its really raw 🥰
Can you give me suggestions from where I can buy all kind of gold filled and sterling silver wire and can we use one soldering liquid for 14kt gold filled and sterling silver both?
Hi, thank you for this video! It is very helpful. I'm looking for a tool for adding text engravery to my pieces (pendants, bracelets). I'm only planning on using it for text engravery. The lines should be very tiny, but deep enough to last long. Would you recommend Foredom for this purpose? Thank you!
Great advice and neckless! But which model Fordom fo you recommend? Thanks
They make a drill press attachment for the dremel. It has a hanger built into it. I purchased a foot pedal separate and with the drill press setup its amazing sauce for work. Can you use a graving (not engraving) attachment on the dremel?
Hi! I was just wondering where you buy your metal sheets and wires and where you buy your bezel strips! :)
Good Video 👍🏻
Thanks!!
Ok thanks so much, after watching your video I decided to plunge and buy Foredom with Flexshaft and eventually will change it to the one you showed with ease of switching, the cost of the one with the easy switch flex shaft was way too high for my budget, so its fine.
Please do confirm, I think it is possible because we can open the shaft, however, i will ask, can I use all my Dremel bits/burs etc on Foredom?
Thank you so very much for your videos, they are very helpful, useful and brilliantly done because you make them seem so easy :)
Can you sand pendants for enamel with this? I need to toughen up the surface for stainless steel. Thanks I’m advance!!
I would like to know what model and brand for light stand and rotary tool complete set up you have in this video. Ready and set to buy. Thank you for your help. Also where did you buy? Price ranges that are fair for everything would be awesome as well.
What are the polishing/cleaning mops you used for the dremel ? Can you put a link from cooksons please?
The Dust dropping around is from a Star for sure with your knowledge. It does seem odd with all the impact that Dremel has had that they never considered the human mechanics when using it. I use to get RSI working with wool in the High Country here! Fine, delicate, Works of Art, should have the appropriate quality Design. Thanks for the information on a better alternative, and good on you for saying so.......
thank you so much for watching and your comment! 🙏 I think Dremel has come up with more advanced option and they have a regular pendant motor with flex shaft and foot control too. Costs just a bit less than Foredom, but I never tried it, so can't really say if it's any good. But good they're adding options 😀

Hello. Am not sure if that its ok to ask here. But am struggling to find out how to use dremel 3000 to file my resin pendants. I have the base kit that came with my dremel.
Hi Basia. Well my hand held rotary tool by Guild has died, again after barely any use same as the first one! It basically cut a hole in the top of a lid (making a mini saw bench to cut rough stone before tumbling - idea from a utube video - and uses the flex shaft - didn’t even get that far!). I was altering some bead storage boxes by removing the lip on Elizabeth ward bead boxes as it just gets in the way. Hubby had the idea of just using the flex tool to remove them. Perfect. Or so I thought! I have a socket with a length of wire and a foot switch on, you plug into the wall then you plug your tool into, gives me a on off for any tool! Anyway I got 3 little boxes done, the motor stopped, started again and got 1 done, speed was varying on its own, next one and dead! Again! So fed up with these tools. I’m now going to get a pendant flex shaft as I’ve now wasted over £60 on 2 useless tools whcih never got their moneys worth doing just basic tasks and barely any at that. The first one was hubby’s he got for refurbishing golf clubs did barely anything and died! So I’m not wanting more op money on another had held one, I’ve seen online and utube that some have had their pendant motors for years! I knew where to search, and went to your utube to take a look! I have a couple of questions. Maybe you can help
1) did you go for a 4mm or a 6mm flex shaft?
2) what chuck size did you go for?
3) have you been able to use the bits you had before with the pendant motor?
4) how easy is it to change the “handle” on the flex shaft? I plan to get 2, 1 with be quick change the other basic one I will wrap with space fill rubber tape to make it fit my vice for using with the “mini saw bench” but to then hold on the hand isn’t so easy! So I hope to be able to change them for the differing uses.
5) on my flex shaft I have a quick change keyless chuck, can you use them on your pendant flex tool or is the quick handle you have better?
6) you have the SR motor, that’s the one with forward and reverse, is there a benefit to having the reverse as well as the forwards motion.
Thank you in advance, I hope you can help.
Thanks ❤ love your videos they Are great to follow to learn or just watch your process and see a piece coming together.😊❤
What do you think I could use to drill holes on pearls? Is dremel okay to use?
Thank you for the video. I have found several Foredom SR with H30 handpiece on Amazon UK and Ebay. They look the same, same description, but some are £95 and others £135. Where did you buy yours and do you think Ebay is safe for this kind of tools? Thank you!
I got a prodigy flex shaft from Riogrande. And its been so fun working with it im inexperienced but it does eliminate alot of manual work.
I have been considering the Prodigy (would LOVE a Foredom but cost wise I cannot get it yet?) Would you recommend the Prodigy? Does it seem solid well built and comfortable?
@@JayDub_143 So far so good for me, if you get the kit which is about 360 will get you a head start on alot of tools just becareful because it has a bit of a punch
@@HabibahW Great thanks so much for the information!! Happy creating😁
I have this machine branded as a Foredom CC. Identical. Of course it's not a Foredom. Had a quick look at the handpiece pricing on RG. The H20-like Chinese handpiece they sell for $42 can be had from Aliexpress for less than $15. Same goes for other handpieces; much more affordable. The shaft on this machine is slightly smaller than Foredom's. The Chinese handpieces fit it perfectly, as they were made for it. BTW, you're not going to believe the pricing on 2.35mm accessories, abrasives, bristle discs, and other attachments!
Does it come with the hand piece?
You can use wire with switch and connect it with dremel to turn it on and off

Can attest to the hands being more imporant than any tool - I caused a repetitive stress injury when prepping for a show in 2014 and it took more than a full year to recover =(
Thank you for your useful information. :) May I ask if it's possible to use drills and other accessories for Dremel with quick release handpiece from Foredom?
Thank You.
I'm also wondering the same thing... whether foredom accessories will work with the dremel. Did you ever find the answer?
I had a major issue with new dremel so have a refund and have ordered a dordogne sr any advice using my fordom? I'm also going to purchase hammer attachment as I hurt my hand on dremel so this will be helpful for me at im older self taught jeweller
Hi! Where did you buy the motor hanger for your foredom??
Love your videos!!
The motor hanger can be had from any store that sells Foredom. FWIW, there's more than one model. If you're in the US, a Grobet hanger from Amazon (Foredom copy) is an excellent value. Good luck.
is fordom also good for woodworking or only for jewelry? I need something to carve wood
hiya flower how are you. great vlog again getting good at them, if you dident drink so much your hand would stop shaking haha i would like a proper Fordham but the price of them is wow, i would like the newer one with the much lower speed for stone setting but with the hammer hand piece and motor it is way over 400£ with the vat thats another killer, tried to save but with owning a house there are things that take priority over proper motors so i will have to stick with my knock of chines Fordham i bough6t for a100£ still get them on amazon, take care keep well keep safe.
I am starting out my silver smithing journey and I am buying my first round of supplies. I am wondering what exactly the rotary tools are replacing. Would getting a rotary tool mean that I no longer needed files, sanding sticks, and emery paper? Or would you still recommend having all of the above? Thank you so much for your help and comprehensible videos!
No, @Izzabella, you would still need to keep those tools as well!!!!
If you already have a deemed and then get a Foredom you can get a Dremel drill press and just have it mounted as a fixed drill.
May I ask what is the noise/volume difference between the two?
Would you be kind enough to post the name of the second quick change chuck you showed? The one that is currently mounted on your engine .. if you have an address where you can find it, it would be even more fantastic! :)
Hi! I just bought the flex shaft attachment for my dremmel... was wondering which drill bit can I use to punch a hole thru the metal? Is there a special one? The one that came in the pack doesnt go all the way thru the metal... maybe I'm not doing it hard enough?
Love your videos! I'm just starting out and excited that you are self taught.
Check out Basia’s video on hole punch pliers.
@@normstangl3499 I have a hole punching jig but it's not the same thing as a drill
Great collaboration, you deserve it Basia!
If you have a low budget you can use a foot pushbutton between the powercord of the rotary tool and the wall. Something like the Proxxon FS 28700.
Oh, Anastasia Karkatzinou was faster :)

Where did you get your green lamp? I have been looking for one like that for a while, I’ve bought two that were similar but just didn’t cut it.

Hi, this link which you have mentioned is not for quick release system, it is for fixed system. I made a mistake to purchase it, I need relase system, Please correct your link.
I bought a chinese copy of foredom pendant motor for 85$ and it's a very very good motor ! (In addition, they sent me spare parts for the motor). A french youtuber like you, who talk about making jewelry, have the same motor than mine, a chinese copy, since 4 years ! So don't be afraid, it's not a low-quality motor, the big different between foredom and chinese copy is the pay of the worker .... I don't encourage it but I didn't have the money for a real foredom motor.
what did you buy please?
All i wantes was to see the foredom and i didnr get to

@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing . . . and, of course, the line of work I am referring to is a musician (well what did YOU think I was referring to?)
And yes indeed it's true, I've spent thousands of hours, working my fingers to the bone, getting to grips with those huge pipe organs (you know the type I'm sure) and let me tell you, when you pull-out all the stops on those things, they can blow a grand crescendo, much like a fire-man's hose let go, and if you're not careful, it can go in your eyes, and that stings.
And to relax (maybe like you) I like to blow a little horn now and then.
What size saxophone do you prefer?
Please can the DREMEL 3000 make pearl holes bigger.
I think so, since it's a rotary tool and if you use proper attachments, you should be able to do that. But please, do a research, as I'm not completely sure and I think there may be more to this than that. Be safe while working with these tools and drilling
I mostly like your English
