    HOW TO REPLACE REVERSE OSMOSIS FILTERS
    Reverse Osmosis (RO) filters should be replaced every 6 to 9 months. The cost of the filters can be significant, but add to that the cost to hire some one to replace them for you, it can quickly add up to a significant expense.
    In this video, DIY on the House shows you how to change the RO filters on Watts Premier Filter Replacement, which is a quick release and quarter turn RO System. The replacement is a quick and easy process and should not intimidate you from trying this replacement yourself.
    1. Turn on RO Faucet until water runs clear
    2. If there is a valve on the tank, open the valve and let the water run until it becomes a trickle
    3.Shut off the RO faucet and allow the system to recharge for 2 to 3 hours
    4. After 2 - 3 hours, turn on the RO faucet and drain the system to flush out any contaminates

    Thanks for the vid. I have a quarter turn 4 stage canister RO system and I'm in the process of ordering new canisters, minus membrane. Question: What is the best way to sanitize the tank? Bleach into tank line? Bleach into sediment canister itself? Sanitize after or before new canister install? Thanks again.

      @DIYOnTheHouse  Před 4 lety

      I would suggest bleach into the tank line - that should take care of it. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks!

    Hi. I have a watts system like the one you are showing here, about 10 yrs old. Since I changed the cartridges last week, the system gurgles every time I dispense any amount of water, even just a little for a quick drink. Don't recall it doing that before the last cartridge change. What did I do?

    • @DIYOnTheHouse
      @DIYOnTheHouse  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi,
      Did you drain the system down all the way and let it refill?
      Also knock on the bottom of the storage tank, it should sound hollow. If it sounds solid like the top the bladder may be going bad.
      If all else fails call Watts, they are super helpful.

    I recently moved into a home that has the RO system. No instructions.
    Do I change all 4 cartridges at the same time and how often? One a year? Could I change just the red and yellow the first year then all 4 the second year to save money?

    • @DIYOnTheHouse
      @DIYOnTheHouse  Před 3 lety

      You can change the red, yellow every 6 months and the blue one once a year -- the green doesn't need to be changed, but every 4 or 5 years. Here is a set the we order for our plumbing customers amzn.to/2W1dEYm

    Once you’ve replaced the filters, do not turn the main water back on. Turn on your sink faucet and then the RO tank storage valve to let it empty. Then close both valves once sink faucet comes to a slow drip. Then open your main water valve.

    • @DIYOnTheHouse
      @DIYOnTheHouse  Před 4 měsíci +1

      You can drain the tank 1st, It doesn't matter. Once the filters are replaced, turn the water on and let the system purge out the air through the faucet and drain. Then let it refill and then re-drain.

    how bad is it if I did not turn the water off or close the tank valve before replacing my filters? I have a very similar setup to yours. Let the water run for a while after replacing them to drain the system, but after all that my drain on the RO side of the sounds like there is water running down it when the faucet is not turned on.

    • @DIYOnTheHouse
      @DIYOnTheHouse  Před 9 měsíci

      On this system you can change the filters with out turning off the water, but I always do in case something goes wrong. You will have water draining for 3-4 hours to recharge the tank.

    My faucet has an LED indicator that is flashing red. How do I reset that? Someone on Amazon said to remove the coin battery but I do not see how to do that.

    • @DIYOnTheHouse
      @DIYOnTheHouse  Před 6 měsíci

      If the light is on a slanted area on the front of the faucet base, you remove that piece. On the sides the is an edge, just pry up on that. I believe it's a 2032 battery.

    What's the purpose for the drain line to the faucet?

    • @DIYOnTheHouse
      @DIYOnTheHouse  Před 3 lety

      It is designed as a way to keep bad water from going back towards the system. There is an air gap up top that prevents it.

      @bobchan1666 Před 2 lety

      @@DIYOnTheHouse I have the same system and find the air gap faucet extremely troublesome. Given how small the air gap is, it got clogged up twice and flooded my countertop.
      I added a check valve and go straight to the drain
