- Project 365: Cathy Richardson posts a song a day, every day in 2017. 1/27/17 Piece of My Heart, this a Big Brother and the Holding Company song, which, of course, featured the incredible Janis Joplin on vocals. This is the 3rd song for my audition this week, and I had this recording on file from an audition for a different production with a Janis Joplin role. Lots of people ask me if I have any video from Love, Janis and I don't, but this is pretty much my Janis character, without the wig.

This is the best. Janis is not easy to duplicate because she had a very unique voice. She moves like her too. Love this.

When I took my mom to see Love, Janis, she told me afterwards that she had a chance to hear Janis once and your performance brought her back to the moment in time. She's since passed in 2014, and I hope she is with all the great musicians, listening, rocking and having a martini. I was glad to have given her that moment, and always love your performances. I learned abut Cathy Richardson from Jefferson Starship's CD "Jefferson's Tree of Liberty." Her cover of Phil Ochs' "I Ain't Marching Anymore" on that CD is just great. I met Sam Andrew years ago and he told me she toured with BBHC for a while. I saw Janis and BBHC many times. Cathy Richardson does her justice. Thanks!

She is awesome is this the most underated musician in America I feel as if she (Kathy)should be a (house hold name) I think currently this is probably as far as sound, stage prescene go that she is one of the very best to front any band out their.when it comes music, Kathy is truly a Sgt mjr ....... This women has guts to take on a song like this. Many have tried and failed, but Kathy has not failed. WOW!!
Just saw her last week with Jefferson starship. Again she had the guts to take on replacing Grace Slick, and where as there will never be another Grace Slick. She dose more then justice to any of the songs.
This is not a criticism , just an obersavation. How she can sing like she does with gum in her mouth just amazes me. I noticed it when she came on stage and somehow she went through the whole concert with it there. How she kept from spewing it on the stage I can't fathom, but she did.

Different parts of the song I would swear it was Janis. Other lines you can tell it was not janis, BUT it still sounded great. Also just listened to Someone to Love when she sang Grace's part. This lady can do an excellent cover of both Janis and Grace with adding a little of her own style.

Janis sang "and hunni I cry all the time'... you know she did. Not that I'm fault finding, Cathy, hell no, and I doubt I'm saying anything you don't already know. I'm sure there were many a morning when you'd be hoarse after a performance. You've already done more, and gotten more of Janis than is good for you. You see, her 'style' was self destructive, and to really get her you'd have to leap off that cliff too, and seriously - you are way too talented and really I don't want you to go there. Your jefferson starship thing was really first rate too, and I'm trying to find your band's stuff now. Any way good luck, and much love from way down here in the old south.

This performance is just plain good music. But one pick-- don't scream at the point where Janis did at around 3:14 on this tape. Singing is great, screaming not so good-- feels forced. But singing all the way through, just great stuff. Thanks!
She should stick to being Cathy Ritcharson, because nobody sings like Janis!
