Jeff and Dale were so in awe of each other and loved racing each other. Contrary to what some fans thought, despite being fierce competitors on track they were friends and even business partners off track. No they didn't hate each other. I was a rabid Gordon fan but I loved Dale too. It hurt Jeff a LOT when Dale died. He never was the same after that black #3 wasn't racing him. Us fans and NASCAR weren't either. The fun died that day for all of us😥💔 including Jeff. Can't believe it's been 23 years. We miss you Dale😥💔. I love you Jeff♥️

He talked about how the #3 and #24 had kind of an under the radar partnership, and their chiefs had a special channel they would use on the radio to game plan and share ideas. JR couldn't believe what he was hearing. Very Fascinating stuff.
I loved watching him race, if he was 5 laps down I would still watch him the whole race, but if he went out early I would go do something else. Nascar has never been the same for me since. HE WAS THE MAN!!!!
For me, NASCAR died the day Dale Earnhardt died. My family used to listen to the races on the radio and then watched them on TV. Cale Yarborough was my favorite driver. You heard all the names, you recognized all of the on-air personalities, you just knew all of it. I tried watching races after that fateful day. I couldn't. Even though I knew what had happened, I kept expecting that black number 3 to come out of nowhere, moving up through the field, and fighting for the checkered flag. Every race just felt like it didn't matter anymore. It wasn't the same. A switch had been flipped. I still see highlights from time to time on here, but the magic was gone. If this was the Polar Express I couldn't hear the bell anymore.
I remember watching the race that day . After seeing the accident and Kenny signing to the crew to hurry up, I sensed we lost Dale. I felt so sad not because we would not ever see Dale race ever again but because Jr and Dale were just beginning to have that Father and son relationship that Jr always wanted. LIKE Jr said I have to do this on my own now at that time. I know Dale would be so proud of his kids. I really wish he could have been here to see Jr grow to be a great man , Husband , father and see all of his grandkids. I wish he could have been here to walk Kelly and Taylor down the aisle but I am sure he was looking down on them from heaven above and was with them on their special day. I am so happy that Kerry got to meet his dad and Be able to have that father son bond with him before he passed.. You could just tell that Dale had great relationships with all of his dear friends and that Dale loved each and every one of them. As they did him. Yes, Dale was nascar and probably one of the best drivers their ever was, but to me just as a fan , it was about him growing as a person and be the best man he could be. You are missed Dale. By your family , friends and fans. Ps I will not call him Sr because he did not like that.
One of my favorite quotes after that race was by Ray Evernham. He was asked about Dale and the impact on the sport, and Evernham shared how angry he was. It was something like “I’m angry that whenever my cars show up at the track and when we win, we won’t have the satisfaction of beating one of the best. We don’t have to race against Dale each week and that makes me angry” or something along those lines.

We went to many races together thru those years and I stayed loyal to Gordon but I can tell you that there was no other Earnhardt and never will be. The guy could drive

I was glued to the TV watching the race,, it happened so fast, Marlin's bump and then, bam up into the wall. Watching his cars slide down the track and come to a stop, Kenny run up to Dale's car, just seeing how he reacted ripped my heart out. We were all on shock, after a while with no news on Dale's condition, I made a quick trip to the store. Driving back my daughter calls crying, she said Dale died, I started crying with her. Got home and my son and daughter were all in tears and we all hugged. Dale's passing just took away a big part of our love of Nascar away. Saw that race. I was floored when they said Dale Earnhardt had died. I was like WHAT!!! it wasn't even that bad of a wreck. Did he have a heart attack or what? I just couldn't believe it. I stopped watching Nascar after that. There was nobody I liked. He was my man.

When what you do comes so naturally to you, it looks so easy to everyone else until they have to do it, too. The Intimidator was my favorite driver, and it pains me to hear the nonchalance he paid to safety in a sport where the laws of physics are being pushed at all times and the human in the equation is the weakest link.
He was old school, came from an era where safety gear was primitive making motorsport overall was pretty lethal and when you expose yourself to a sincere risk of death over and over you become absolutely numb to it. That's kind of what Jeff Gordon was describing in the video above when saying the new guys had a different mindset to the older guys. Then you have to factor in the absolutely nasty wrecks he has had and walked away from, there was probably an element of feeling more equipment was unnecessary anyway.

Rarely is Jeff Gordon truthful , but this time, he's 100% correct. How many times did Dale Sr drive a sub-par race car and win with it anyway? One of many reasons why he was the greatest racecar driver in NASCAR history.
He was the only driver I ever watched that could get more out of a car than it had, I think sometimes I can, but I don't think so, I just like to think I am at times when on track, he was made out of better stuff.

The seat belt broke which goes over the top of the haans device to help secure it, and he wore an open face helmet. im not sure it would have made a difference at that speed then followed by the abrupt deceleration after the impact.

With the seat belt malfunctioning along with the sudden turn towards the wall at that speed combined with Schraeders car making that side contact his head snapped at such force that it was inevitable what the result would be. I've also always maintained that based on the reaction by DW after Mikey took the checkered flag, DW knew that something was seriously wrong. Based on his experiences with being in wrecks he immediately looks back at the wreck after and I knew that something tragic happened. Sad day and Nascar hasn't been the same since!!

Tim Richmond was not even in the same class as Dale, Tim Died from his extracurricular activities off track. Dale died doing what he loved. Aggressive driving doesn't make you a bully either
