  • Back to Back laps on the Santa Cruz ebikes.
    Taking out the Bullit and putting it up against the Heckler.
    Shout out to Santa Cruz for demoing out these bikes for the day, we had a blast riding them.
    Parker joined me and we had an awesome time comparing the two and getting him behind the camera.
    I still haven't purchased an ebike but every time I ride one I get just a little bit closer!
    Thanks for watching, if you have any questions please drop them below!

    Well Justin, as they say, "Like with anything, it takes time to get use to". Transitioning from analog to e-bike takes some getting use to, because the difference can be drastic and also dependent on what you previously rode analog to what you ride e-bike. Your riding style may (should?) be the biggest factor in the decision Obviously the weight is hurdle to deal with. The bikes feel sluggish, bulky and unyielding on first pedal. The weight plants these bikes. I love how well they rip through the chunk. My Enduro feels to light & twitchy now. If your a focused jumper, then it may not be for you, but I have seen some guys throw these beasts over some huge jumps. Number one question a person has to ask themselves is, "What do I want to get out of it?" For me it was simple, more! More distance, more elevation. I'm an aggressive "Trail/Enduro" rider and I want to go on longer, bigger adventure rides. My Norco Range VLY is a Beast at nearly 60-lbs, but with it's EP8 and 900wh battery plus a spare 900wh, I can achieve the rides I've always dreamed of. For me a 30 mile 5,000' ride is a nice start. But going 50+ at over 10,000' of climbing is my Nirvana. There's no way to come to a proper conclusion based on a few rides, time on bike will tell.

      I’d love to have the bike for a longer term demo but now this is the only way I can really throw a leg over and get some laps in 😂 you’ve been absolutely killing it on the Norco VLT with those mega rides! I think there’s definitely something to be said about the extra weight it really does feel good in some instances but the extra effort to get the bike off the ground is just a bit of a turn off for me because I’m a big jump guy 😂 I think I’d still prefer a big motor and at least 700Wh battery clocking in around the 50# range.

    Santa Cruz is having a killer sale right now. I just tried to order a heckler but they are sold out. That said.....Bullit it is. I ride an Ibis Ripmo with 170 front fork so the Bullit sounds like I'll like it. i wanted the larger battery and was going to order a heckler MX. Has anyone put a 29 rear tire on a Bullit or anyone move to carbon wheels on the bullit?

      It doesn’t seem there’s many of them out and about. I got this one on demo directly from the factory and it was still the older model. The new one isn’t much different geometry wise tho it even says it’ll be specced with the 630Wh battery.

    I am currently bailing my my S Works Levo 3 and choosing between one of these. Big question for me is whether anyone is testing the MX Heckler and running a burlier front fork for better comparison. You cannot possibly compare these two bikes without closing the suspension gap IMHO. LMK if anyone here has done that. If I get the Heckler MX, going to run a 38 up front and probably a coil in the back. Seems like Bullitt just won't be as nimble in twisty stuff and is more big hit oriented. Any comments anyone?

    • @justin_niemi
      @justin_niemi  Před 10 měsíci

      I’m interested to hear why you’re ditching the third generation Levo, that’s one of my favorite E bikes to date. I do think the heckler with the mullet could be a great choice considering the chainstay is 15 mm shorter. I could give the bike a more lively, pedigree. It looks as if it’s currently specced with 160 mil fork, and most of them have a Zeb which could keep you from having to replace the fork. In terms of the Bullit vs full 29 heckler I think the Bullit takes the cake. However, with a MX heckler, the bigger battery and some modifications they could go toe to toe.

      @@justin_niemi Happy to share. It's been a fun bike no question. But the motor burned out on me in like early year two which SUCKED as I was stranded way the F in the middle of nowhere w a 50lb+ bike (w my mods like push coil it's probably 55+). They replaced but I think those motors are SUSPECT as my wife's SL also flamed out w low-ish miles. They need longer warranties. That is issue one. Issue two? I just like the VPP suspension design better. Issue 3: low bb. Always bashing stuff on this bike at speed and annoys me. Thing handles like a Ferrari but it does not like bike hits, and sits a little too low for my tastes given how I ride this bike. It also doesn't love jumping. Gonna get a Heckler MX setup, put a 38 up front, maybe coil in the back and it'll still come in solidly under 50lbs which should make it a bit more flickable/popp-ish. Just my two cents. This Levo3 is a badass bike and I have really loved it but I'm sick of shit going wrong w it. One other thing to note. The guy who designed the charge port got it right in that it's simple and big and easy to plug. But the cable that covers the port is a pain in the ASS to deal with and the charge port door constantly breaks off. Very flimsy.

      I’ve had motor replaced in mine, but Big S is getting stricter so motor has to be Dead to fix. I took it in 3 times cuz it was low on power and would surge when it got hot and it was overheating. Shop said S won’t cover till it’s worse. Took 3-4 more miserable rides to finish it off.
      Now my battery to motor cable died and shop is trying to get S to send one. It’s got a loose connection in it and often says No Battery Check Connector. Shop says it works after unplugging and plugging multiple times so S wouldn’t cover. Now I can’t even ride bike as it stopped connecting.
      Feel like you have to fight S for every warranty!
      Got a couple small faint cracks. Big S denied, shop says S only replaces when crack is obvious and bigger. Just “stress cracks” 😂
      BB is super low as you suggested, I ended up setting my bike up w chip in High position and putting a longer fork on. Yes Low carved better but way to many pedal strikes.
      Lastly Specialized Suspension Ratios are always too high so as a 215 lbs rider it is not plush and either bottoms out with lower air or is harsch with more air.
      Bike handles great otherwise and motor is powerful when it’s working. Highly adjustable geo with flip chip and headset cups.

      I got a Heckler, changed the ZEB to Fox 38 170 and love it. IT's right for the bike. If you are fire road rider, keep the Zeb, but if you like the tech and chunk, then the 38 is just right. You will also need different brakes, and wider tires.

    • @justin_niemi
      @justin_niemi  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I was actually pleasantly surprised at just how good these codes were. RSCs are great power wise but they lead to fatigue on sustained DH. What brakes would you prefer they be specced with?

    • @TurboLevoSam
      @TurboLevoSam Před 8 měsíci

      @@justin_niemi I had the codes as RSC spec for my 2022 Turbo levo and your correct on DH sections they overheat and for me become spongy and do not give me any confidence. I swapped mine out for Hope Tech 4 V4 with the V4 220mm floating rotors and the performance is incredible, no fade, perfect modulation and very powerful for the whole DH section.
      A mistake alot of people make with Codes RSC'S included is they dont bed them in correctly in which case they are even worse.
