    Ctrl+D works better for making shape repeats than ctrl+C/ctrl+D. You can also drag the shapes around while holding ctrl+d and hit the space bar to place them.

    • @craftystax
      @craftystax  Před 2 lety +2

      Those are quite tricky. You can trace them in Inkscape (there's a "color" option in the trace bitmap feature) but there are some pitfalls. I think you have inspired me to do a video about that pesky color svg option.

  • @gotchagr

    • @craftystax
      @craftystax  Před 2 lety +2

      I just used Inkscape and made them an SVG file. The size doesn't seem to matter to Glyphter (I did not save all the letters the same size but Glyphter made them all fit inside the glyph box).

    This is a basic introduction to creating fonts, but there many other factors to consider and options to include, for example tracking, alternates, etc. I wouldn’t really call it a masterclass, but a brief insight into the process of creating a font. If you have no clue about the topic.

    • @craftystax
      @craftystax  Před 2 lety +7

      That's a good point - I was thinking more in terms of overall concepts and the mechanics of actually making a font. I do agree that there are a lot of nuances (I didn't want to make a 2 hour video that no one would watch).

    • @beaulindsly8256
      @beaulindsly8256 Před 2 lety +2

      @@craftystax I think it is a good introduction and that it gives someone a chance to “dip their toes in the water” that’s the ocean of front designing. I know people with not much more knowledge than you presented, who include fonts in their Etsy offerings. I’m sure that your video gives many people just what they are looking for and they don’t want to do anything complex.

    Thanks so much! I do have a question.. is it ok to put all the letters in one file, especially for svg or tiff files? Or is it better to have each letter in their own file?

    • @craftystax
      @craftystax  Před rokem

      You can certainly sell a bundle of individual letters (like each letter or number is their own SVG or PNG file) - that is helpful sometimes if someone wants to make a monogram design. Otherwise, you would create a TTF file (a font file) and then clicking the "A" would create whatever you put in your A glyph. Hope that helps!

    How do we make the fonts for the lowercase smaller than the upper case? I tried uploading and even if the SVG file is smaller sized than the that for the uppercase, the resulting font produced for the lowercase is as big as the upper case. Is there a way to fix this somehow? Thank you in advance for your answer

    • @craftystax
      @craftystax  Před rokem +1

      Yes that is a great question. In Glyphter, click on your individual letter and then click the edit button (it is a pencil icon in the the lower right). Then click the actual image on the left side, and then click the "negative" button (a minus sign). This will shrink whatever you selected a bit. So you can tappity tap that minus button and shrink down whatever the individual glyph is.

    Can the fonts be colored or just black and white

    • @craftystax
      @craftystax  Před 2 lety

      Generally you would want to create the fonts as black and then whatever program you are using (like MS Word, Power Point, etc. you could change the color of the font in that program).

      Hey there - when you are listing a file on Etsy, you have a choice to select a physical product or a digital product. Select the digital product option. Then you will be asked to upload a zip file (and that zip file should contain your font and any other applicable files). Hope that helps!

    Sir can we add color to the TTF font,?

    • @craftystax
      @craftystax  Před 2 lety

      Generally speaking, you don't need to - when you select a font (like in Word for example), you can change the color of the font to whatever color you would like. So you normally just make the font black and then whatever program you are using (Word, Power Point, Excel, etc.) you would just change the color then.
