River was such a huge talent at the time. He could have been one of the greats but his performance on Stand by me alone was stellar. Truly an old soul.
"My Own Private Idaho", "Running On Empty" and "The Mosquito Coast" - just incredible. It's interesting to think about if River would have ended up getting a lot of the roles Joaquin eventually did.
One of the best films ever made and one of my favourites for sure
You can thank John Frusciante for giving him that drink.
It would be crazy to have River and Joaquin acting today
Here because of River. Love the man always. Beauty and talent combined.
The narcissism in that club must’ve been unbearable. No wonder Kurt hated the “grunge” label by the end of his life. Hollywood was putting it’s dirty paws all over it.
it was just another hyped up dark room full of drunk people with really pretentious performers on occasion
Most famous people I've met are not really narcissists - but it can seem that way because they usually put up a "social shield" in public. They really just get tired of being gawked at and bugged for pictures and autographs. They usually love normal interactions with people who are not freaking out in front of them. A lot of them also have insecurities and that's another reason to put up a "shield" and act defensive. But if they call you to come fix their refrigerator or cabinets, and you treat them just like you treat all your customers - which means excellent, respectful, and professional - most of them are super nice. But I've never yet run into an Amber Heard. She seems more like a parasite to the rich and famous - not the real deal. Who knows, maybe the rumors are false & she's actually a nice person, but I doubt so many contractors, assistants, and others could be wrong. From what I've heard, she should be living in a trailer park - not a luxury high rise. But the ones I've met are not that way. They were super nice. But then again, I've only met a few. (Princess Diana, Paula Abdul, Count Basie, Woodie Herman, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, & a bunch of locally famous people)
You must be having a shitty life...
@@jackandblaze5956 did you bang Diana?
@@jackandblaze5956 ....."should be living in a trailer park" ????????
The smart phone has ruined scenes like that. No privacy , no subculture, no secrets.
Yeah but maybe if there were more cameras people would have evidence of who spiked Rivers drink too... allegedly. That's what they are supposed to be for "security" but instead it's just gossip and exploitation. Models and actors are not typically camera shy anyway they do it professionally.
The Elites still have secrets that they mock you with.
Mandatory phone lock ups on entry and phone booths instead I would actually be really into.. but you know someone would sneak in mini cams

@@cyounger5716 There has to be a dumb one. The achievement is that he came this far despite having such a fu-ked up childhood which is how he got into drugs. The drugs weren’t really affecting his life, reputation and appearance until he got with AH then the drugs became uncontrollable as she absolutely loved to do drugs as well I would say she loved drugs even more than Johnny considering she insisted on having drugs on her wedding.

I worked for Johnnys business manager in my 20’s. For some reason I was responsible for overseeing the opening, end of night till and other weird stuff. I remember Johnny wanting to open the bar to start making money, but Tom Petty wanted to keep it closed an extra night so he could take a night to rehearse. I remember being the only one in the room while the band rehearsed and being young and salty over he blowing a night of earnings for Johnny, I got up in the middle of a song and turned my back to the band and went back to work in the office. I also had to fire the 60 year old British music scout who was a super nice guy. Was propositioned there numerous times and chased Heroin users out of the bathroom more than once. Johnny sat behind a one way mirror next to the dance floor. Don’t remember him ever touching a drink or drugs, just cigarettes. The scene was way too weird for an accountant, so I quit after a month or so. Nothing but nice things to say about Johnny. He loved his mother very much.
Sp, he watched through a 2 way mirror? What? Why?

❤️🔥🙏
Wow that’s amazing. Just saw it a few weeks ago for the first time on a trip to LA. It was shut down and I believe they are soon tearing the building down to build something fancy. Really cool to see the structure none the less but obviously it had changed a lot since the Johnny Depp days. Did some corporate nightclub group buy it out in the final years? I read that Depp sold it not too long after River died so I am sure it has its own journey since then.
@@thru_and_thru well, sunset has been “sold out” especially in the last few years. Coupled with the fact that viper room was CONSTANTLY getting noise complaints from neighbors nearby but it’s been a long time coming when some legendary clubs were getting replaced, especially the house of blues. Why do I feel, like all of Hollywood wants people to just forget river Phoenix.
River who?
@@nataliezementbeisser1492 😂
I will never forget him OMG he is my angel ⭐
Sacrifice
Because he was a great, terrible loss for Hollywood. Current Leonardo DiCaprio (as in acting talent, not so much the persona though) or Keanu Reeves, is probably what River Phoenix would have become. He was an enigma actor with strong morals, and I think the industry blames itself, or the people within it, blame themselves for the whole Viper Room incident. It was a tragic loss that people want to forget about because it comes from a place of guilt for many.
Doesn't mean he should be forgotten though! River's legacy should be lived on forever, and I'm glad he passed it through to Joaquin, and still, when Joaquin remembers River, you can tell it comes from an area of pain and unforgivable loss for him.
Johnny Depp is very good looking. He’s more good looking in once upon a time in Mexico as a blinded guy.

River Phoenix your a legend gang. We miss you. 🖤💯💯🤝
The Viper Room was awesome! So much fun! They would have a lot of surprise guests. The had tumblers of cigarettes on the bar so you never had to bum a smoke.
Really? That’s cool 😎
I've been to this club in the 90ies several times, I even saw quiet Johnny once on the nearby parking lot, a small nod was exchanged. Through a mutual friend, I know that Johnny was privately a very nice, unpretentious person who will even give you a hand if needed. That is not typical Hollywood attitude. It was a regular LA club on a good spot. Nothing unusual was happening there that it didn't happen in other similar venues. Try Chateau Mаrmont or Dresden, more filth was happening there.

That's why they say that the Viper Room is like Texas Hold'em. It's where the River got Turned and Flopped into a Hole!
The Viper Room was like the Studio 54 of the 90s.
When I lived in LA in the late 90s I went to the Viper Room a bunch of times, saw some cool bands, it's LA so there's celebs everywhere, wasn't hard to get into and I'm a nobody.

The Viper room was just 200 drug addicts getting together.
Sad. That may have been funny. But now the world is the viper room. It's everywhere. On the streets, sold in stores, why do you people need to feel different? Why? All alcohol ever did to make me sick. Smoking stopped feeling good like a year later. Marijuana. Boring. I'm very glad I went to the hospital for opiates and withdrawal from anti depressants. This type of lifestyle isn't cool. It's hot. Especially, when your body can't have these things. So if you're reading this and you like those things and you can't have them anymore get ready for the consequences. And don't blame anyone or be a b**** about it when it happens cuz it will happen. Ton so hippies and baby boomers in the care centers saying. They were right. Work now play later or play now and pay later. I'm not innocent. But I was saved. Jesus . Laugh now. Go ahead. Laugh.
