You have a lot bro. In Ireland we don't have our own junk silver. We do have it, but it was way back when Ireland was a British colony so they all have the queen's heads and a crown on the back. I'll still collect it of course but boy do I wish we had our own. Great video here bro. I've recently started my own coin channel and I always subscribe to fellow coin collectors and stackers. Liked, subbed and 🔔
Thank you for that insight! I’m a total noob looking to make my first stack-buy over the holiday deals (with the lows). This formula will be extremely helpful!
Good refresher, I have been buying junk lately with the price so low, but it is always a good idea to calculate it so you know if it's a good deal. I usually buy Roosevelt dimes...last time I went in it was $12.40 face.
that's really good to know! thank you for that. my LCS is at $13.75/face dollar. a little high but still a lot cheaper than it was 4 or 5 years ago so I don't mind it. keep up the great work!
When calculating the premium for "junk" silver, it's very important to understand the "multiple" being used by the dealer. For instance- divide the "per face value price" by the spot price. If the multiple is equal to or less than .715 then you are getting an awesome deal. The higher the multiple the higher the premium. You can always get spot price by multiplying spot x .715. That will give you spot price for $1 face value. Go to apmex or any online dealer and practice the math. You'll get a feel for the multiples they are using and you will start to better get a handle on whether the deal is good or not. Multiples are constantly fluctuating depending on supply/demand factors in the market. I recently bought some very good junk for .720, which is only .005 over spot. A very small premium. Good luck. BTW- if the junk you're buying is very old/very worn then you're getting culls that have lost much of their silver content. FYI.
I like that you pointed this out Keith, I appreciate it man! Also - I've said in videos before that the "worn out factor" is why I prefer JFK halves and Rosie dimes to their "prettier predecessors"! In fact, I think there is a video maybe a month ago where I weighed them all out and found that my mercuries have lost almost 7% of their silver content! Holy moly right?
personally I prefer to divide by 1.4. There is one oz silver in $1.40 FV. This is a more accurate calculation. .715 is rounded...the actual value is .7142857....
I understand that you can use Frank 90% but what do we do with the 40% you have to go through it at least that later how do you get the price of the silver out of it junk silver premium do we buy it by the pound weight thanks a lot
hey silver future I wanted to say thanks for the shout out I've been busy like crazy lately working and had my daughter's 3rd b day so shits been hectic but I got a question how much do u pay for those 90% state quaters? I won a auction on eBay a roll of 50 for 19.85 there all 1 state but is that a good price? when I bought the 4 I have from my lcs I paid 13.50 for 4 and I thought that was a bit crazy but what did u pay for em? pls ink thanks
I paid normal junk prices for them NY, because they hold the same amount of silver as a pre-1965 quarter ( I think I got mine for about 13.50 for 4 quarters at the time I got them (Check those 50 and make sure they are silver my man, because thats an insane deal!) - Those quarters should contain almost 9 ounces of silver if they are legit!
Premium is set by the seller, that's why it varies between dealer, I find that you can do better buy the simple calculation that is spot times .715 or for every face dollar of 90 percent equals .715 ounces of silver or if you have deep pockets 1000 dollars equals 715 ounces and ss for the premium I some times get it for under melt if I buy in large quantities. The overlooked silver is the 40 percent Kennedy half dated between 1965 and 1969 you can get these relatively cheap compared to 90 % and dealers are happy to get rid of it. Hope this helps you in stacking.
MY LCD today charges CDN$18.60 for 1$ face, which is the equivalent of USD13.75. Not a bad price except for the fact that one Canadian dollar is just as hard for us to get as one US dollar is for you.
Thats not that bad I guess - the currency conversion kind of sucks though... I've heard Canada's dollar has been dropping pretty dramatically over the past few years - I hope you guys are doing alright up there
When I weighed a bunch of junk silver (half dollars and then dimes), I came out with a a weight of 0.79 toz per dollar. It looks like OP didn't apply the 90% silver content discount, as far as I can tell. Oh wait! I get it. The 0.71 factor OP used already accounts for the 90% silver content. My bad.
Last time I bought Junk, it was 11.2 times--needless to say I bought quite a bit. My own calculations come to $1.38 of 90% junk is equal to 1 troy once of .999 silver.
Every one tells me Con.Junk silver is the cheapest to buy. But I foe I sund that junk silver had higher premium then Bullion... Just last week I scored.. I got Constitutional silver for 2% above melt .. :) I got it at a Coin show.. Brother and sisters.. Go to a coin show, do your math.. and your get the best deal you have ever.. Bring lots of Cash.. and get all you can..
Ok so Ten dollars face would be 7.14 T. Oz dealer is asking for 117.71 for ten face so I multiply 7.14× spot and the difference is the premium? Math is not my strong suit.
It kinda sucks that Continental silver is more expensive per troy ounce than the US silver eagles .I guess we need a video on why to buy Continental over the Eagles, especially if the Eagles are cheaper, including premiums....Right now spot is $ 15.40. Where I buy my Eagles the premium is $2....Continental is more expensive no matter where I go, ebay, my local coin shop or other auctions. My ratio when purchasing for my stack is about 60/40 favoriting silver eagles. My main reason is it's pure silver and I found out the refineries, quite a few years ago, when silver jumped to $ 49.50 an ounce, didn't want the Continental silver. Reason being there was too much. 9999 silver coming in, they didn't want to spend time and money separating the metals on junk silver....that's all folks
As of 2.6.21.......at my LCS .......25.00 x $1 face.........They will continue to screw us as long as we continue to accept these premiums as "business as usual"

This video is EXACTLY what I wanted to learn. Thank you.
Thank you for that insight! I’m a total noob looking to make my first stack-buy over the holiday deals (with the lows). This formula will be extremely helpful!
Your one dollar face conversion formula was very helpful! Thanks
this info couldn't have come at a better time! Thanks.
I'm happy to hear it my friend! I appreciate you watching!
I'm still learning and I have a legit learning disabilit where math is concerned . I saved your video to refer to once I do understand. Thank you
Yea, me too. For me, the solution is to make up m own examples with a pen and paper and work it out.
Thank you for this video. You answered a question for me.
Currently, silver at $14.60...Sep 2018, seems to me a great price. Deals to be had, will be hunting LCS locations all weekend. Great vid, thanks.
SUPER helpful, thank you!
Very helpful and informative video. THX
I got it . thanks for the simplifying of the calculation.
Great tip silver fortune! Thanks 🙏

Thats amazing Steven Wells! I would be pretty happy at 12.40!
Well it's October 2021 and stores are selling 90% junk silver for around 20 to 23 times $1 face. Thanks for posting this video!
Excellent video...yes, it helped
Wow thank you for this!
Great video, I added it to watch later. So I can remember!
Heck yea MUDSWAT, thanks man!
Thank you this helps!
Good video! I get my Junk Silver for 11 1/2 x face from my LCS.
Got some off of craigslist $10 face. But they are Canadian dimes. Paid 10CAD for $1 .800 silver. Good deal?
How do you determine if weighing them is the better option? (For really worn coins).
that's really good to know! thank you for that. my LCS is at $13.75/face dollar. a little high but still a lot cheaper than it was 4 or 5 years ago so I don't mind it. keep up the great work!
You're welcome msagan75! 13.75 Isn't the worst price I've seen recently! Some places are in the 14.50 - 15.00 range right now, its bananas...
Are you still getting deals like that?

That was good info
is there a general conversion for 40% silver??
I understand that you can use Frank 90% but what do we do with the 40% you have to go through it at least that later how do you get the price of the silver out of it junk silver premium do we buy it by the pound weight thanks a lot
My local shop priced me some at 20x is that good or bad

Silver Future what's up with the cardboard and black pen? Your writing is to small for me. I'm an old guy and and can't see very well. 😎

@5:56. I’m glad to say that a year after this video was made, my “junk” is still in good shape. 😏
Thanks for sharing; now I wonder how many people will pull up a spreadsheet and go to town...
Thanks for watching Seraphim! Remember, always do the math!

dang, you stole this video right from my lips! lol great points and tips. I'm planning on doing a similar video.
feel free my man! The more people that can learn, the better! I'm sure you have viewers on your channel that will never watch my channel!
Silver Future also you said 90% nickels in the video and that bothered me lol. I think you meant half's
On 8/2/17 I picked up 33 walking liberty halves for $98. He charged me 12 X face or $6 per half. Great deal i thought.
That does sound like a great deal! Walkers at my shop end up costing a little more than average junk too - so extra score for you! thanks for sharing!
Okay this comment a year old with math silver talk. 6x33 is 198 not 98. Forgot the one maybe idk
Keep in mind the state/local taxes added to your total at the LCS.
Agstacker no tax on bullion/precious metals. #ohio
I am able to buy Constitutional silver at melt from my LCS
kevin jones Exactly, they’re making money on both ends!
Gone are the days
What's lcs?
Bought some on ebay. Did not know how to calculate.
When I weighed a bunch of junk silver (half dollars and then dimes), I came out with a a weight of 0.79 toz per dollar. Just picked up $9 face of half dollars at 11x face
I’ve been paying 10 times face I’m assuming this is a good deal ? after reading some of the comments here.
Do you still get deals like that? Where is this at?
Last time I bought Junk, it was 11.2 times--needless to say I bought quite a bit. My own calculations come to $1.38 of 90% junk is equal to 1 troy once of .999 silver.
If we collect anything for our kids or grandchildren its all a good investment!
Around $12.35
I pay $12.00 face good price, but it adds up quickly.
I’m paying $10 dollar face for junk. Don’t get ripped off, pay melt!
Every one tells me Con.Junk silver is the cheapest to buy. But I foe I sund that junk silver had higher premium then Bullion... Just last week I scored.. Lol....I paid $13.50 just today for 90% half dollars.....in Nov 2019 😁
I pay 5% premium on junk. basically that is the GST
5% seems pretty reasonable! When spot is low that 5% is even lower !
100$ FV is pretty good, I got about 15$, um dude there NEVER was 90% nickels, but I promised not to mention those coins again, lol
I never said 90% nickels did i? I thought I said 35%...!
Silver Future yup in the beginning you said halves, quarters, dimes and nickels, but whose noticing, your cool, lol
Im re-watching now to double check =P Total accident if I said that (I think later in the video I state that the nickels dont count!)
shit I did say nickels at 2:22 I meant halves... I'm a turd.
Silver Future ah, only anal checking asshats like me prob caught it, lol
Ok so Ten dollars face would be 7.14 T. Oz dealer is asking for 117.71 for ten face so I multiply 7.14× spot and the difference is the premium? Math is not my strong suit.
I have a lot i need get rid of them
message me
I don't follow because my dimes are$1.10 then Quarters are $2.50

Very interesting point, I wasn't stacking back then and have always wondered how the market perceived 90%. Thank you for this my friend
to high premium
SpotX.715=Price
As of 2.6.21.......at my LCS .......25.00 x $1 face.........They will continue to screw us as long as we continue to accept these premiums as "business as usual"
❣🐲😈
13x
Nice man, I think 13x is a pretty good price right now!
Sit on cash and buy when Silver drops below $14 an oz
leave calc price chart out longer
pause?
