      I've been an army for a few years now and I have never regretted the choice I made, and tysm for giving them a chance.. some people think that all of the army fanbase is toxic because of some other 9 or 10 fans inside the fandom. The more popular someone gets, the more variety of people start joining.. so don't really mind any hate from the anti's.. it's an amazing community but anyways, tysm for joining.

    I find it hysterical that you can break down Em with precision but sub-titles hold you back from diving deeper into BTS...especially when I know you will lose your mind when you go into their older stuff and more rap heavy tracks.....don't let perceptions keep you from being truly mind blown...especially their live performances.
    *They had the western world practically on lock before Dynamite....they just pulled the haters and doubters in, plus radio couldn't ignore them anymore....💜💜

    • @olimakiella
      @olimakiella Před 2 lety +2

      I live in the Caribbean and I listen to their songs on repeat since I discovered them in 2016. I've recently begun hearing them on the radio after 'he who must not be named' but the radio always cuts out Suga's parts and then just Kookie and Him singing the chorus. Same with Make It Right. They use all of Lauv, but only Hobi's part, and then it's just the English chorus. It's very disappointing.

  • @DJLilHubs

    The “ramen fuckin chopsticks or whatever” (I was dying laughing when you said that) is actually sign language for dance 💃🏻

  • @jcasa3646
    @jcasa3646 Před 3 lety +39

    that "ramen" thing is actually sign language for the word "dance". BTS has deaf fans (many of which have struggled significantly with isolation during the pandemic) that the guys are reaching out to with their choreo, and that means more than you'll know to the deaf community (i have deaf relatives who can attest to this). anyway, doing all English singles is, no doubt, a newer approach for BTS (they've done albums in Japanese, along with Korean), but their usual positive vibes and messaging clearly come through, as intended. Besides, if the western hemisphere can be accepting of artists singing with slightly British or Latin accents, then why not allow the same consideration to artists with slight Asian accents singing in English. the way i see it, if BTS are capable of taking leaps to learn a completely different language to accommodate their global fans for the purpose of spreading a positive message - and hell, i say that's pretty fcking awesome (but also says a lot about our arrogance for not even considering that perspective).
    BTS isn't top tier for nothing, and their discography is huge (much of their songs do incorporate some English in them; worth checking out with closed captions/Eng subs). the group is comprised of a 3 member rap line and 4 member vocal line (tho they mix it up from time to time, like w/ PTD) - all members have solo side projects.
    BTS is well known for their intense live performances. but for a start, maybe try reacting to BTS's live performance covering Coldplay's "Fix You" (all English), their Tiny Desk Concert (unplugged) and/or their songs like "Black Swan" or "ON" Kinetic Manifesto (both of which they performed live for the James Corden and Jimmy Fallon shows, respectively), to get a broader sense of their versatility. most recently, they performed "Butter" for the 2021 Billboard Awards, where they won all 4 of the categories they were deservedly nominated for and were nominated for. They were also nominated for a Grammy and have performed for the show several times.

    I think they are still trying to get comfortable in the language. They have a big part in the lyrics and production of their Korean songs. But so far all their English songs were written and produced by others, with the exception of some verses of butter. And I think that’s why most their English songs are feel good. And Probably it’s gonna be that way for a while. At least until the members are comfortable enough in the language. So, if you wanna experience true BTS material, you need to check out their Korean tracks. Translations do not take anything away from the experience. Try it at least before giving up :) Maybe you will love it or hate it. But at least give it a try.

    Er, Ernest. How many novels and poems and holy texts are translated to English? What about the adaptations, subtitles and dubbing of films? Anime??? Would you REALLY ignore a whole world of artistry and knowledge and magic just because you won't get EXACTLY the same experience as you would if you spoke the original language? Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!
    PLEASE watch BTS member Suga as his hip hop alter ego Agust D and his masterpiece 'Daechwita'. He's the shorter dude in brown, with the blue hair. Now try to imagine him as exactly the opposite personality and attitude, but in the same body ;) Suga started his career as a seriously talented underground rapper. He is now one of the most celebrated Producers in S. Korea. It WILL blow your freakin mind. You just gotta open it up a liiiittle bit more. I promise you that your brain won't fall out. ARMY is not the Borg Collective, lolol!!! The only thing you'll regret is how long you dug in your stubborn-ass heels!!! :) :) :)

    BTS already has 4 Billboard 200 #1 albums & sold out 2 nights of Wembley (180,000 seats) in minutes, before they released their first English song. So they were ALREADY big in the West BEFORE they did English songs. They are not trying to "break in". The plan is for domination.

    This song was written by Ed Sheeran. For me this song felt like a musical 😁 I would love to see your reactions to their other MVs for example ’Black Swan’ and ’Mic Drop Steve Aoki remix’ to see more of their versatility, their dancing and their lyricism.
    You also reacted to ’Life goes on’ by BTS and you had no problems to understand the message by reading the lyrics. Some people even feel their songs without reading the lyrics at all, so why not trying it out? The lyrics on their official MVs are accurate and enough to understand the message. If it is not, you can dive deeper by reading the translations on websites such as doolset, where the lyrics are broken down and explained. On top of that, everyone is confronted with many things in their lives that are translated from different languages to english: books, films, animes and so on and it seems to be enough for people to understand it. So it sounds like an excuse.

    BTS fan here, totally agree that I hope if they do another full English track, I hope it isn't another feel good/looking for radio spins. One of the things that pulled me into BTS is their deep lyrics and I just feel like the people that only know them for their feel good tracks think that is all they do. I want them to see the other side of BTS too

    • @SafeNF
      @SafeNF Před 3 lety

      I want ppl to see the other side of BTS too! But I don't think that will happen anytime soon for their next English track.. their deep lyrics comes from them writing those lyrics and since they only speak Korean, that's what they'll continue to be writing in.. for now... until they become fluent in English, I doubt they'll be writing the lyrics to their English songs. But I know they're doing their best to do so.. just like how RM wrote the rap for Butter. Slowly but surely.

    More deeper than bops? There’s a reason for that, they wished to release songs that would make people feel happier, during Covid. It worked. I’ve listened to their BE album, and the albums before that , love all of them. It really shouldn’t matter if they’re in Korean or not, it’s easy to look up the lyrics or the subtitles. Their MVs are second to none.
    Anyways, thanks for the reaction. 😊

  • @janetaskin2150
    @janetaskin2150 Před 2 lety +3

    Thanks for your BTS reactions! For sure their vocals were highly blended/produced on this track & their accents corrected, etc, The choreo was their simplest, incorporated international sign language & was no doubt tailored so folks could dance along. I think that many of their Korean/Japanese songs have accurate enough lyrics to take in the meaning & the raps are often crafted to work with a hybrid of Eng/Korean. Becaue they are not song writing in English, not sure that you will find the depth of lyrical meaning in their English songs as they were written by Ed Sheeran, Dave Stewart (of the Eurythmics, etcl,I, etc., Many of their songs have explanation videos by DKDK tv, such as Spring Day. If you ever want to hear them shine vocally - I recommend their Japanese song "Film Out' live - either the Music blood or CDTV version, Coldplay's 'Fix you,' Live on MTV, House of Cards live, Dimple & Pied Piper Live. A lot of 'Army' translate BTS songs & sometimes provide in depth explanations in the translations for non Korean Speakers., such as RM's 'Joke' MV w/English subs. Thanks again & take care.

They don't really rap in english because they're not confortable rapping or writing lyrics in full english (except RM), so they get like one line sung in the english songs

    i totally understand things getting lost in translation but there are some reputable translations out there, such as "doolsetbangtan" who has lyrics for everything they've put out and I would stay away from youtube lyric videos not from Big Hit, they're always wrong. a lot of their English songs are written by English speaking writers, though RM writes a lot too, and while they're fantastic, the depth of bts' lyricism is best seen with their korean tracks, like fake love or outro:tear. i highly recommend checking some of them out, even if it's off camera! and the MV translations are done by BigHit and they're usually pretty accurate. and at 2:22, that's Jimin rocking that fit!

They have also done 3 other versions, including a “short” on 2020-09-11; a beautiful drone visual of Seoul (The Four Seasons of Seoul” on 2019-12-30, & an amazing drone visual mv on 2021-01-09.
    My personal favorite "other version" video is "DANGER (Mo-Blue-Mix) , featuring THANH". Thanh is an Australian-Vietnamese singer. This song has a R&B vibe with some great lyrics added by Thanh.
    There are loads of their other songs including some of my favorites: “Dionysus”, “Ma City”, “Truth Untold”, ”Outro: Tear”, “House of Cards”, “Lost”, “Dimple”, “Butterfly”, etc. and their solo, rapline, vocal line, short films, comeback trailers, etc. not included.

      Sorry, I have not updated the list to include Permission To Dance.
      Also, some of their songs have more English such as Mic Drop, ON:Manifesto...., and Boy with Love (ft. Halsey).

    You had me at "This song is infectious". Hahaha... About the autotune, the recording engineers of BTS are genius. I mean they would put autotune when or where they think it's needed to enhance/make the song even better. Because honestly, if you hear these men sing live without autotune... Dude, BTS does not know autotune at all. Even the rappers can legit sing. And also, the choreography you were referring to is sign language. So, this is song is literally for everybody.

    the simple dance they are doing is a sign language for deaf people so they would feel included with other armys.

    That's okay that you don't like the auto-tune, but there is one thing about K Pop that you can count on, their is always a live stage when they have a comeback. So you can hear live vocals with no auto tune. I will link it if you want to check it out. There are more than one, so I will pick my favorite. This one actually just came out too. They just gave a speech at the UNGA in New York City and they did a live performance of of PTD. Here you go, a reaction would be nice.
    BTS Permission to Dance Live at the UNGA in NY - czcams.com/video/PvLH4A-C4Fw/video.html
    YES, they did a PTD dance challenge and this was meant for everyone to be able to do.

    They only have three English Tracks.

    Good observation with the auto tune. Believe I heard a bit in Butter as well. Am thinking it was deliberate as our boys do NOT need it and are the only band in the world who can do complex dance moves while singing in tune. They practice singing while running on a tread mill and their dance practices last anywhere from 12/16 hrs a day. So no...they do not NEED it. As this was written by Ed Sherran, it may have been his suggestion to fit the style of song. Nothing more. As an Army Mom of 54yrs old from the Caribbean who have been with them since 2016..please do not disparage our boys without knowing anything about them. They are the number one band in the world for a reason. And they achieved that goal long before they started producing English only songs. Thank you, Sir.

    100% Valid viewpoint but careful that "lost in translation" doesn't blind you again from experiencing something sooner. Also you'd be in for a wait. "Something harder" would require coming to a level of thinking in English for them not to translate from Korean anyway or censure themselves Music, art has no boundaries unless you make one. The translations for now have the West & especially Americans singing their lyrics in KOREAN. Why? B/c the translation was enough to evoke an emotion. & please like you don't have to play back or pop up subtitles for some of the speed rappers.... And they are rapping in bloody English. So what's the real difference in effort?

    Don't overlook BTS talent to entertain despite the language difference.. millions of us enjoy it despite not speaking Korean (or Japanese in some cases) because of their vocals, dance performances, meaning of lyrics (positivity, love, acceptance, self-love, and on and on). They also touch on multiple genres.... their body-of-work since immense since their debut in 2013.
