Some things sequenced, some things played live in real time. These are the ways of this kind of music (electro, kraut, ambient,,,,called what you like), it is pure nectar. Thanks Froese! soundtrack of so many beings! OM!
Farewell Edgar Froese. The inspired creative, fantastic electronic artistic wizard, who's works of audio landscaping have provided a personal soundtrack for many around the world through solo performances, or with members of Tangerine Dream. His contributions to music have inspired many as well as enthralled countless others who sought out these recordings after being introduced to this stand alone, unchallenged hypnotic genre, and who as well, have also attended performances around the world with great enthusiastic anticipation that lead to a great undeniable satisfaction. I have, like thousands of other countless appreciative fans, purchased these greatly sculpted recordings, all with Edgar's touch over the years since the 1970's, and hope to continue to do so along with the many countless dedicated fans past and present worldwide. Let the Dream continue. The Tangerine Dream.
I saw them every time they toured - in fact I had the privilege of watching them from backstage on a number of occassions - and it was then I realised that much of it is mimed - more than 70% truth be told. I watched a number of concerts during the same tour and noticed different keyboards being used a couple of places - yet the sound was exactly the same each concert! I still enjoyed the shows - especially the Dominion concert tour.
This is amazing. The Thing mixed with The Grudge. This is one of the best sounding synths from back in the day that I heard yet, and I heard alot of them.
You are so right! I thought the same, especially that spooky organic sound during the intro he's creating on that PPG Wave 2.2 reminded me so much of The Grudge. Man he was waaaay ahead of his time. So awesome!
Is there a high quality recording of this anywhere? He and the rest of TD will on forever.....in 100 years people will still be loving them and their music.
Would have loved to have had a go with that custom sequencer Edgar has here, I believe that Johannes Schmoelling had one too. Love those burping type sounds Edgar is making with his PPG synth. The guys was a genius 🤗
About 99 comments most from tech "experts" telling us how much is or isn't live!! About 86,000 just interested in the music. Even if it's 100% mimed at least we get some insight into the process of creating the piece.
Die haben uns damals alle verarscht...ich besitze 5 analoge Synthies aus dieser Zeit...schön, wie die da an den Knöpfen spielen, und die Teile spielen von alleine...irgendwie habe ich das nie hingekriegt....
Don't wanna sound like smart-ass, but the Oberheim polysynth is the OBX one, released in 1979. The OBXa was the next generation, in 1981. Thanks for the uploading - great track and video!
@AouretVolkenVisage I kind of thought as you did but was very surprised with "Purple Diluvial", that's a beautifully diverse piece of music. I realized they'd done nearly 30 albums in the intervening years that I never even knew about.
Hilarious. The "Predator" voice was someone tickling a tin-can party favor! Obligatory analogue prostletyzing (sp?): death of unpredictable instrumental performance. Yay, quantization! Wacked dream this AM about trying to get an Oddy VCA/VCF EG to 'boing' just right. Damn subconscious...
I begin to wonder just how many Wavecomputers this guy owned. I know he helped finance the development of the original PPG Wavecomputer and the PPG wave series of synthesizers.
@alexeykh thanks; in italy the word to say church is "chiesa" from latin "ecclèsia" from greek "ecclesìa": athenian people when decided something together! and communio in latin is the same of koinonia in greek, which was a cooperative; italian "compegno" used by communists comes from "we have the same bread", may be Holy Communion the words have their roots i read some russian theologian and i remember something about sobornost, you let me understand in a better way this word
it seems they like a highly polished digital sound nowdays more. they think it is more mature, more the sound of today. but to me, it's colder. and even for younger people who are into electronic music, it is colder...
Does any one know the brand name of the blue synthesizer on the bottom side is called the one with the growling voices at the beginning of the video. Totally awesome stuff
I saw the Optical Race tour. Stewart Copeland, the opener, made a dissing remark about playing recorded music. Edgar picked up the guitar and outdid anything Stewart Copeland was capable of....
My god, Limey is a TD fan. I have about twenty of their old albums on vinyl. Edgar is getting a bit long in tooth like poor old Harry was, but as with H, his greatness will hopefully open some doors for those who come afterwards. We have had a year without winter here in San diego. You ought to try it sometime. I have a full garden already to harvest and I usually don't even set the seeds in until this time of year. It is actually fucking hot here, like summer gets. And the rest of the country and probably your way too, are using icepicks to get their car doors open! Hope you and T are happy and prosperous as always...good to hear from you.
I see the OB-X and PPG synthesizers are featured in this video. This piece sounds similar to a track on Tangerine Dream's Exit album (Pilot's Of A PurpleTwilight or Remote Viewing). Cool to see Edgar performing in personal appearance. Big fan of TD since the early eighties. I love their 70's & 80's material the best. Tangerine Dream is a huge inspiration in my music compositions as well. RIP Edgar Froese!
Well, there's only so much one guy can actually play live, especially with this kind of music. I would prefer though that he played the lead sounds, more than controlling the sequences with the PPG. But sequencers were way more primitive and finicky in 1981 than today. Saw TD a few times in the 80's, FFS and FFH lineups - they played as much live as anyone possibly could with six hands and were impressive - maybe 20% sequenced, the rest live. Post 2000 TD, maybe 80-90% sequenced. :-(
What a loss.
R.I.P Edgar and thanks for the great music.
Yes. Thank you for your wonderful music, Edgar.
Rest in Peace.
Some things sequenced, some things played live in real time. These are the ways of this kind of music (electro, kraut, ambient,,,,called what you like), it is pure nectar. Thanks Froese! soundtrack of so many beings! OM!
It is a very unique style of music, and it has evolved over the years.

Edgar Froese is a true musical genius, and probably a genius regarding other aspects of life as well. Edgar and TD RULE!
Great Performance, Thanks Edgar Froese, unbelievable musician in Capital Letters RIP
Such amazing performance. I love every detail on it. Why isn't been released in the boxset now in 2020 is a mistery.
Great music from the master. Edgar is my favourite artist of all time. thanks for posting
RIP Edgar encore merci
R.I.P He started an evolution :(

Hell, he was so cool!
I love this segment: subjecting your neighbors to loud PPG synth playing.
No parallel. Fantastic and grateful. 🙏🏼
A genuine trailblazer.
Would have loved to have had a go with that custom sequencer Edgar has here, I believe that Johannes Schmoelling had one too. Love those burping type sounds Edgar is making with his PPG synth. The guys was a genius 🤗

comments valid just like yours
I like this so much better than TD current stuff!
Die haben uns damals alle verarscht...ich besitze 5 analoge Synthies aus dieser Zeit...schön, wie die da an den Knöpfen spielen, und die Teile spielen von alleine...irgendwie habe ich das nie hingekriegt....
Like the PPG demo room. Fantastic. His neighbors must have either loved it or been terrified at the weird mouth sounds in the intro.
I would have loved to have been his neighbour when he was doing this & maybe had a few lessons from the master himself!
Brilliant burping sounds from his PPG Wave.
Hat jetzt eine neue Anschrift. (RIP)
Haunting! So fucking incredible to listen to...
Don't wanna sound like smart-ass, but the Oberheim polysynth is the OBX one, released in 1979. The OBXa was the next generation, in 1981.
Thanks for the uploading - great track and video!
I wanted to be as much like my hero as I could in current times so I put my Oberheim OB-X8 above my 3rd Wave on the keyboard stand.
R.I.P. Edgar.
Super !
Very good Froese!
THANK YOU
esto es maravilloso!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
INCREDIBLE!!
@AouretVolkenVisage I kind of thought as you did but was very surprised with "Purple Diluvial", that's a beautifully diverse piece of music. I realized they'd done nearly 30 albums in the intervening years that I never even knew about.
RIP
out of all the versions on youtube, this VHS version sounds the best with it's inherent quality defects and slightly tinny sound, they just add to it!
Schade das Du nicht mehr da bist. :-(
Grandioso!!!!!!!
ادگار بزرگ تو همیشه الهام بخش من بودی. یادت همیشه جاوید.

well put!!!
Thanks for uploading this!
Wow, a "one-man" version of Remote Viewing from Exit. Fantastic!

R.I.P Mr. Froese.
Genius
Legend in his own right. RAH 4-1-2010. Be there for another history in the making.
Great music and video....even if a lot of it is pre-recorded (or all of it??) Thx for uploading!
@wtc175 I saw TD at Olympia (Paris) and it seems that many parts were mimed... I don't know.
Concert was nice, and even great at some moments.
RIP EDGAR.
Synthesizers have bit my, i love synthesizers !
Maestro
the master gives a lesson in how it should be done.
I begin to wonder just how many Wavecomputers this guy owned. I know he helped finance the development of the original PPG Wavecomputer and the PPG wave series of synthesizers.
Thanks for posting this. Edgar is a genius and pioneer, but it's a shame he's not playing more with his hands here.
MEANWHILE IN THE 80'S
@wtc175 -why don't you enlighten us with videos of you playing your kazoo?
@alexeykh thanks; in italy the word to say church is "chiesa" from latin "ecclèsia" from greek "ecclesìa": athenian people when decided something together! and communio in latin is the same of koinonia in greek, which was a cooperative; italian "compegno" used by communists comes from "we have the same bread", may be Holy Communion

Stereo output from the OBX!
there's rap as good as this, just, like anything, rare and hard to find...
it seems they like a highly polished digital sound nowdays more. they think it is more mature, more the sound of today. but to me, it's colder. and even for younger people who are into electronic music, it is colder...

That's a PPG Wave. Behringer is working on a clone of it.

No, it's the PPG 2(.0)
Does anyone has some info about this performance...... where, when, and why?
Not really a performance as such. More like a music video recording serving as eye candy to the track "Edinburgh Castle" for german TV
So what kind of computers are sitting on the rack next to the Wavecomputer?
two PPG 340/380 systems with their terminals.
