You kinda reminded me of a thought I had Grindcore and noise music are very looked alike, if we think about it. Of course, one brutal and energetic wave, the other more of an energy wave and brutality, if that makes sense. Kinda like ADD and ADHD. Jk
If i've already commented I apologise. This is one of the best live performances i've ever watched. I love how they set up in the middle of the crowd and the playing is just unreal. How can you not obsess over this band?
Saw these guys live one time... amazing. It doesn't look like it would be, but it IS. You feel like the cops are gonna kick the doors in and stop the show pretty much the WHOLE time. Orgiastic and rhythmic fury.
Love the intensity of the playing and the joy of the audience. I've been to so many soulless and polite performances its refreshing to see somebody who understands what it means to put on a good show.
Had the great pleasure of meeting Brian and Brian a few times at the All Tomorrows Parties festivals in the UK, you could not find two nicer guys, totally unasuming and, if it's the right word, humble. And their sets, all of them including the times when they had to abondon the 'stage' (in reality the floor, they prefer not to play on stage) due to severely blown amps and speakers (I wonder why, lol) remain the most memorable gigs of my life. Talk about energy...
I adore the way this video is editted. Im so used to watching lightning bolt on just a single angle. This is awesome. If only they were miked better and the bass was louder.
Somebody told Lightning Bolt that a hook is a catch melody played early in a song that can be called back to later to keep audience engagement, and this is what they came up with.
d'addario also makes non-wounds with bass ball-ends, so you can get an .018 gauge string for that top E. tuned gdae. the low string on his 5 string is a C. if you're playing a 4 string, use a normal A and D string for the G and D, a slightly smaller G string for the A and either a banjo or 18 nonwound for the high E. if 5 string, add a normal or slightly fatter E string on the bottom, it'll hold the C no problem.
What am I missing here? Are you saying if you were to go to a live show, you would want to hear EXACTLY what they recorded in a studio? Music is an expression of emotions and feelings. These guys put so much energy into a crowd it's quite literally electrifying. How many live shows have you played by the way? Was it easy to replicate your recorded tones EXACTLY???? And look, they are playing music and touring and couldn't care less about your insignificant (and misguided) comment.
Story time: (Alright, lets just put this on the table first, Im not too updated on what kids like now and days.) So today this "scene" girl in class was telling me about brokNCYDE (or however fuck its spelled.) and told me to check them out. I did. Fifteen seconds later, I started listening to this to take that horrid sound out of my head. Iv listened to this song about five times since then.
This isn't necessarily my favorite kind of music but i admire that drummer for being able to calmly play drums while those people are moshing 6 inches away.
Just saw them in Auckland, was fucking intense to say the least. If you ever see these guys make sure you are ready to fight a surge of people. I had to use all my strength to not be pushed into Brian's equalizer the whole concert. but fucking awesome set.
Yeah they have Europe dates up. If this band broke up it would be an extreme loss. These guys are fucking amazing. They had a free show in Chicago, went 4 hours early and still completely packed.
duuuuude! rad find!!! i don't like these guys and i think they're overrated, but that part is rad!!! i can't tell if he did it on purpose or got lucky and caught his stick after losing it. i lose sticks and catch them a lot but not that gracefully. hahaha. hella- "hold your horse" is so dope. check that out if you haven't already. if you like LB then i'm sure you've heard of hella. 'see 'ya.
THE CROWD REMINDS ME OF THE CROWDS FROM TRIPLE SIX MAFIA SHOWS IN THE '90's.. EVERYBODY SNORTED OUT AND ROLLIN, GOIN FUCKIN NUUTTS!!!!! I MISS THAT SHIT!!!! I GOTTA FIND OUT WHEN THESE GUYS IS COMING BACK TO CENTRAL FL...
It's not the notes or complexity, it's the energy and rage. It's like Sunn o)))
Yeah Sunn o)) has lots of energy playing same note🤣
You kinda reminded me of a thought I had
Grindcore and noise music are very looked alike, if we think about it. Of course, one brutal and energetic wave, the other more of an energy wave and brutality, if that makes sense.

Jk
What?? Sun o)) is boring
word
Exactly! 👏🏻👏🏻
I love the idea of just a bassist and drummer making rocking music like this.
If you don't wear ear protection to a Lightning Bolt show, you are asking for it.
I like to imagine that the drum and the bass are repelling the crowd with waves of sound.
Chippendale and Zach Hill are probably the most legendary drummers of all time.
They are both great and interested cases but not even close to legendary by now. Time will tell...
Nowadays
Chris Dave wins everything. Forever.
JOY RIDE they’ll be legendary 15 years from now
TOKYO DRIFT imagine thinking death grips is underground
three years ago I searched up "lightning bolt" to try and find a video. I found this instead. Been a fan ever since.
The fingerbanging at 0:49 looks like he is being told off
+MyHerpderp Like, play harder or you'll be sent to your room
"Not quite my tempo."
"fingerbanging"
finger bang bang bang!
Haha it even makes him look away all uncomfortable too. I would too. That guy was so excited
If i've already commented I apologise. This is one of the best live performances i've ever watched. I love how they set up in the middle of the crowd and the playing is just unreal. How can you not obsess over this band?
stick flip at 1:39 is the coolest thing ever
+Will Kraus whoa. didn't see that the first time i watched this. rad!
It doesn't look like it was for show either. Maybe the top part of his stick broke off and the bottom part of the stick was a temporary fix.
I'm still bedazzled by that stick flip
what scares me is i think that was intentional! lol Brian is, and always been a legend. his style is impetuous
stick flip at 1:41 confirmed
the absolute madman
holy fuuuuuu
dude's a madman
I feel bad for all those people feeling bad
I was very lucky to see them live & believe me, one of the best shows you’ll ever see.
Generally, i get the vibe that "ego" is left at the door of the venues that Lightning Bolt plays, with Everyone feeling on the same level.
Saw these guys last week in Brisbane. Insane show. Blew my mind. Cracked a rib. Worth it :)
Oh what they came to aus?!?
@@alexcooper759yeah and had shit support acts
Saw these guys live one time... amazing.
It doesn't look like it would be, but it IS.
You feel like the cops are gonna kick the doors in and stop the show pretty much the WHOLE time.
Orgiastic and rhythmic fury.
You can't see california without marlin Brando's eyes
Rip
it's better than the music your band makes.
This comment hurt me
I know
Idiot
the shits i take every morning are better than you, as a whole, as a person
@@RapidVidsProductions what's your band called
Maybe the drummer don't do a hard beat, but he is still an athlete, smashing on a drum like that for like 1 hour and 30 minutes, he must be in shape
Love the intensity of the playing and the joy of the audience. I've been to so many soulless and polite performances its refreshing to see somebody who understands what it means to put on a good show.
I love the guy just rubbing his own belly at 0:12

The more I listened to this the more it sounds like music. Avant garde? No. True art.
Brian Gibson is such an underrated bass player
Im sooooo hyped to see them at Desert Daze this year!!!
Somebody told Lightning Bolt that a hook is a catch melody played early in a song that can be called back to later to keep audience engagement, and this is what they came up with.
JUST AMAZING.
oh man this is insane, i love it.
My absolute favorite Band!
Great upload. Thanks a lot!
chippendale is so kind offstage and so terrifying on stage
Yes man, amazing
This video is awesome. Great quality.
Thank you !
amazing band!
Awesome
I love it
Its the most expressive drumming have seen in years, apart from the technical brilliance. The man is a beast, uh, in a good way.
Love it guy
That was one of the awesomest things I've ever heard and seen O.O
Would it be silly to ask for bass tabs?
I... I think he uses banjo strings for his 4th and 5th strings or something like that
Haha banjo
Yeh Banjo strings, and his bass is tuned like a Cello.
d'addario also makes non-wounds with bass ball-ends, so you can get an .018 gauge string for that top E.
tuned gdae. the low string on his 5 string is a C.

Brian also drums on Bjork's song Nattura and I'm glad it led me here. Thank you Jesus
Tonight is the night I'm going to see them and it is going to be glorious!
My mind is shattering into a million pieces this is so fucking awesome.
Seeing them this Sunday. Going to miss being able to hear.

This isn't necessarily my favorite kind of music but i admire that drummer for being able to calmly play drums while those people are moshing 6 inches away.
“Calmly”
These guys are....fucking incredible. 'Specially the drummer. Dear god.

My face is melted....ugh
Fucking amazing these guys are what the fuck I cant even
someone should make a bass tab to these and make millions of people happy :D
!!!! .... looks like i've found some gold

This is so fucking inventive. How abstract can music become?
LB!!!
i fucking LOOOOOOOOOVE YOU....STILL!
btw.....THANK YOU/YOU ALL!!
Just saw them in Auckland, was fucking intense to say the least. If you ever see these guys make sure you are ready to fight a surge of people. I had to use all my strength to not be pushed into Brian's equalizer the whole concert. but fucking awesome set.

the raw fucking energy from the drummer...god fucking damn
no contest, Zach has the golden footwork
why is everyone obssessing over the drummer, he's actually playing a really simple beat
@gkmonster how did you even pick up on that? incredible
i think Rhode Island does that to people... pure raw fucking energy.
oh god
Face melting!
The drummer reminds me a lot of "Refused" also another great band like this.
Sheldon Cooper; world's best drummer as well as physisist
and based on how awesome this song is, I wouldn't blame him
This is fucking epic
1:39 stick flip xD
