You're absolutely right about nike butchering jerseys. For instance the Lakers jersey was so good during the adidas era but now nike changed it to this neon/piss yellow which just looks off.
And when nike first started supplying the jerseys they ripped all the time on court. Hope they've learned a thing or two, hate to see the same thing happen to baseball.

Nike is fucking ass when it comes to their jersey quality. Remember when their paper thin NBA jerseys ripped on the court from light tugs alone? Sad how we’re now at the point where DHgate jerseys surpass Nike’s quality in some aspects. Adidas or Rawlings (Majestic unfortunately bit the Fanatics bullet) better put up a higher bid when the Nike contract expires otherwise we’re fucked.

Majestic simply had quality jersey's, period. Hell, I have a 1993 Phillies jersey from Russell Athletic that STILL is in incredible condition, thick material, fine twill stitching of logo, numbers are high quality. Even the Majestic MLB tee shirts were so much better, thicker material than the super thin Nike tees of today. That's all gone. It truly was sad when I saw Nike taking over the MLB jersey's (this obnoxious Swoosh on the chest) and at a higher price. Don't get me started with the damn sponsorship patches on sleeves, thats a whole other topic (again, Phillies dropping the unique numbers on the sleeves to make way for the sponsor patch..ugh) But now....Feb. 2024....holy crap, this is a punch in the face to fans! I've seen the Phillies jerseys in store...felt that and it's garbage in my opinion, especially for the price. So I never bought the Nike made jersey...and I sure as hell will NEVER buy this new high priced garbage they are spewing out now.
Ill certainly take the credit. It seems as so were beginning to go backwards with jerseys and the quality control which makes no sense. As you mentioned, jerseys 30 years ago had much better production as it was major league uniform quality

If you follow soccer Adidas and Nike make the “authentic” jerseys cost 50% more than the “replicas” but somehow the fabric and material is much better in the “replicas”

Nike is the worst when it comes to making jerseys in all sports. Low quality, they want to show the whole world who makes the jersey by slapping the logo on front of jerseys (which looks bootleg) let alone unprofessional and now them trying to change the font on names and jerseys is a way to make jerseys look worse just so they can say they’re bringing out something new when it’s a massive downgrade. Nike needs to go. Adidas needs to step in. They won’t force shit like Nike does.

Yeah these jersey Ts by Nike makes it not even look like a jersey anymore. My favorite were the Rebook NFL jerseys, they had that team color shine and it felt like wearing an actual jersey. Nike's jersey production has that dull color tone on the jerseys.

Why is everything on the uniform so laughably tiny and crammed together? Looks like they messed up and put the fonts made for kids jerseys on an adult jersey.

MLB jerseys peaked around 2012. The authentics didn't have the "diaper yet" that showed itself on home whites with pinstripes missing at the bottom and the replicas still used tackle twill for the lettering/numbering and not the heat pressed stuff. I'd still go back to the Majestic heat pressed jerseys in a second. On top of all this Nike replica jerseys are produced in Indonesia and Guatemala. The Guatemala jerseys run true to size, the Indonesia ones run huge, but then have a tiny neck opening. I can't even order jerseys online unless I can ask if it'll be Guatemala or Indonesia...the Majestic ones had a slight size difference between the USA and Indonesia ones, but not this drastic. And I absolutely hate the dots and smaller font. A simple focus group study among baseball fans would've solved the question of "do our jerseys need drastic changes?" No.
Cool base is my favorite of the templates. All majestic were great but cool base like you mentioned really had that attention to detail and feel. Even the replicas were respectable as well. Embarrassing what nike has given us

Well this makes sense from a corporate standpoint, smaller fonts would need less material, less material costs less which puts more money into their pockets

A few years ago, I bought a Dodgers (gray) jersey from majestic. It says Los Angeles on the front, and the back was customized. They added my name and a number. Something I didn't notice was that there is no mlb logo on the back. Everything is stitched and I like, the material feels good on the jersey.
I'm in search of a new Dodgers jersey but with all this talk it has me thinking. I believe with these new jerseys the names and numbers are heat pressed.🤮

Yeah sponsors on jersey is the worst thing ever. Like in my opinion the only thing that should be on the jersey is the team name/city/state, Players number and name. No sponsors cause it doesn't look good. Like i dont like the simplestic designs they're aiming for.
