In August 2000, the E120 ninth-generation Corolla was introduced in Japan, with edgier styling and more technology to bring the nameplate into the 21st century. This version was sold in Japan, Australasia, Europe and the Middle East.
In mid-2001, the E130 Corolla Altis was released. It had a refreshed look and was slightly longer and wider than the E120 but with similar body panels and interior. The E130 was sold in ASEAN, India, and Taiwan.
The North American release was delayed until March 2002 (for the 2003 model year). The E130 was sold in North America from 2003 to 2008. The E120 continued in parallel in separate markets to the E130.
The station wagon model is called the Corolla Fielder in Japan. Production in Japan ended in January 2007 (for Corolla Runx and Allex),[10] but production in North America continued until October 2007.
Production continued in China as the Corolla EX until February 2017.
Japan (E140 narrow; 2006-2012)
The tenth generation of the E140 Corolla was introduced in October 2006. Japanese markets called the sedan Corolla Axio. The station wagon retained the Corolla Fielder name.
International (E140/E150 wide; 2006-present)
For international markets, a wider version of the E140 was sold with different styling, with the ASEAN and Taiwanese markets retaining the Corolla Altis branding. Production continued from June 2014 until present in South Africa as the entry level Corolla Quest.

Just did this today and because of this video it was so much easier. The tip to use that castle nut as a sort of an anvil was a great tip. Took me and my dad maybe half an hour get it done. I've got an 07 Corolla S with 260,000 miles on it
Sweet man, my 14 Corolla S just reached 200k yesterday very well built cars
Very helpful! I'm having nightmare of a time getting the new passenger side cv axle in my 2005 Matrix. I've used all the tricks; making sure the retainer clip gap is facing 12 o'clock, used some grease. wiggled, pushed bonked for the better part of a day. Driver side went in easily.
Take a 2 x 4 and use it to protect the threads while you tap it with a hammer and someone else has to be holding it in place.
When you did the driver side, did you pour out the transmission fluid?

Nice video. I just replaced mine today.
You do not have to remove the steering tie rod end.
I was unable to use the screwdriver to pull the axle. I had to rent a puller from O'Reily's Auto Parts. The puller rental was $65. After using it I was given a full refund.
I bought the seal to transaxle since if it leaks I won't have to do job again. Great video. Going to do mine soon. Thanks for video.🤙
Great video, wasn't sure how bad it was to replace. Looks like its manageable for the garage weekend warrior.
I dont ever recommend but if you ever need to hit a castle nut on anything screw it on upside down so you dont damage the divots on the nut and make sure its even with the bolt.
Great video and love hearing Chris Cornell in the back ground. “Say hello to heaven”
I definitely can do this myself, thank you Sir!! 👍🏼
Gonna try this on Wednesday - just snapped my driver's side. In the past, I was able to do them on different cars without having to remove the tie rod - we'll see if I can get away with it.
Excellent video. Would like to have seen the driver side joint removed...
Bruh you said pray to the axle gods and I chuckled. It was then that I knew I had to like and subscribe lol
When loosing anything push down with your weight, dont lift up w your back
Thanks for this video I have a 2007 seven toyota corolla and watching this video help me alot keep doing this videos.
thank you
Great Job man
Very good demonstration! Thank you for sharing. BTW Where is the best place to purchase the replacement CV axle for the Toyota Corolla? Othere than the dealer. I've heard that a lot of those after market are made of very poor quality and don't work well. Is there one brand, or a place to buy, that you recommend? Thank you, in advance for your response.
thanks for the video really helpful ! what if i want to change the outer boot can i disasmble the outer part of the axle and slide the boot?
Great video , now I can tackle mine
Go for it!
Can yu do a video on the right and left control arm replacement. No one has a good video taking all the mounts off. And honestly I dont think the engine needs to be lifted. We can talk more on some ideas
great video.
mine making noise when turn left, but no noise when turn right.
does that mean its left side axle ?
thanks
Or use your handy dandy 1/2 drive cordless impact if you do not have air 😏 When someone tells you to put something together in a certian order it usually means they have learned the hard way, how not to do it. Thanks.for the how to
Home Depot has a Ryobi impact around $100 with battery.worked great for my Honda and Toyotas axle nuts
I would put the castle nut on upside down.. great vid though
Thank You Bundy!
You are welcome!
Drive shaft corolla E130 same like a corolla E140?
Excellent video !
Thx!
Tapping at the end of the NEW axle to get it seated does not seem right to me... seem like it may damage the CV joints?
i want to see 2006 toyota corolla S CV axle replacement drivers side not passenger side
Lol you look like me working under the car. Backup upon backup, lol just can't trust your life on one jackstand , jack or tire.
New CV joint has no damper, which use to absorb vibration.
Wheres the damper supposed to be?
Nice job
Great video, I have noticed the new axle shaft has no balancing rubber in the middle of the shaft such as the old shaft, l have corolla 2005 manual transmission, CV axle to be replaced. Is the same axle fit for automatic and manual transmission ? Thanks.
I’m assuming you don’t have to drain the transmission fluid? Every video I’ve watched doesn’t mention it. Never done a fwd axle before
Screw drivers unless they have a metal spike all the way through them & a metal top they're not meant to be used with a hammer!
Hey BundysGarage out of pure curiosity why did you paint the axle yellow?
I'd guess it can help confirm the job was completed to the customer in case they were wondering what was replaced.
@@Rexmorgan687 i do that too, helps when i resell my cars as well as an envelope full of the rock auto reciepts
You don't need to undo the steering rod. Just did the same job today. Boy the 3 17mm nuts/bolts on bottom were b@&$#% tight on mine!
How much fluid did you put back in ? That's where I'm stuck ...
"Play with your bolt first then put your nuts on." Alright! Giggitty giggity
PIN THIS COMMENT - IT"LL SAVE YOU TIME. So it is entirely possible to do a side in 45 mins without touching the balljoints or tierods, period. Essentially lift up the car after loosening the lugs and CV shaft bolt, turn the wheel all the way to the left (driver side axle), remove the bolt holding the brake flexhose (if you don't, the hub will rest on the flexhose when unbolted from the strut), then remove the two large bolts holding the hub to the strut. You may have to move the steering wheel a bit to get the right angle, but the shaft will pop out and in with little effort. I wasted the most time (about 10-15 mins) getting the trans side of the CV shaft out, it looks easier on the passenger side.
This way you don't have to worry about potentially impacting your steering geometry.
Are you talking about driver side of a left-hand drive (USA vehicle)? Driver side for me is right-hand drive (AUS)
Do you have to remove the castle nut from outer tie rod to do this job?
do you need to drain some trans fluid first?
Negative. Just check the level after you are done.
The factory service manual says to drain the fluid, but it isn't necessary as long as you have just a few ounces of ATF to top it off if necessary. The FSM often says to do things that just don't make sense and which many pro mechanics ignore because they know a better way.
Exactly
i wish i had tools and a house to do this my self unfortunately i don't know so im paying some1 90 bucks to do it for me is that a good price?
Hi, did you have to aligned the wheel after installing the CV Joint??
No, it’s does not mess with the alignment at all. But if it pulls to the left or right when driving or when you brake, you should get an alignment.
@@bundysgarage alignment has no affect on braking. If youre pulling to a side when you brake, the issue is in the brake system not steering system.
Calls a tie rod a ball joint. Smdh
Hey buddy I successfully replaced the passenger axle because there were a clicking noise I thought was coming from cv axle but i just finded out the noise is coming from the transaxle but only when I'm applying the brakes any thoughts you think it could be
Also forgot to mention I lifted the car on jack stands I took the passenger wheel and I noticed that it click loud when I wiggle the rotor from right to left i know this isn't normal
Check for a loose bolt or nut.
I just replace both front cv axles on 2011
Corolla and it seemed like everything went good but now I'm hearing a "whomping" sound as I drive and when pulling into reverse it makes a cluck sound. Anybody got any ideas on what this could be?
Maybe you didn't seat the shafts back in the transmission all the way. Also check to make sure the axle nut hasn't come loose
are the axles the same for automatic and manual cars?
No
Does it cover 09 type S 2.4l
Yes
hey are you pushing or hitting your screwdriver with a hammer or sledge by chance?
Do you need to do alignment after? thanks
Negative
@@bundysgarage ok, I asked cause mine is pulling just a little to the right, not alot, just a little. My mechanic also changed the transmission at the same time.
Is there anything you can do about the CZcams commercials??
I will subscribe but the interruptions are irritating
Noice! Alice in Chains - Junkhead @ 4:55
Damn bro dont lift up to loosen a bolt. Push down with your weight.
If your worried about mushrooming anything or messing any of the bolt or nuts .... why not us a rubber mallet so that doesn’t happen??
The rubber absorbs too much of the force of the blow
Would be a lot better if you had real tools, didn't use a screwdriver as a prybar for example, and use correct terms. Tie Rods are not ball joints!
Everyone’s a critic!
workforce screwdriver from walmart!!!
What brand was the replacement axle?
Sorry I don't remember,
How much transmission oil is recommended for the refill?
Only the amount that came out
What size is the tie rod end castle nut?
Prob a 14, 17, or 19MM
What's to prevent a mechanic from damaging a part taking the car apart and then lying and saying it was damaged to begin with and charging the customer extra?
Nothing, that’s why you have to find an honest mechanic.
I'm being charged (parts and labor) almost $700 to replace the entire axle left and right and replace 2 gaskets. 😭
What gaskets? That seems a little high. Is he using Toyota factory axles or an aftermarket brand?
What’s the year, make, and model of your vehicle?
2006 Toyota Corolla CE. After I purchased the car I discovered it has 100k more miles than advertised for a total of 234k miles. I paid $2250 for the car & 2k in repairs (4 new tires, new shocks, alignment, back windshield). I have seen myself that the car needs new cv axles bc the rubber boots are torn and leaking. The undercarriage between the axles has a great deal of old oil and dirt, so mechanic suggested it might be a gasket to the oil pan (?) also a gasket where the axles goes into the transmission (?). Test showed car engine has good compression. No check engine lights. No codes with OBD2 reader. Should i continue to repair this car or is it too worn with high mileage?
he has a history of domestic tool abuse
Who?
@@bundysgarage that prybar chisel guy who slapped the screwdriver
Good vid = Sub'd
LoL 😆 ! I is a screw driver not a punch ..
Labor time for this job ?
Calls a tie rod a ball joint 🤔
To be fair, it has a ball style joint in it. Your hip is ball and socket too.
Sir, you are not sérious to show people to hit with steel hammer on threaded mechanical parts
It's a five minute job! Taking too much off
I am wondering if it can be done without removing the castle nut on the outer tie rod?
Nice job
