Another beautiful film by Tony Price. Some glorious landscape images along with the close ups, the people and so on. Many thanks to him and his vision back in the 1970s. May he rest in peace. Thank you for sharing this footage.

Tony had a real cinematic eye which shows in his films. He’s trying to tell a story.

Thank you for sharing. Excellent footage capturing some of the activity that was more common in the not so distant past. CIE / Irish Rail management really had no interest in promoting such traffic and wanted rid of the line. How short sighted. Even more reckless was the way the Co Council have not reinstated the bridge over the N63 near Ballyglunin to further ensure difficulty in reinstating the Athenry - Claremorris line.

Changing these attitudes is quiet a challenge but the tide maybe changing. Watch this space.

What a tremendous gift CZcams is for the railway enthusiast! An excellent video from cine film…I’m so grateful that someone took the trouble to film the freight workings. I was especially pleased to see Tuam level crossing gates in action. The late Bill Mannion (a relative of mine) who lived in a Tuam used to tell me about the traffic chaos whenever the gates were closed for trains! Whenever I was attending the original venue for the Amateur Radio rally at Knock I used to drive over the numerous level crossings between Tuam and Claremorris and seeing them lying derelict was a sobering and sad experience. Let’s hope the line will re-open soon…there’s been a recent glimmer of hope from a Irish Government Minister! Thanks again, I really do appreciate these videos. Best wishes from Rob In Bournemouth, England.

Thanks Rob. It’s highly likely that Tuam and the crossings between there and Claremorris will echo to the sounds of trains again. We’re forever grateful for the likes of Tony Price and others who captured these scenes on cine film at a time when cine was expensive to buy. He’s left a wonderful legacy.
