You covered that exceptionally well & I hope you'll be attending at the swan round-up when we're notified it's due, as we've missed a few because of Covid & then avian flu lately. I've been attending the swan round up & count at Abbotsbury for three decades or more now, using my kayak for many years to paddle & herd them, as part of a team of paddlers, all up the Fleet, staying overnight camping & early 5 a.m. start to get them rounded up for the count & checking, weighing, injections etc.. They're wonderful birds to handle mostly becoming docile when being handled. This enabling me to help Police confidently remove one that landed, as they do from time to time, on Exe bridges locally over the river. Landing into the traffic lanes, they can cause chaos & when Police arrived I assured them I was confident to take the swan & walk it to the river below for release. So my time attending these events has not all been wasted !
This is truly wonderful! I love waterfowl, I grew up feeding geese/ducks, I’ve never fed any Swans because they’re uncommon here in the US. I would love to have this amazing experience feeding all of these magnificent creatures 🦢
that was just fantastic to watch thank you both of you, for creating that magical film! I used to live near Dartmouth in a place called Blackpool Sands! the place that looks after the swans is a stunning place how lovely for all the people involved! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👌
So glad you enjoyed it Nigel! We love visiting the Swannery and will be back again soon. We'll have to explore Dartmouth and look out for that place, thank you for the suggestion! We hope you enjoy the other videos on our channel...
This was really cool. When I was at Windsor I was crossing over one of the bridges on the Thames when I spotted a swan that was swimming kinda odd. I thought he was injured but to my surprise he/she had 3 legs. I tried taking a picture but it really didn't come out right. I mention it to the swan ambulance and they knew about it. 🙂
They quite often swim with one leg on their back. Not sure why, it certainly doesn't look comfortable, and is rather disconcerting to onlookers! So glad you enjoyed this video, thanks for watching!
Great video! I love swans. Years ago in Aruba I saw a pair of black swans. Lovely. I look forward to your follow-up up videos on this topic. Funny to hear that the swans peck the staff but don't bother visitors.
So interesting and fun, thank you. Not a gentle bird; they don't like Canadian geese in the harbour at our marina. Interesting about the brackish water but none of that here on the Great Lakes. I think I saw the post move 😉 ahahahaha love the outtakes!
Thank you for watching MaryJane! The swans at the Swannery are much calmer than those in the wild - I guess they've just become used to seeing so many visitors year-round.
Fascinating and absolute fun. Thank you. 🦢
Glad you enjoyed it Ona 😊

There are some black swans at Abbotsbury too, but you have to look hard to spot them amongst all the other birds! Thank you for watching!

Donald Swann? ... Check out Donald Swann and Michael Flanders "At The Drop of a Hat" !!
We will! Thanks for watching
A “kadunger?” I grew up on a farm in the U.S, and always called them “post drivers.” However, “kadunger” is a more interesting term!
Perhaps it's a name we could introduce in the states... Thank you for your comment and watching the video!
