  • Hello everyone, I would like to make it clear that I’m simply expressing my views and letting you know how I’ve arrived at that conclusion. By no means is this a simple issue that can be flagged as right or wrong.
I’m not presenting as an industry expert, just an individual with an opinion I wanted to share.
I’m hopefully starting off a respectful discussion so we can protect and preserve our wildlife because the current situation isn’t working and our beautiful countryside deserves better.

I thought fox hunting was no longer used and only scent trails were laid down

Yes, that's the idea - 99% of hunts are trail hunting. But we've had over 15 years of a hunting ban and the foxes are still suffering. My point is that it needs a proper conversation and we need find a better solution for the preservation of our wildlife.

I'm not suggesting for a minute that I have all (or any) of the answers. I just wanted to get the ball rolling!

Foxes are an introduced species to Australia and cause devastation to many native Australian species.

All right here’s my two cents . As a dude from America I really don’t see The argument in terms of population control . every couple years about once a decade we have a problem with overpopulation when it comes to deer ( especially during corona when no one left their house ) . In response what happened was everyone grabbed a shotgun and started blowing the heads off of all the sick old deer . I say this mainly because I guarantee you this is about 100% more effective and less cruel to just go in to the forest with a dog and a side-by-side . I guarantee you this would work about 10 times faster than a real fox hunt . a fox hunt ( The ones I’ve been on that never involve an animal ) Can last hours sometimes and that would just be for one fox A really ineffective way of controlling an animal population if anything I feel like it would hurt the cause . Because all it does is drive all the other foxes deeper into the woods causing them to clump together and further exacerbate the problem . listen I am by no means some kind of eco warrior . I have a thing with a girl who hunts literally every weekend( like the real kind gun and dogs and stuff. even though never killed an animal myself . Really in all honesty I see nothing appealing or reasonable when it comes to arguments in favor of real fox hunting .

Honestly gotta kinda agree fox hunting just seems like a sport for men to cowardly to kill something themselves.

Thank you for commenting, I can see your point about guns being more effective and less cruel - I'm not an expert but the arguments against guns seem to be about accesibilty, success rate or that guns don't discriminate between sick and healthy foxes wheras hounds only kill the weak. But it's something that needs looking at! As I see it, the population control is really about keeping the numbers down so we have a vibrant & healthy fox population - not the diseased looking ones we see in our towns and cities. I don't know the answers, but the current set up isn't working and our foxes deserve better.
