To your viewer in their 40’s what to do today to prepare for their future, I suggest they tune into a podcast called “Retirement Starts Today”. Awesome advice!
Morning! Was paying $250 a month for Direc TV - cxid and went to CZcams TV - SO MUCH BETTER, No boxes, can watch on all TV;s, iPads, unlimited DVR Storage! $65 a month!
At 19:00 Jerry mentions that Fried Chicken is his favorite comfort food. At the very second Jerry say, "Fried Chicken", Gizmo pops his head up and starts licking his chops. It might be his favorite also.
When Hurricane Wilma hit in October 2005 the weather was pleasant enough to where having no AC was tolerable. Not having electricity for my coffee maker was the worst.
The biggest finance problem for some people were over spent in younger days, and helping children education. o their comfort foods were not as bad as I was expected; at least nothing over fattening like sweets. KFC used t be my favorite before the dead of Colonel, now most super markets made decent fried chicken except Walmart.
I cut the cord last October. I have Roku on all my tv's. I don't miss my satellite tv, especially the multiple commercials. the drug commercials sent me over the edge and made me pull the plug. no regrets
Just when I was gonna ask when will Gizmo get a t-shirt, you're on it! That dog is too cute! I like the t-shirts and the nice pastel colors. We love seeing you guys & Gizmo too. Thanks for all the news, info, mailbag questions, etc. The Villages seems like a nice place to live.
We have lived in The Villages for over 15 years, in FL over 20 years, and have not experienced a power outage longer than a couple of hours. ( I do recall one time in JAX when my husband called me ‘back up North’ to complain about a ‘brown out’. I was unsympathetic as we were experiencing a blizzard and were without ANY POWER for several days….) living in The Villages puts us in a bubble for sure! Underground power and utilities, as well as new technologies keep us relatively ‘safe’.
I cut the cord a few years ago and don’t miss it at all. We have CZcamstv and enjoy it. I have transitioned to CZcams almost exclusively and stay as busy as I want to be and have discovered channel like yours.
I don’t laugh at “regular” TV as much as I do watching you guys! We cut the cable and land-line cord a couple months ago. All we pay for is internet now ($60/mo) but I expect that’ll be going up in price once everyone else drops their cable subscriptions. Love the pink shirts! ⛳️🌞🌴🇱🇷
Buy a roku about 29 bucks , learn how to use it, you can get local broadcasting and hundreds of other channels , once you have the hang of it you'll see u can cut the cord. Housing here is going quick. Houses are selling in a day. Pool homes are going 20 to 50k over asking some times. And KFC is my fav , wife won't let me eat it. We rented a golf cart and it was insured by the company.the people in northern section call the southern area MEXICO ...I enjoy seeing the kids in the pool but a lot of people hate it.
Linda, you have such a beautiful smile. Gizmo was very funny today. When are we going to see those cooking videos Linda? I love your tee shirts, so colorful and tropical.
I picked up around 60 channels with HTDV antenna in the attic but it is QVC, old movies and stuff like that! Between down there, and here in NC for just Internet and 2 cell phones, we pay 400 a month! Remember when all you had was 20 dollar phone a month hanging on the wall and rabbit ears on your TV! We mainly just watch You tube!
Yes! Cut that cord!!! I did it four yours ago and it is a great savings. My TV viewing is via Roku through the internet and a local PBS station also via Roku. Many options are available -- start your research, you will be astonished at what is available for free.
There was an enrichment class in the villages in Jan 2021 while I was visiting to discuss this very subject. How to disconnect from the cable TV and the many free options. I’m going to look it as I bet it is still being presented
We did the same 2 years ago, a lot of free viewing on Roku and then we added Fubotv for $55 a month, it has been great, sports, local channels, news cable, and old-time classics, couldn't be happier and saved nearly $100 a month.
Have you tried Pluto TV, the Roku Channel and the CZcams channel. They're all on Roku and free. You can also try Hulu for around $6.00 a month with commercials OR around $11.00 per month WITHOUT commercials. I chose the latter. Well worth it.
Another great video. I just love Gizmo. He sits there like such a good boy, and he really behaves himself. I have a doxie, too. Her name is Bella. She would never behave herself so well. She’d only be that still if she were sleeping. 😂
Cable T options: Pluto TV (free), Firestick with Amazon Prime (have to buy the firestick and Prime has annual fee), a Ruko stick (stick costs about $35-55). All have lots of free TV shows, movies, DYI, lots of classic TV shows and movies.
Hi Jerry and Linda, Alan Johnson here. I'm the gentleman from Louisville who spoke to you on the phone a month or so ago and your farm was located near my family. Two things: First the funny. Jerry, you and I are near the same age and like you I also met the Colonel back in the day and yes he was extremely friendly, welcoming, and pleasant. His chicken "ain't" bad either! On the TV and cable issue. Cut it today! We cut our cable approximately four years ago after some of my techy friends clued me in to what was available. Between the over the air stations, ROKU, and CZcams channels such as yours there is 100 times more content available than you could ever watch. And as a special bonus you get to be extremely selective and watch content that is upbeat, informative, entertaining, and educational, all under your own control and your own choice. We have absolutely "ZERO" cable and/ or TV expense! Again today's episode was excellent. My compliments to all three of you and my thanks for making this fun and informative content available.
if you go this route id'e google out the OTARD laws for OTA antennas and satellite dishes they can't stop you from putting one up. a condo is a whole different animal vs a sticks and bricks home
I said bye to Spectrum TV too. Now I use Sling and Paramount+. Locast, which gives you the local channels, comes thru Sling. My brother uses Hulu. Depends on what you like to watch.
Was just there at Brownwood yesterday enjoying the band, tents, and people! What community- it’s great. I browsed around the neighborhoods and really like the birdcages the best. Great way to retire I think. Ok heading back to Denver to dust off my snow shovel- snow is a few months away…
Sbhanse, we just sold our home in Denver and relocated to The Villages. So happy to get rid of snow shovels.....but....watching Elsa move across the state is not so fun. Didn't expect this weather as soon as we relocated. 🤦♀️
Jerry, you like KFC, have you tried the fried chicken at McCall’s Tavern at Spanish Springs Town Square? It is the best fried chicken anywhere!!! There is about a 20 minute wait because it is cooked to order, but it is worth the wait!!! The freshest, not greasy, best tasting you can get!!! Give it a try and you won’t go to KFC again.
Another enjoyable Mailbag Monday! Love Gizmo’s tee shirt. Please thank Gizmo for answering our question this morning. He’s one smart pup! Hope you have a wonderful week. Marilyn & Perry
PER GOLF CART INSURANCE-We did not take insurance. We do not know for sure but since they are supplied by TV, we assumed(not suggested😁) that there is some sort of basic coverage. Some auto policies do include but ours does not. Not sure if this helps or not but have fun on your visit..
Thats the problem, you have to call and negotiate every year. I hated that, very annoying. Discovery+ No Commercials for $6.99 a month! Plus other options we use too.
We lived in Houston for 7 years through several hurricanes. The worst was hurricane Alicia. We were without water for 5 days and power for 10. We moved to Arizona the next year. I don’t recommend trying to ride out a hurricane or live through 100 degree days and 100 percent humidity that can be the aftermath.
Just got back from my lifestyle visit of 4 days over independence day weekend. They put me up in a Bonifay near the water lily bridge. Drove the cart everywhere. Got lost once. Haha. My Labrador wasn't able to be boarded the day before I came down, so I called and they let me bring her; just had to pay an additional cleaning fee. I booked my trip in late March for July 4. FYI the homes do go fast. My realtor sent me one with a link on Thursday at 4, and when I got a chance to view at 415 it was pending already. Hope you stayed safe during Elsa, the new pink color looks great.
I am renting for 2 weeks in Bonnybrook. Just a few fireworks hrte on July 4. Nothing like my home in suburban Chicago...there the fireworks start around July 1 and go on for 5 or 6 days.
another option might be would be to ditch spectrum and goto another provider. i know spectrum will not budge on price once to promo's end!!! they would rather you walk away from em and cancel!!! directv has always given me new promo's every year!!
I have CZcams TV and love it. You can set to record any shows and it’s digitally saved so you never run out of space. You can have it on all TVs and phone, computers and tablets. I do have Comcast internet
Me too - I switched to CZcams TV many years ago. Yes, the price is going up but $65 is nothing compared to $200 a month. There is a little bit getting used to CZcams TV but when you master it then it is superior anything cable TV can offer. We just came back from 7 days lifestyle visit and the house had cable and I just couldn't stand it. I ended up watching CZcams TV on my iPad. Give it a chance you won't regret it
I pay 40 a month for internet, 70 a year for Disney+, prime video with my Amazon prime, free version of peacock tv, CZcams, Pluto tv . Watch local news off of antenna
I enjoyed your show today....I did not skip through and watched the W H O L E thing. I do not expect we will ever move to The Villages as that would put 800 miles between us and the grand and great grandkids. Thanks for your efforts for the entertainment and life info. mike
I always look forward to mailbag Monday. But, my first impression was. "What the hell is Jerry doing in pink "???? What a good husband. 👍 Promote those tees Jerry. CUT THE CORD! We did it three years ago, and I was a huge TCM, and AMC junkie. Our bill went from $200 to $250 for the triple play. We both agree, enough! Books, magazines, hikes, yard work, trips, etc, there is always something to do. Oh, did I mention the dishes. 😳 I wash the dishes and watch mailbag Monday. 😅🤣😂😹
You can keep expenses in check with a Roku streaming device. Most channels are free, like Pluto TV, the Roku Channel and the CZcams channel. All you need is Internet service. I watch Hulu for $11.00 per month commercial free.
Hello Jerry & Linda, my wife Linda and I are big fans. We live in California. You know the no rain state ☹️. Hope you guys are well prepared for the storm. Plenty of water, food, skittles, etc. It would be nice if you could get a few vids of the wind and rain 🌧 to show on your channel. That would be great to see by us who have forgotten what rain looks and feels like. Take Care, praying for you both and certainly Gizmo! Nick and Linda
Jerry and Linda, I still enjoy your videos even though I moved to a retirement community recently (not the villages). I’ve said before, your advice on many topics is relevant to anyone planning to retire. You guys have way too much fun!
We've lived in the south for 30 years. In all that time, the longest power outage we faced was four days during Irma. The solution to the temporary AC issue is to purchase a small inverter generator and a 5000 BTU window AC. Then you can have AC to sleep at night. I keep a gas can full of fuel from July to October. If I don't use it by October, I pour it into my car until next year.
I love how your ads by CZcams are often completely in Spanish now! Just saw an add by Verizon for an Apple iPhone all in Spanish! Wonderful! I don’t speak Spanish, but I thought it was interesting. Times are changing…
@@JERRYANDLINDA Really! lol I think in fact you are the first YT channel I even noticed an ad in Spanish. Maybe you are having more reach than you realize? I am a 54 year old teacher, so it surprised me.
You don’t need to be embarrassed about wearing baby sun screen, most adults wear it, including young people in their 20’s and 30’s. Also my favorite chicken is the KFC extra crunchy too but sadly I have been gluten free for years due to Celiac disease. There is a place in Branson, Mo that has really good gluten free fried chicken called “Branson’s Center Stage Grille & Bar”. They have separate fryers and are very conscience of gluten free customers as I talked with the owner. Lastly, Gizmo is the most behaved dog I have ever saw. We love his talking parts. So clever.
I cut the cord in 2012. What I did was bought 2 TiVos and used those as a hub for our tv watching. I would suggest biting the bullet and paying for their lifetime service up front instead of paying monthly forever. The DVR works really well and the menus are easy to navigate. There is plenty to watch playing over the air.
I feel your Spectrum pain. We here in Wisconsin have had a $195 cable bill for awhile and all of a sudden you think it won’t go any higher, and it now just turned to $208 a month. It would seem that if you were a loyal customer for so many years you should be appreciated for that, but no, the longer you stay, the more you pay. We can afford it probably like you, but it is getting out of hand. Be interested to see what you decide to do
I have been a Comcast customer for 20+ years in suburban Chicago. My bill is $165 per month, including internet and landline. That was after a couple of hours negotiating on the phone a few months ago. Only new customers get the "deals" with Comcast. The long time customers get annual price increases. I will say Comcast is very reliable, which is very important, since I am working from home 50% of the time
Thanks Jerry and Linda Great episode! We cut the cord 10 years ago. Have Uverse for Internet and stream everything on our Roku sticks. We use our cell hot spot if the Uverse goes down which is seldom. Happy Tails and thanks for keeping it real.
I was paying 90+ for Comcast for wi-fi only . Had to streaming services on Firestick. Why two? one would crap out during the day . one service was 22.00 and the other one 31 per month. so now were up to 143.00. and comcast charges for over using data.. been as high as 125.00 one month. so I went back to comcast for 177.00 per month... better service too
Hey there. To reduce your Spectrum bill, cancel your cable (not your internet) for 30 days, returning the box if you have one. Then on the 31st day, you are eligible for new customer pricing. During that 30 days, we sign up for Sling TV for the 30days, so that we continue to have most of the same channels. Often there are specials on streaming channels, so the 30 day package is usually very reasonable.
Great suggestion, would always also recommend an Umbrella policy which provides added insurance over anything that you could be deemed liable. Calling insurance company or local agent is always a good choice but in all likelihood unless it’s specifically excluded, you’ll have coverage(e.g. if you are riding a golf cart on a regular golf course, they will typically have you sign a waiver which basically puts liability back onto the person renting the golf cart. If a loss occurs(hit another golfer and injure them), typically, depending on the state and the insurance company, one policy will respond before the other(many times Homeowners responds first).
Love your videos. You both are a delight and very informative. My husband is retiring in 3 weeks he is 55 and I am 53. Next year we are going to discuss moving to a warmer climate. We have internet access and a roku. The only thing we pay for is spectrum internet. You can pay for the app channels you want.
We just came back from a 7 days lifestyle visit. We are in our early to mid 50s and let me tell you - we loved it. We booked a villa for December - can't wait to get back. Here are some of the things we loved: - Everything is gorgeous. We live in a beautiful master plan community in the Houston area. The villages are much prettier - The weather in early July much more pleasant than in Houston. It felt much less humid than in Houston. - We love all the squares - very nice to just stroll around with the dog. - Exploring the communities in the golf cart was a lot of fun. - Publix is great - kind of like HEB in Texas - We attended the 4th of July performance which was very nice. PS - as I replied on a another thread -switch to CZcams TV - you will save money and you will get a much better TV experience. The way it records and let you pause live TV is very intuitive and works great if you have more than one TV or tablet/phone.
Hi Jerry, Linda and Sweet Gizmo🐾 ! We cut the Cord and canceled Xfinity about 5 years ago..Best Decision Ever! First we had CZcams TV, price went up from $49 to $65. We canceled it about a year later (after we moved into our Trilogy 55+ Community) we now have Discovery+ No Commercials for $6.99 per month. So between that and our Free Samsung TV built in Free stations on our Samsung, our Regular CZcams, and we do use a Chromcast for other internet streaming. Plenty of viewing options available! We Love your Channel💕😊
We cut the cord about 5 years ago. We had Uverse in Louisville and they finally quit negotiating with us, so we went with live TV only for a year. We really missed live sports (ESPN) so we jumped back in with AT&T TV, which is like CZcams TV--you get your "cable" TV through your Internet. We got a great deal as an early adopter and really like it. We'd probably go with CZcams TV if we didn't get that great deal. You're right, it still costs $, but it's less than what we'd pay with a cable package. Enjoyed the video.
We switched to fire stick …… very pleased with cost savings and access to channels we love …. Now have little or no patience for the endless advertisements on regular tv. Ran concurrently for a couple months before we severed ties with cable. - just internet and for the past year no issues with storms, interruptions or that horrible spinning/buffering which basically signals you -go do something else cause you aren’t going to be watching TV!!!!! Hey “Guys” mark us down for a double dip American/Canadian viewer - my spouse has dual citizenship!!!! LOL
Everyone should keep in mind that if you want to cut the cord in the Villages, or anywhere in the US, for that matter... you can just use an old fashioned TV antenna, either rabbit ears, or an antenna on the roof, just like back in the 70's.... and completely free. Most urban areas you can easily get 30-40 channels over the air locally. AND, it's important to note, that in places where an outdoor antenna is required to get reception, NO HOA can prohibit you from mounting a TV antenna on the roof of your home. Many HOA's have that restriction, but the Telecommunications act of 1996 made all of those clauses in HOA covenants null and void. And in regards to fireworks.. I LOVE fountains!
Our cable is included with our HOA. $28/per month. Doesn’t include the premium channels but I don’t watch those. I can stream most major channels on my iPad using my wifi that I get through my cable company. Apple TV is $4.99/mo. I got a free 12 months when I upgraded my iPad. You need to check your options. Apple TV is via the Internet and you have that anyway.
And they’re goes another mailbag Monday!❤️❤️ Glad you brought up Spectrum! We went down to basic cable because our bill went up $20.00. So after the first month we get another bill for the same amount. They went up $20.00 on our equipment so there went that savings! We are looking for alternative as well. We are tired of being held hostage!
How about a higher chair or extra cushion for Gizmo so we can see him better during your video?💖😊
LOVE THE PINK T SHIRTS ! You both are jewels who sparkle in the dullest day !!!❤️ and I love GIZMO’S Shirt 🐶Shadow
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
As to how long kids can stay……. We were told “You don’t have to count….your neighbors will!”
To your viewer in their 40’s what to do today to prepare for their future, I suggest they tune into a podcast called “Retirement Starts Today”. Awesome advice!
We should have a get together in one of the town squares for the “groupies” following the villages newcomers wearing our tee shirts!
Great idea!! 😁😁
That sounds like a fun idea! I’d plan a visit to my sister for that!
Yes, please!

Love the pink Tshirts
I would put those Gizmo ice cubes in my martini. From Pinellas County
Vacuum cleaning is the most Zen of the household chores because when you're finished you empty the vacuum cleaner, thus become the vacuum cleaner....
You already have enter net, so try streaming - Hulu Live TV...etc But cut the cord, you will be so much happier and save $$$$
A follow up to not having cable, my wife also mentioned, if you have a SMART TV, you can stream as well. Good luck on your decision.

Keep that cable. It’s reliable, easy to use and if you enjoy it in retirement keep it.
I love mailbag Monday. Thank you for all the time you put into this program.

I have CZcams TV and love it. You can set to record any shows and it’s digitally saved so you never run out of space. You can have it on all TVs and phone, computers and tablets. I do have Comcast internet
Melody, We gotta do something! 😁😁
I second you tube tv.
I canceled CZcams tv. Price kept going up
Me too - I switched to CZcams TV many years ago.
Thanks for your efforts for the entertainment and life info. mike
Thank you Mike! That is one of the characteristics of a super viewer! 😁😁😁😁
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I like the new pink t-shirts!
Jerry and Linda, I still enjoy your videos even though I moved to a retirement community recently (not the villages). I’ve said before, your advice on many topics is relevant to anyone planning to retire. You guys have way too much fun!
Thanks Steve, best of luck in your new home.
Great advice!
I love how your ads by CZcams are often completely in Spanish now! Just saw an add by Verizon for an Apple iPhone all in Spanish! Wonderful! I don’t speak Spanish, but I thought it was interesting. Times are changing…
Really?????
@@JERRYANDLINDA Really! lol I think in fact you are the first YT channel I even noticed an ad in Spanish. Maybe you are having more reach than you realize? I am a 54 year old teacher, so it surprised me.
Great gizmoT shirts
Keep up the good work, Jerry and Linda! It's always fun to watch your videos, and the information you provide is very helpful.
Thanks for always sharing !
Best financial advice I received in my 20s was to live a conservative frugal life and invest 15% of your income in retirement accounts.
Great advice! 😁😁
Thanks guys, nice to see you are working on the holiday!
Fried chicken and BBQ...my wife and I are definitely kindred spirits. Look forward to your mailbag monday video each week. Great show guys!!😎👍
I will say Comcast is very reliable, which is very important, since I am working from home 50% of the time
I love McCalls Tavern in Spanish Springs for Chicken.
Thanks Jerry and Linda
Great episode!
Why two? one would crap out during the day . one service was 22.00 and the other one 31 per month. so now were up to 143.00. and comcast charges for over using data.. been as high as 125.00 one month. so I went back to comcast for 177.00 per month... better service too
Well that clears it up! 😁
Gizmos little newcomers shirt is just adorable, so is he
Maybe get a small rider attached to your homeowners insurance to cover the golf cart. I know people do this with boat rentals. Worth checking out.
I look forward to every Monday. My dream (and it’s only a dream) is to live in the villages. Thanks again for such a great video.
I cut the landline phone , cable TV now have (Hulu + Live local ) and have a great rate with consumer cellular for two lines. Significant savings !
Hi, Linda and Jerry. I surely do love your videos. Thank you for taking the time to share.
Thank you Susie, we appreciate it!😁😁
Love mail bag Mondays,,,thanks as always from Barefoot Bay !!!!!!!!!
That’s the sunscreen I use and I’m not one bit embarrassed. It doesn’t have avobenzene so it doesn’t stain your clothes. Banana Boat for Kids.
Yall best content on Monday.. Fun.. Entertaining n more.. like the T-shirts.. Thank You
We just came back from a 7 days lifestyle visit. We are in our early to mid 50s and let me tell you - we loved it. We booked a villa for December - can't wait to get back.
Here are some of the things we loved:
- Everything is gorgeous. We live in a beautiful master plan community in the Houston area. The villages are much prettier
- The weather in early July much more pleasant than in Houston. It felt much less humid than in Houston.
- We love all the squares - very nice to just stroll around with the dog.
- Exploring the communities in the golf cart was a lot of fun.
- Publix is great - kind of like HEB in Texas
- We attended the 4th of July performance which was very nice.
PS - as I replied on a another thread -switch to CZcams TV - you will save money and you will get a much better TV experience. The way it records and let you pause live TV is very intuitive and works great if you have more than one TV or tablet/phone.
What an excellent run down on your visit. So glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for answering my cable question! Ken you guys are the best.
Happy Independence Day
Yea Linda! I always eat at Oakwood when I get to TV!!!
Good to see you both! I hope you had a nice 4th Of July!!
That was great! Love you guys!
