    G#dim7 to Am sounds nice because it is like
    From E7b9 to Am but the E in the bass left out.
    So it is like a V I progression in disguise 😉

    Another way I like to look at it for passing diminished chords is the diminished triad can be extracted from a dominant 7th of the chord you are passing to. So for the progression: F-Am, you can take the dominant 7 of the Am and get E7, then take the E out of the chord and you are left with F-G#dim-Am.

  • @LjHundred
    @LjHundred Před 4 lety +6

    As far as other uses, one I've always liked is moving from a minor chord, to the same chord, except half-diminished, meaning you only move the fifth a half-step down, maintaining the 7th (the C-chord version would be a C-D#-F#-A# after a regular Cm7), as a passing chord. Great video though

    • @LG-bi1sr
      @LG-bi1sr Před 2 lety

      Did you find out? I'm wondering when you use diminished chords as passing chords if you can go "outside" the scale. The intension is to create tension for release and playing outside the scale creates that, so it would make sense. I guess, when you implement notes utside the scale, you look for chords that doesn't sound too weird from the chord you came from and the next chord inside the scale has a nice/good release.
