I almost forgot to watch this today
jy, you forgot
Some Fredrik and Morgan a day keeps the mainstream life away
Hahahah I feel you
Lolol
I downloaded this on Kazaa kind of by mistake 20 years ago and I still have to get my ThorAgren battery charged regularly.
Everyone should have someone in their life who looks at them, the way Thordendal looks at Agren in this video.
Which one is which?
@@sentientcardboarddumpster7900 Fredrik is the guitarist. Morgan the drummer. Dude played with Zappa in his teen. Of course Fredrik looks at him with awe and for others reasons as well.
He's looking at him like that thinking 'thank you so much for putting my playing into some kind of context, otherwise this would be nothing'!
The more you know about music the more insane this performance becomes
theirs alot you can do with different time signatures.
It really makes me happy knowing there is still a lof of people watching this :0
@@mouteg2176 its so pleasant yet really heavy. its like metal jazz and i love it
totally agree
@@koalamusic812 And THERE'S A LOT you can do with grammar lessons.
amazing how this was on public service television in sweden.
Yeah, once we were open minded, then came the Iraq war and rise of right wing extremism/nationalism.
Just insane!
Love how Fredrik just smiles when Morgan go mayhem!!!
At around the 4:58 mark Thordendal goes over into palm muted chords that makes me want to stage dive out of my existing life, and into another one.
Morgan is one of best drummers in the world.
I want people to understand, in case it is not clear. YEAR 2001.
I will NEVER get sick of hearing this
I want someone to look at me like Fredrik looks at Morgan
I've been watching this video since 2006. I still find room for amazement everytime.
Hahaha same here except I think I was watching it even earlier.
same here. keep coming back for more 🥲
incredible still in 2020
It simply does not get old.
And 2022 !
And 2023!
Incredible forever
they need to do this again in 2024
I love when talent acknowledges talent the smile says it all
my heart races every time i watch this, as if i do not focus they will mess up
Fantastic. Great to finally find a version with good audio
Good ! I mixed the video with Morgan Agren audio.
@@octional Thanks again!
@@octional thanks man, really apreciate it
This is one of my favorite pieces of music, EVER!
This sounds really good for such an old ass video. Those drums are crispy as hell
This was shot for an educational channel and likely had a professional music tech setting up all of the mics. Morgan Ågren has the entire show on his channel made from the original tapes.
@heavenly2k
What Do You mean i ve Seen Live Concert Footage of Megadeth of 1992 that Sounds Really Good.
Girls: "His probably out there cheating on me"
Boys:
I usually don't care for "ringy" snares but god damn that snare sounds good.

3 dislike :Virgil Donati, the old person living near the studio , and.. À bassist
XD But why Vigil Donati?) Because of the way he is holding his drum sticks?
Virgile donati because agren IS concurrencing his genius.sorry for m'y english.from France
Video now has only 2 dislike so I guess Virgil read the comments, had a change of heart, and purged the dislike
Ah ah yes, Virgile took a môment for compassion :)..do you know kaipa ? And opeth ? I m a musicien, and flowerkings fan too,so i Can guess people from the North are full of talents !
@@siloagrain2176 I've played Kapia (new millenium edition) TO BITS and currently enjoying Roine Stolt with Transatlantic (the Absolute Universe). It's good stuff.
Also, don't miss Nad Sylvans stuff with the "Vampirate Trilogy" and Jonas Reingold with Karmakanic
public television at its best
Didn t forgit to listen to this today
I feel like a more accomplished human for just having listened to this, all the way through, obviously. The mad bits at the end raised my IQ for hearing it.
i'll never tire of this
Slick move by Fredrik at 4:45
I Love that Part that Starts at 2:35
Jeezis I can’t give this performance enough praise or respect.
I’m so glad I found it.
sick groove, Fredrik is king 🤘
I did t forgot to watch this today
Stolen comment.
2022 and still great.
Still a big yes from me. And I listen to the newest meshuggah albums every single day as well.
About to break the plasma machine with how fast my bloods pumping 😈
I know this video for years and only now found out there's a decent quality version on youtube! Amazing, thanks for the upload
Thank god it's on Spotify after all those years waiting
Sol Niger Within is on spotify? Or this medley? WOW
@@personnel5757 this very medley, check out Mats/Morgan, the quality is insane
dawg ive been looking for the HQ version of this forever. Thank you so much
I have to watchi this religiously every now and then hahaha
Had no idea about how good the end is...wow. yea first time hearing it
HOORAY FOR HIGH QUALITY AUDIO! Seriously, thank you for sharing.
Outstanding.
This is as close as you can get to 2 men having sex without them having sex.
No homo
True. There is an amazing intimate connection when you perform with someone like this
finally a better audio quality
I love Fredrik and I love meshuggah and I do play guitar myself... But admiring the guitar playing during this song is like visiting Jurassic Park for the goats.
Yes, very simple guitar playing… But it’s like the guitarist plays a nice and complementing baseline for the drummer… But yeah the drummer is the main star in this one.
You should check out the whole album... Sol Niger Within by Fredrik Thordendal... released in 1997.
@@TemalCageman I am swedish I was studying music at uni when this was originally aired on TV here. The special Defects stuff is great I agree and a great recommendation.
Peace
Toki Wartooth still shreddin in 2021
0:57 the brutality of this riff is impossible to fathom
i hope corey taylor would add some vocal to it xD
@@Ocidad And by Corey Taylor you mean Jens Kidman
@@Kolbein837 yep thats the right one
5:41 even crazier
1:37 is one of the most brutal shits that I've ever heard. My jaw always goes down with so much enthusiasm when i listen to this part!
Again and again :D
1:37 Concealing Fate Part III: The Impossible (lasts riffs)
Lots of tracks kn TesseracT's One were inspired by Sol Niger Within without a doubt.
The magic which happens when jazz (drumming) meets metal guitar.
Sounds nothing like jazz drums though.
5:01 RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Så sant haha ;)
Toki is kill'n it.
@JeffReams
Toki Wartooth is seriously based of this Guy
Fantastic.
00:49 and on cymbal sounds killer.
Thank You Very Much! This one sounds way better!
it is my life goal to figure out and successfully play the drum part at 5:00 so brutal!!
8 years and not a single Dislike.
JackCarver10 you enabled a couple “comedians”. they probably feel real smart
@@illlanoize23 I am so sorry. Painted the devil on the wall.
3 dislike perhaps Virgil Donati, Chris Coleman and... a bassist.
3 dislike :Virgil Donati, cris Coleman and.. À bassist without a contract.
@@siloagrain2176 most probably another guitarist who's gonna complain about "the feeling" 😁😁
Meshujazz🤘🎶🎸🥁
totally killer!!
That riff at 1:28 is fucking nasty
BEST!!! :)
And again :D
uffffffffffffffffffffffff
f*cking gods!!!
🤘🏻👁️🤘🏻. Carpe diem.
Fredrik is so cool, his guitar keeps soundig even whe he doesn't play it at 4:45 xD
He pressed strings with the left hand. It sounded more muted because of it, it would have sounded harsher with a pick. (I might be wrong, i do not play)
what's up with the shopping list attached to the string?
It is tape to mute the bottom strings
I miss Fredrik's writing big time. The songs are unquestionably alot different and Meshuggah is better by miles when he's involved
same
I have a pretty good memory, and I’m pretty decent at both drums and guitar, but no fucking way am I playing either part of this.
haha its not that bad tbh , im throwing up a fretless bass cover of this tomorrow check it out :)
Utbildnings Radion (UR)
Do somebody know something more about Fredrik's sound from those days, guys? What exactly is this Ibanez, what's the tunning (I guess it's "G"), what Head (guitar amp) did he used - Messa, Marshall, Peavy... and what cabinet. The whole sound is dope!
He was tuning to B flat standard, and im guessing he was using a marshall valvestate since thats what he used live then, and for cab i dont really know
What's the deal with the tape on the higher strings!? Is that so he doesn't have them ring out on accident? 🤔
Mute
Ah fuck.. yeah!
Bless you!
Duck tape
2.50 my mother was cured of alzeihmer
I’m curious about the guitar inlay at the 12th fret. It says 33 as in catch 33 but that wouldn’t come out for another 4 years and it was on 8 string. Maybe I’m missing something
My only guess is that for one they already had planned for 33 even back then, most of their stuff, even to this day, relate somehow to Catch 33. I've also read 33 has a symbolic meaning to it, which may also be why they use it constantly even outside of the album and before it.
Lol. It’s like a chicken and egg scenario. What came first the album or the guitar?
@@SnipE_mS fredrik's had an obsession with the number 33 seemingly all his life. sol niger within's second recording done in 1999 was renamed to ''version 3.33'' so, the guitar definitely came first.
@@kenshiku could you tell me what's the meaning of this number? it's probably something personal of his and we'll likely never find out the real meaning, so google is our next best resort
we should ask fredrik personally.
what’s the name of this song
Sol Niger Within.
title
@@umi5082 I thought that was the name of the album
@@mattykeys this is a medley of the album sol niger within. It's on the album "trum" by mats/morgan
Why the fuck are there so many versions of this video? I used to have the HD one in may favorites and it got taken down. I guess this'll have to do........
why does fredrick look like a yak
does anyone know how when Fredrik plays the riff at 3:52 the pitch seems to be going up and down without any indication of him changing the pitch with his hands?
Hes just alternating between palm muting a chord and muting with his fret hand.
See how his right hand is out of the frame. I think he's alternating between the 7th and the 6th string. I don't think he's bending at all.
Or on the same 7th string. The notes are clearly changing a few steps. If it was just palm muted and then released, the note would be the same but with different tone.
djent
@@supra1988tg It's what this person said.
What's that thing on the guitar string..
Looks like duct tape to mute the strings.
where the fuck is the down
where can i find the sheet notation of the drums and the guitar?
nowhere
Mordor
99.9% of rock music has no notation.
lol!
Bottom line is, get yourself a good drummer.
wtf
