  • I swap out the fuel pump in my '65 Corvair. Mechanical fuel pumps can be a Corviar's Achilles Heel.

Where did you source your spare pump? I see Clarks won’t be available till next year. I was thinking of getting one from NAPA.

I got it from Rock Auto. The push rod is too long. I’ve since gone electric.

I’m starting to think about going electric as well. My understanding is that almost all aftermarket pumps have the pushrod too long. Not that you’d care at this point, but you can obviously file it down or disassemble and use the diaphragms and transfer them to you old pump. I think I’ll try that before I give up.

I had my replacement mechanical pump go bad after three weeks, And that one replaced the original (to me) pump that I had on for less than three months. So it's electric for me at this point.

      I’ll be doing the same.

@@bigalsgarage9323 The previous owner of my Corvair reached out to me to let me know that Corvair Ranch has got new gasket material and are either providing rebuild kits, or rebuilt pumps for sale. Corvair Ranch doesn't list it on their website, so you have to call I guess. David and Liz have really helped me with the ins and outs of Corvair ownership. :)
But it's a bit late for me since I now have everything I need to do the electric conversion.

Neat trick spinning the pump rather than removing the T fitting. Does your 140 run ok with secondaries blocked off?

Haha, thanks! The car runs well enough without the secondaries, but I plan on rebuilding and reinstalling them. The previous owner removed them.
