Marine Rewilding Dive Surveys Part 1

Baselining is at the beginning of everything we do at Highlands Rewilding. Marine Rewilding Lead David Smyth is responsible for surveying the rich #nature off the coast of Tayvallich estate in #Argyllshire on the west coast of #Scotland. 1/2
In this short film, David uses ‘quadrat sampling’ to show how organisms within small areas (the quadrat), are counted directly to estimate population abundance, density, frequency and distribution.

There is a lot of pristine marine habitats here which just don't need any attention. We're sort of a guardian of these priority marine habitats within Highlands Rewilding, and there's a responsibility and obligation on us to protect and maintain their conservational health.
So a lot of the work we're doing at the minute is mapping, assessing, recording what we have here presently, so we have a baseline whereby we come under, if things are improving or deteriorating or whether we need to step in and fix or repair any damage that's been created.
