  • This time we go over viewer comments in preparation for an attempt at sorting out the high idle issue and we have a look at a few other viewer suggested points as well. Unfortunately, we discover what may well be a blown head gasket:(

Exciting times have arrived and with them a new group of videos begins!
My wonderful girlfriend Judy and I have finally pick up our own Sidekick!
Join us for fun and frustration as we tackle the multitude of issues within and try to make a decent rig out of this little beater.
The plans include a new transmission, a head gasket (or new engine), a ton of rust repair, bumpers, rock sliders, a suspension lift and much, much more.
This is an opportunity for Judy to learn all sorts of repair and maintenance skills and get her hands dirty with a bit of basic fab work as well. Maybe you'll pick up a tip or trick as well or, better yet, pass some on to us!
As always, thanks very much for watching.

Glad to help. You have an 8v engine btw. May be worth mentioning that mine had white smoke at startup recently and found that the shift modulator on my transmission had went bad and was pulling fluid through the vacuum hose and burning it. Have you been losing any? These things sure are addictive. Lol

Thanks again Bobby... I thought ours was a 16valve. I'll check the trans level but I found a thick, white coating on the bottom of the oil cap so I'm guessing that also points to a blown head gasket?

Great stuff guys! So glad people could help you out to get to the bottom of the issues.
I got very confused when you jumped in the drivers side to open the hood, because I'm in the UK and that is the side where the hood latch is 🤣
You can test most sensors using a multimeter, some need a change in temperature to register different resistances. If you look up Frank Cook on CZcams he shows testing some on his Sidekick.
Others are pure wizardry and no idea how they work🤣
Some are only a couple of bucks or I have a bunch of spares so I "test" them by replacing them and see if it makes a difference.
I love seeing you figuring stuff out as you go. I know nothing about cars and just use trial and error to solve problems.
    Good luck with it!
    All the best.

Hi Al! I guess the hood latch makes a lot more sense on the other side of the pond ;)
I'll check out that video and maybe I'll buy some spares of the sensors as time goes on.
Thanks very much for your support!
