At least Saudi Arabia is a neutral country. Therefore, the Russian and Belarussian players will not have to face discrimination due to their nationalities like they do in the US and European tournaments. And Chris Everett is talking about equality. How is it equality when players are being discriminated against because of their nationalities and race? How is it equality when the draws are rigged to make it harder for certain players in tournaments? They are also considering Prague for the WTA finals. Just recently it was both Poland the Czech Republic who refused to let Russians and Belarusians players compete there. So not only will it be better in Saudi Arabia, but also more money for the players. It is amazing how some people pretend not to see their own faults.

Saudi Arabia has made strides in recent years. A country cannot be expected to change overnight, but the Saudis are trying. Besides judging another culture is hypocritical. There isn't a country out there that hasn't committed atrocities in recent times. That is especially true of France, the UK and the US, and they are all hosting majors.

But, are they changing? Really? The WTA and ATF would be hypocritical because they take Chinese and Russian money.

Why don't people just respect the laws that govern that country and abide by their laws. Saudi Arabia is one of the safest countries in the world...maybe people should rather concentrate on why this is so and amend their way of running countries. Cultures and religions should be respected.

Chris Evert has something to say about the Saudis
The same Chris Evert, accompanied by her fiance, Jimmy Connors, went to APARTHEID South Africa to purchase diamonds for their betrothal.
What did she think was being done to African women???
    Evert is extremely AMNESIAC!!!

@@guroux Saudi Arabia is obviously more traditional and conservative than Western societies, but like most Middle Eastern countries, it is adapting and evolving in its own way.
That being said, there is a movement in the US and Europe at the moment blaming societal issues such as high unemployment, low birth rates, aging populations, etc...on the emancipation of women. This is not just men, but women too, asserting that women must return to their traditional function of marriage and children, insisting on the complete celibacy of women until marriage etc...It is in fact mainly women who are slut-shaming other women, claiming that women should remain virgins until they marry, as their virginity and subservience is all that they have to offer men.
Besides, extorting benefits out of Saudi Arabia, or any other country, is not the way to go. It is through dealings in good faith that change occurs most willingly. In the meanwhile, instead of lecturing Saudi Arabia on its shortcomings, perhaps France, the UK and the US can explain their butchering millions of Middle Easterners and Africans, mostly civilians, in the past 30 years. Israel is the biggest fascist state on Earth, constantly telling the world that Arabs are subhumans, and killing over 3,000 Palestinian children since 2000...and yet, they are hosting the Tel Aviv Open in a few weeks. In the meanwhile, Europeans and Americans support Israel after each atrocity, and arm them to continue the colonial occupation of Palestine and the murder of its innocent civilians with the use of conventional and unconventional weapons far more advanced than anything the Palestinians have in their arsenal.
Any American, British or French person who criticizes Saudi Arabia is either ignorant or hypocritical.
