    I started with my light (TLR RM2) mounted on the side of the fore grip. But since it was back from the end of the barrel a ways. I got a lot of shadowing. The barrel basically blocked one half of the beam throw. Ended up going with the 6 o'clock position. I get a lot better light spread.

  • @barrybrum
    @barrybrum Před 24 dny +1

    Foregrip mounted lights cast huge shadows from the barrel and magazine tube which can block your view of an attacker's hands or weaponry, especially with a sling/strap hanging in the way. Lights should be attached just behind the end of the barrel, on the magazine tube or the barrel itself. Even though weapon lights are designed to survive shock a foregrip mounted light on a pump shotgun will be submitted to even more destructive stress from the slamming back and forth while pumping ammo. Barrel mounted lights will not survive as long as magazine tube mounted lights.

    Great video and topic. I’ve ran into many of the same issues you discussed with trying to figure out a light setup for my 870. I’m not crazy about having lights mounted at the 3 or 9 o’clock because it doubles the width of the gun. Not a huge issue but just bugs me on my set up

    GG&G make a great forward sling mount that goes under the mag cap on the pump guns , both the Remington and Mossberg , it keeps the sling out of the way of the light , ether on the left or right side , and the Magpul para clip works with looped one .

    If you apply medium back pressure on the foregrip when dry firing you’ll notice that it stays locked in place upon pulling the trigger. However, under recoil, and the natural movement that takes place, the foregrip will slide right back without you having to do anything else. It’s the fastest way I’ve found to cycle a pump. Think of it almost like bump firing. Too much pressure backwards and it says locked. Not enough and you won’t come all the way back: usually results in either a hesitation in the cycle and a second action to finish pulling it back, or short shucking it and ending up with an empty chamber.
    Give it a try and see what you think. Crazy how fast you can get with a pump using this method.
    Last tip, should you decide to give it a try. Also focus on really holding/steadying the gun with your firing hand, shoulder and cheek. This gives some stability while allowing the hand on the foregrip to cycle automatically without a death grip.
    God bless. Thanks for the video.

      $600 is more than most average pump shotguns. You could put a protac or a surefire scout on an extended scout mount on a Magpul forend for like half the price, even less if you use a streamlight protac

  • @Vladpryde
    @Vladpryde Před rokem +1

    I just bought a new 590A1 yesterday on Gun Broker, my first "combat/home defense" shotgun. It has the 18.5" barrel, so my light mounting options are limited. I would get that Surefire forend, but it costs over $100 more than what I paid for the gun lol. However, it does have the M-Lok forend just like yours, so I'll probably mount a light that way.
    Before I even get to mounting a light, it needs several things first: a shorter LOP stock (either Hogue or Magpul, haven't decided which yet), and probably the front bead replaced with a XS big dot. But who knows....it could end up being the best $455 I've ever spent! Thanks for the video!

    In my opinion, shotgun light mounts are drastically behind the times. Universe shim type mounts are garbage on shotguns. Mounts that use the barrel as a mounting surface are crap too. Barrels get hot. Light mounts for shotguns should be custom-made for the exact diameter of the magazine tube, and the mounting surface should be sufficient to clamp very well to the tube. High-quality aluminum or steel. Locktite.
