With the whole Thanksgiving thing; during the 2016 election, my grandparents asked me what I thought about Bernie and how I felt about a democratic socialist my response was "I was a socialist before he made it cool." They laughed because just about everyone in the family had been socialist for generations and they never talked to me about it because I hadn't brought up politics before.

@@keishpie1 My grandma was telling stories this year about how her family was well off when she was growing up and had extra rooms in their house, so they would let 2-3 people that needed a place to stay for the night in and give them food. I often feel very lucky that my family has just always been that kind and caring.

They're pragmatic marxists. Matt Amber and Virgil definitely are for the eventual abolition of wage labor, Will and Felix mention stuff related to that far less often1 but probably agree, but I don't think any of them believe they'll live to see that. Their project is working on building socialism and surviving under capitalism. They don't advocate revolution because the left in the imperial core is soooooo weak that it's pointless. Building political power that won't be stomped out in 2 seconds seems to be what they want.

@halupadude : He ran before and is a known quantity to the Democratic electorate, and now we empirically know at least half of his support came as a protest against Clinton as those people have peeled off and are no longer interested him. As a known quantity to the electorate, it seems at most 20% are willing to support him, 20% is insufficient to win this primary race. Ergo, he literally cannot win save the other top 5 candidates dying.
Support his policies, but don't waste money on propping up another hopeless campaign.

But I've known since the spring that this primary is between Warren and Buttigieg. People here may as well pick the one they like the most now, because they'll be voting for one of them in November.
