How to make a doggie tie

- I make doggie ties for my grooming clients. I sew them with my sewing machine, but the stitches are basic. Materials needed, 15" x 5" of small print fabric (I use cotton, but any lightweight fabric with work) and interfacing, 1" x 2 1/2" wide scrap of fabric, and needle and thread. Email keyray@gmail.com to request copy of the pattern. I respond to requests in bulk, every 2-3 weeks. Do NOT send the request through the message feature here on CZcams! They don't send notifications when I receive a message, so I won't see your request.
I still have the pattern available on request. I'm not always timely in responding though. If you don't want to wait, go ahead and find me on Facebook. I created an album with jpegs with both sizes. I bought a child's stripes shirt from the charity shop for £1, cut the collar off at the seam leaving the top button intact, then made this tie with the body fabric....And now I have a really smart collar and tie for my little dog to wear at Christmas . the collar just buttons up round his neck, with the tie slip onto his proper collar.So simple and so smart. thank you for the tuition.

thanks! my salon started making them with fabric and rubber bands to just fold over and cinch, then i started doing it with wide ribbon, super easy that way. But I love how these turn out!

Wonderfully simple - thanks for sharing ! In order to help all these people who are looking for a pattern perhaps the best thing is just to tell them the original size of the fabric and then tell them the ANGLE of the cut offs on the end. In other words if you put your ruler against it what degree is the line at. That would allow people to make their own template and save you the trouble.

Yes. I have a 135 gallon aquarium nearby. My sewing machine is in a cabinet that rolls. I wish I had a dedicated craft room.

6 3/16" is the short end. The short angle is 5 5/8". The long angle is 6 5/8".

Hello, I would love to make these ties to sell with the dog collars that I make. I sell them at a local Farmer's Market and part of the proceeds go to our local humane society. Hi Kirstine. I am trying to make the pattern and can't seem to get my measurements the same as yours. My short end is not turning out to be 6 and 3/16 and therefore I get a seam on the point and it is not lining up..what am I doing wrong?

The other nice thing about these ties, is that they can be washed and reused. I think my dog has three or four of them.

I actually don't have an answer to that. I was mostly using fabric left over from making bows, so I never sat down and tried to get the most ties out of the fabric. Sorry I don't have the answer.
to make bias tape without a bias tape maker is simple put a pin in your iron cover the width you want the tape to be and pull the tape under the pin and iron as you pull. there are videos showing how to do it. pin must be all metal or a glass head pin just in case you touch it with your iron.

Hi Kirstine, I just saw your video on this cute little tie but I have a question. In the middle of your pattern, what is the width there. Because it looks wider than 4 inches or even 4.5 inches. FINALLY have the pattern scanned in the pattern so I have a .jpg pattern. I am slowly going through the list of people who gave me their email and sending it out. Email me at keyray@gmail.com if you don't receive it, or for future viewers, want to receive the pattern. Since no cost was involved in the pattern, it is free of charge. Both are cut in half and print out on regular size paper. You just cut them out and tape them together. If anyone has any questions (or problems---I am the only one who has tried out this pattern yet), please feel free to ask me here or email. I will try to respond in a more timely fashion. You can also send me a message on Facebook (just put an R as a middle initial--and spell my first name correctly and you should be able to find me easily enough).

Can you use a hot glue gun instead of sewing it?
I wouldn't try hot gluing this pattern. There are other patterns that use ribbon, that can be hot glued.
