I took a-levels so idt there is a cocurricular score, at least not any that I am aware of. I got 3A* 1A, a 4.0 ig?

    • @JoAnn_Kee

Hmm, why you didn’t go to the UK or other countries instead? I’m assuming you got stellar results, so maybe cost is the primary reason? But you also applied for the direct channel for UM, which meant that you were willing to fork out the higher tuition fee of 300k (lower than UK but still a sizeable amount).
I’m in a similar situation, and thinking of applying to UM MBBS with A levels. But I recently visited the UM campus, and I gotta say, it kinda made me lose all motivation to go there (don’t get me wrong, it looks alright, but a bit of a let down). If you get in through UPU, then it’s probably worth, but otherwise, paying 300k for this? Nah man. Also, doing an MBBS in Malaysia now doesn’t seem so great. Considering the issues of contract doctors and bully cases, you’re in for one hell of a ride. Grass isn’t greener in the UK either with their crumbling NHS, but it’s “slightly” better.
So, given your experience in the MBBS course, is it really worth 300k for the degree in UM? Because my chances of getting in through UPU are probably minuscule, even though I have perfect results. Or would it be better to just break the piggy bank and go for a UK uni?

      Hi! @ConditionalBee
Personally, the primary reason I studied in UM is that I have decided to work in Malaysia and pay isn't my main factor of consideration. Furthermore, I did not think that paying more than three fold of fees is worth it for a degree (that have similar recognition in the world, comparing um and in uk)
I would not comment on the comparisons between universities in Malaysia (UM) and the UK as I have not experienced both. (my experience in um is also incomplete as I'm just a first year medical student).
But I think the main thing is whether we are able to make the best out of it regardless of the country; & w that said, my experience in um has been fruitful and fun so far.
Last but not least, I strongly encourage you to apply to as many prestigious universities around the world, since you have the results! as you can learn alot from the application and interview process, and thr's no harm giving yourself more opportunities 🎉
So sorry for the late reply hope it isn't too late yet 🤭, If you have any further doubts/ qs you can reach out via insta @joannkee

@@JoAnn_Kee Well UPU results are out and not only did I get rejected from UM, I also did not get a single offer from UPU despite filling all ten slots 😂. Thanks for the informative comment though. You seem like a really good and kindhearted person, which I think was the reason you got in. Wish you good luck in your future studies!
Anyways, just leaving this message here as a word of caution to anyone that’s applying with A-Levels. Don’t hedge all your bets on UPU. There is a decent chance that you get absolutely nothing, even if you have 4A* or equivalent results. As for me, I’m going overseas 🎉.

@conditionalbee9603 Hii thank youu Yea the chances in getting Upu via a-levels can be slim, yet as long as u've tried and left no regrets I think that's great enough (and ya don't recommend putting all the eggs in one basket hehe).. Alsoo CONGRATS on getting in uni overseas!! suree you can enjoy the new chap of life there ^_^
