Reading Wrap Up December 2023!
What a tiring month December was! Still I managed to read 9 books and I am quite happy with that (even though I failed my TBR - shock of all shocks).
I hope you enjoy it!

Yes! The Little Prince is such a gem. I've also read Night Flight and Wind, Sand and Stars. Those are more like the memoirs of his (Saint-Exupery) adventures in aviation. He writes such evocative descriptions, I always lose myself completely in his stories.
Oh, that sounds so great! I have only read this one work of his, strangely. I am adding these to the TBR though, as they do sound amazing. Thank you Kim! 💖
❤📚👍...love that all the books were owned or borrowed. Happy reading in 2024.
The Little Prince was a first-time read for me this year. I listened to it on audio, but I would love to read it physically. I think I would get even more out of it that way. 😊
Yes, I have been surprisingly good with not buying books recently! ❤️📚 Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just have too many as is.
Ooo, you will definitely get more from The Little Prince if you read a physical copy. The author drew all the illustrations (of which there are many) himself and it somehow feels really personal when you go through the story.
I am sure it won't affect everyone the same way, it is meant to mean more than the sum of its words and each person will interpret it differently and based on what stage they are at in life. It just means so much to me I am afraid I might be overselling it a bit 😅
@libraryunbounded I buy books all too frequently, granted they are thrifted for the most part, but it gets overwhelming for sure.
Oooo, and now I really must pick up a copy of The Little Prince! 😁😉
Ah, I loooove thrifted books! There is something so exciting about a book that has "lived". It's a whole separate story in addition to the one carried by the pages! 💖📚
@@libraryunbounded I wholeheartedly agree!
I was going to read The Eleventh Cycle. After watching your review of it, I have changed my mind. Thanks for saving me money and time. lol 😊
Well, I hate to dissuade people from reading books, but honestly I kind of wished someone had saved me the time 😅
I hope your 2024 will be better than 2023 ♥ I listen to The Little Prince on audiobook for the first time a couple of years ago and I didn't really like it because I didn't 'get' it, but I think I need to try reading it to fully appreciate it - I hear such good things about it ☺
Thank you so much, Mac! ❤️
Indeed, The Little Prince is allegory through and through, so at face value it looks like a bunch of unrelated nonsense (actually, it is qualified as Literary nonsense, which is a subgenre of fiction). And i wouldn't recommend it to anyone as an audiobook, no matter how great the narrator. The physical copy contains drawings, all of which were made by the author and it feels more personal to read it that way.
The meaning of the story will vary for everyone, but it's core message (the way I see it) is the importance of maintaining our childlike innocence, which the little prince represents. It also speaks on loss, on finding a way to deal with it, on the tragedy of our inability to understand each other and the inherent loneliness of life. On the inevitability of growing up and what it robs us of.
Or at least it's how I see it. I think it's beautiful, but you don't have see it that way or even like it. I think we all project ourselves onto every story we read and that's one of the reasons why we don't always like the same things. ❤️
Your symbol over substance rant is so right!!!!! Thank you for being one of the few critiquing writing and plot instead of social aspects of the author
Thank you, Sophie! ❤️
It's the Maslow's Hammer phenomenon - If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail. So do people who are overly concerned with finding a certain type of issue. They will find the ghost of said issue in every situation and ignore the uncomfortable reality of everything else. 🤷♀️
@libraryunbounded oh interesting, I hadn't heard a name for it!
I’ve heard a lot of people say that about Eleventh Cycle. It was on my TBR, but now I may pass. And I remember the drama about The Lies We Sing to the Sea. I agree with everything you said.. I don’t agree with review bombing at all. ❤
Really? I am so happy to hear I'm not the only one (regarding Eleventh Cycle). Because looking at the Goodreads reviews, the vast majority give it 4 and 5 stars and while I can clearly see the good things in the book, the terrible writing quality and weak character development simply can't be ignored.
Yes, review bombing is insane these days. People seem to be lacking purpose so they throw themselves into the sweep of controversies just to have something big to be a part of. I wish we'd be more principled and less reactionary... ❤️
Omg I got a shout out!!!!!!
Lord of the books @@libraryunbounded
I have a dragon book from November too that I still haven’t finished. I temporarily DNF’d it too (Shadow of the Gods), I just need to read it when I want to so I completely get how you feel 😂😅
Ah, so good to know I'm not alone here! ❤️
