- Footage from a rehearsal I organised with local musicians from Exeter UK, playing my arrangements of the music of Barry Gray. I will have footage of this with BETTER AUDIO coming soon - this is just a taster.
This particular arrangement was made using the real manuscripts written by Barry Gray in 1975.
Space: 1999 Theme by Barry Gray & Vic Elms, arranged & conducted by Alfie Pugh, screaming guitar solo by Jonathan White.
This is incredible. I am a big Space: 1999 fan, and I am tearing up with emotion.
I feel the same, its a remarkable rendition.
Amazing beautiful. Brought me to tears because Tv shows now days have no passion for them songs now days their all the same :(
Agreed. Just watched Marvel agents of shield and NO theme song
Well said. People laugh at the fact that 50% of the music on my phone is old TV theme songs from the '60s, '70s, and '80s..
This was so cool it made me cry...45 years old...just blown away
Well call me Alpha because I'm blown away.
SPACE 1999 MOONBASE ALPHA MESSAGE
From Commander Koenig:
Dear band members.
We here on Moonbase Alpha in the Main Mission Control room have only just received the transmission of your music performance from 2015 covering our theme song. We are deeply touched and honored that you still remember us all these thousands of light years away and generations later. Excellent job. On behalf of all the Alphans here we thank you.
Keep reaching for the stars.
This is Commander Koenig Main Mission Control signing off.
End of communique.
R I P Mr. Martin Landau our Commander Koenig whom was married to actress Barbara Bain
Their daughter Juliet Landau is also an accomplished actress in her own right.
Martin and Julia both appeared in "Ed Wood Jr", and he won an Oscar for his magnificent portrayal of Bela Lugosi.
Don’t worry, Commander. We’ve discovered a stable wormhole in the Gamma Quadrant. We’ll have you back in no time.
Yes, she is! For all Buffy fans, she played Drusilla, just to let y'all know.
Commander have Cano connect the computer to radion transmission more is coming. Say Hi to Alene.
Unfortunately, this message was never seen , because the Earth had been blown apart when the Moon left orbit!
Excellent!!!
The lady with the cymbals at 1:33 is definitely having too much fun.
Haha I'll let her know
Not as much fun as the lady at 2:10 is having with the cymbals :p
The guy with the electric guitar, love that sound. It all still excites me with childhood memories of looking forward to this show and enjoying all the acting and FX of it's time.
Julie is a Great Girl!
Physically demanding she had to drink after lol
Not only was that played wonderfully and is a terrific performance, but I particularly like how the main theme modulated seamlessly into the end credits theme! Great job, great transition, great everything!
The ending was nearly perfect. I was imagining seeing Eagle 1 soring above the surface of the moon. Just like the end of the actual closing creditis!
This Episode !
Until you see all the instruments laid out in front of you, you never would have thought just how complex a piece of music it actually is.
When you listen to it in the opening an closing credits you almost think of it as a piece of fluff, but to see it played out in front of you and the arrangement required with that many varied instruments, it becomes more obvious how well the piece is put together
Barry Gray was a great composer, deserved far more recognition.
Kind of explains why the Musicians Union were all powerful back in the day.
Also why it made me so sad when they changed the theme for the second season.
@@STNeish They butchered the music (along with the show) in the second season.
@@ElectoneGuy I agree. However, I think they still had the same music within the episodes (I haven't watched them in so long, I really don't remember).
Awesome cover of Space 1999 Theme song
Memories of very happy childhood days. Sadly missed.
Such a wonderful, happy day when Gerry Anderson’s path collided with Barry Gray’s. Such iconic themes as this and of course, the March from Thunderbirds are in my DNA.
It was more like a decade. Barry Gray wrote for every one of the Anderson shows over more than a decade and they are all good.
Wow this is brilliant 👏
How many memories come to my mind with this Soundtrack Good Job Guys :-)
I love the expressions of joy on players faces:) The cymbalists are really having a great day!
Outstanding! Barry Gray and Vic Elms would have been so honored.
well done! That was great..had shivers down my spine at one point!
badass. This made my entire week.
Came here to applaud the music - then realised I recognised the venue. Proper job!
Oh, that was fun! I met my wife at a Space: 1999 convention. She would have loved this. (Thirty-seven years together. Wasn't enough...)
Amazing performance of the MoonBase Alpha Band ! ;-) AWESOME !!!
Moonbase Alpha Band?!
In space, no one can hear you orchestra(l maneuvres in the dark).
Absolutely brilliant!!
Barry gray should be up there with the GREAT composers, you can see that people love to play his music.
amazingly good
I cant stop playing it. Absolutely fantastic.
Hard to believe we lost the moon 20 years ago this September!
Lol! Omg that was awesome! One of the best themes ever and you guys did a great job. Some of those band members look too young to have ever watched the show!
I THINK BARRY GRAY WOULD APPROVE, WELL DONE ! ! !👍👍👍
Jesus T. Christ! Wow! That intro still hits you like brick wall dropped from orbit. Seeing it performed live was stunning.
Somewhere high above, Barry was looking down on this with pride
Wow! That is fantastic. Thanks for sharing!!
Awesome. Fabulous performance. They really don't make TV theme tunes like that anymore.
No dislikes.
Let's keep it that way.
Bah! Two jerks had to spoil it!
Who cares about the negatives? Not us.
20 dislikes ??? Why???
I always knew the guitar was a wind instrument!
JK!
This is a fantastic achievement.
Kudos to all who took part!
This is the first time I've seen a video representation of Barry's theme to this wonderful series.
It's just wonderful on a sad note neither composer Gray or Wadsworth year 2 are with us now I'd like to see both versions more visual yl represented in North America.
That was incredible!!! Thanks for posting.
I got chills and could not stop smiling! Wonderful! Beautifully done!
Wow. That was brilliant. Nice arrangement. And I love that everyone seemed to be having with it as well. :-)
That is bloody brilliant. Made my hair stand up.
wow wow wow INCREDIBLE!!!! Fantastic arrangement, all the variations were in there. so powerful. it's a great piece and hearing you all play it with such obvious enthusiasm made me quite emotional
R.I.P Martin Landau, Commander Koenig :(
Love this so much. They don't write great TV music like this very often anymore. Appreciate the enthusiasm of the players in this community orchestra. They are obviously having fun!
Barry Grey was a genius. The music still gives me chills.
I am as blown away as the Moon itself!
This is an example of when the "Like" or "Thumbs up" button is no way, shape, or form nearly enough! There needs to be a 'Freaking Awesome" button and it needs to be pressed over and over again.
This was terrific. I was shocked, when the camera finally panned over to you, to see how young you are! I was a kid when this show first aired; it's nice to see it has people who appreciate it generations later.
Great job guys
This is awesome. Took me back to the time when I watched them on TV
That was very cool. Those kids are great.
Back in 1975, I crying.
Very very good!!! BRAVO
Thank you for this real good play!
I love Space:1999!
Waiting for the better audio!

I love this! Please tell all of your members that they rock! I also love the fact that you assembled so many people representing different ages who are still grooving with music! And yes, your guitar player - impressive! Would love to see you all do even more wonderful music together!
OMG! MY FAVORITE SHOW OF ALL TIMES! SO MUCH APPRECIATED! JUST SHARED ON THE SPACE:1999 FB GROUP! BETTER SOUND WHEN?
That was SO realistic and authentic to the original that it gave me goosebumps and brought back such fond memories. I truly appreciated the enthusiasm and detail that the musicians brought to the execution of this original theme music. Excellent!
Great job. I always loved the intro to season one.
Hi Alfie, I am an italian musician and a music teacher. I love this version of Space 1999 Theme and I'd like to hear the better sound you promised of this same footage. Will you post this new video soon?

Genuinely brought a tear of happiness and rememberance to my eyes. What an underatted composer barry gray was.
You sound incredible! I'm a huge Space: 1999 fan and love hearing this.
Absolutely brilliant can’t stop playing it.
This beautiful cover gave me chills. So perfectly played.
Good to see the cymbal players switch off and share the joy.
Great comments all positive as I still enjoy watching "On the Buses". My wife who got married to me in India didn't know much about this program but although she doesn't say anything, she understands why I still watch it over and over again.Great dialogues and great lines. I would really like to be able to see the location where it was recorded which is 2 Malden Rd, Borehamwood WD6 1BW but I am sure it is not the same now
Great performance. I loved this show very much. Great job kids

Wow...my favourite Sci-Fi TV series Theme song.👍
One of the best science fiction TV shows ever! (Only the first season, of course)
And one of the best themes too! (Again, only the first season)
I thought I was alone in this ,now I realise I am not , thank you.
So very talented young musicians
What a beautiful score. Truly epic. I wish they had kept it for year 2.
Nice job ! All of you !
I thought this would be crap but it ain't, far from it, well done all this is fantastic.
I keep coming back here.
As a big fan of Space 1999 - Huge respect to these fantastic musicians! How interesting to think that so many of them weren't born when the TV show first aired. Just goes to show how some great themes continue to live on.
Well, that put a big, fat smile on my face. Fantastic job, everyone. Loved it :)
Thank you from California for this, so much... looking forward to a better quality post.
Fantastic! You are all true artists!
conductors absolutely loving it
So great and touching...in tears..
I turned my daughter onto SPACE: 1999, and she always comments that the score is very dramatic. I can't wait to show her this. Thanks for this.

WoW !! Merveilleux ! Bravo les jeunes!! J'avais 10-11 ans quand ce show passait à la télé et j'ai maintenant 57 ans et je suis toujours ému d'entendre cette pièce. Ca marqué ma jeunesse !
