Karl-Heinz Förster was very underrate great defender. Small, but very strong physically, great tackling skill and had great sense of positioning.

what I don't get about people is that the way football was back in the 70s 80s & 90s was far less advanced as it is today. You don't see the little tricks like what Ronaldo and all them do. Neuer is better in a lot of fields over Kahn *ex: sweeper keeper* Kahn is good on the ball and blocking a shot... Neuer gets you out of a pickle. What I am saying is, is that if u stick Kahn in goal vs Real Madrid, Barca, or even the modern Bayern Munich then he wont stand a chance.

Nice to see my two favourite defenders ever : Karl-Heinz Förster and Franz Beckenbauer. Karl-Heinz was the world´s best central defender in the 80´s. For me, the best and fairest tackler in football history. He was very strong in the air despite being only 178 cm tall.

Guillermo Joaquín Bello Lahm must be a close second to Beckenbauer; he's had only 16 fouls, 0 reds in ~300 appearances. Also he's only 1,70m!

The formation is spot on... Other superb German players that readily come to mind.. Matthias Sammer.. Andy Moeller.. Bertie Vogts.. Thomas Haessler...Rainier Bonhof. As great a forward as he certainly was.. I've no time for Klinsmann.. As like the French World Cup n Euro Championship winner.. Robert Pires.. 2 shameless play actors.

Great selection, not too biased towards present day or Bayern Munich alone. The one guy I'm missing is the third candidate for defensive midfield which should probably be Matthias Sammer.

What about Matthias Sammer? That would have been my pick as a defensive midfielder. Looks a little odd for me that people point out Littbarski and Effenberg (who IMHO should have made at least the extended selection)/ But noone seems to miss Sammer, who was one of the best defensive mitfielder ever. Is it because he is from east germany and people don't remember him as a Bundesliga player? Even though he played 2 Seasons for Stuttgart and 5 for Dortmund after the german reunion.

Good balanced team, but I think Jurgen Kohler should partner Beckenbauer... on pure defensive ability like tackling, man marking etc there was nobody better than Kohler... he was even good in the air... his strengths help cancel out Beckenbauer's weaknesses in my opinion... what a great defender Kohler was.

Andrew Lee As good as a player Reus is, he doesn't even come close to Jupp Heynckes, if you're referring to left attacking midfielder/left wing position. Heynckes is a true legend of the Bundesliga, and who can argue with Heynckes in the team when he was the second top goalscorer in the history of the Bundesliga, only behind 'Der Bomber'.
