- Time to finally get a look at the finish going on to the topside of the bar top, and get a look at it, after its installed.
Thank you to everyone for joining us, and keep watching. We are back to milling, and will have video coming up.
Well my wife and I sat and watched all these videos. Better than TV. Very in depth work. You know what you want in your work. Thank you for sharing. Iowa is watching 26 Degrees
Don't beat yourself up about the lost video parts on the btm finish. Over all presentation is very good!
Thank you very much. Just hated missing that initial finish hitting that wood for the first time. It really made the grain pop.
If we can find more time for the shop, we'll get some more project video. We are working g on Cabinet doors for our kitchen. Making them out of hickory that we milled a few years ago.
Thank you for checking out the channel. Hope to see you in the comment section again, soon.
It look great. Love the content
Boy I don't know what happened on that last comment....Void it. Very nice work. Would love it in my house if I had a bar. And I'm still jealous of your Eastern hardwoods.
No problem Geoffrey. I'll delete it. Eastern hardwoods are great, but those western cedars and pines, and for, are easier to work with.
Thank you for the compliments. This was a great project to work on.
Looks great. The bow ties just add a very cool look. Well done.
Thank you very much. I'm looking forward to doing more of the bow ties.
Wow, just wow. Pity I’m in UK. WHEN I RESTYLE MY KITCHEN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT TO BE ABLE TO GET SOME OF YOUR WORK TOPS MADE FROM CHERRY! RREALLY ENJOYED THIS SERIES. STAY SAFE! Stantheman
Thank you very much. Pity I'm in the US. With all the great history, and architecture in the UK, I'm sure I would find great inspiration to create.
Take care, and stay healthy Stan
Iron & Oak Sawmill Thank you Chuck & Debs. Keep on making those videos we enjoy so much. Just one question. When I see yourself and others milling with the woodmizer, there is often large quantities of sawdust piling up along the discharge route. If a tarp was laid on the ground it would collect it all and it could then be bagged and sold for use to lay down on oil spills etc. If it is the right sort of wood dust it could be used for pet bedding etc. Is this not worth doing? If not, where do you shift it all to? Glad you are out in the countryside away from this dreadful virus hitting the cities. Thanks once again. Stay safe! Stantheman.
Turned out great
Thank you James, and thank you for joining us on the build. May fo another one soon, but have to get caught up on some milling work. Videos to come for that.
Chuck..Deb..that is a piece of art! Well done you two! Wow!
Thank you very much. We had a great time building this one. We love the look of the cherry.
Howdy Chuck and Deb. I wish I had someplace that I could have a bar with a top like that on it. Beautiful finish on some beautiful wood. You did an awesome job Chuck.
Just finished the 5 videos on the bar top.WOW! Learned a lot. Thanks
That was a fun series, and the customer loved it. I'm glad you liked it. I may have another build coming up. Just need to get time in the shop.
I just watched the entire bar top build. Being somewhat new subscriber I have only seen you and Deb work the saw mill. I am very impressed with your craftsmanship. Look forward to seeing more projects.
Thank you very much Donald. I'm working on a small table now. Haven't filmed much. Guess I have to get the camera out there with me.
I love the festool sandpaper also. It makes for fast work and a piece last longer. A softer contour pad does a great job on the corners and edges. Very nice bar tops!
That sander is awesome. I actually look forward to sanding now. I'll be looking into that soft contour pad. Tha I you for the tip.
We had a blast building the top. Thank you Gaylon.
Hello my friend. The finale of great work was also amazing. A very nice design. Congratulations on this project. It's nice to create and share a variety of ideas to help many people. Thank you for sharing. Warm hug. Yours truly...Dude you're sneezing nicely :-) ..
Thank you my friend. The cherry is amazing wood. Hard, but looks beautiful.
I'm glad you joined us for the build. We like to see people enjoying the videos, and have fun sharing ideas. Thank you for joining us, and I hope to see you commenting on out other videos.
Ok super gorgeous work. Love your passion for the wood itself. No easy outside, just good hard work. The results show. We are fans. I actually learned a lot and hard great discussions with my husband about your methods.
Hello Sylvia and welcome to the mill. I've that passion, for as long as I can remember. Thank you for supporting us here, and I'm glad I was able to share some knowledge with you, and hope it has helped with some of your projects. Hope to see you again in the comment section.
Very nice
Thank you, and welcome to the channel.
A little late to the party but this is turning into an absolutely beautiful, down to earth, mother nature project!! I truly enjoyed the video. Thanks again for sharing your experience 👍👍👍👍👍👍and a ❤️ for both you guys.
Welcome back Barry. Better late than never.
This project was a blast to build. Some challenges that I never dealt with before, but a load of fun. We're glad you enjoyed it, and hope we can keep the good times rolling.
Take care my friend.
@@IronOakSawmill I'll tell this. Black Cherry is beautiful when done right. My Granny and Grandpa did their farmhouse living room and kitchen in it (sawmill rough cut. Actual thickness) as chair railing. I believe that is what it is called. They hand sanded it all. Of course that was in the mid sixties when I was a little fellar so I wasn't much help. This is the first time I've seen a live edge using Black Cherry. But it is worth every minute of it. Maybe you get paid enough to recover most costs in the tools. Y'all get that paid real quickly when people see this finished. Good luck and thanks for the trip down memory lane from the nineteen hundreds. Hee, hee.
@@barrywest3758 Cherry is great stuff for sure. Just tough to find big logs around here these days, unless you have a logger who can get them to you. Sounds like your Grandpa, and Grandma had good taste in lumber, and weren't afraid of doing the work themselves. I like that.
I cant say I recovered the cost of the new to0l with this job, but hopefully word will spread, and it will bring more projects to the shop.
Glad you enjoyed the bu9ld, and happy we were able to help recall some good memories.
Wow Deb you did a great job on this bar top.....LOL. We know Chuck that Deb was there for moral support. This bar top came out realty great and I'm sure the customer will love it. I would like to see you do a few more projects like this in between your sawing videos. Your use of the penetrating epoxy created a great surface for you finishing coats.
Thank you very much. Deb is great support, and a great hand on the mill for sure.
I have a project in mind for our next build. It involves welding, and I don't own a welder just yet. LOL
I have some sawing videos coming up. A few real special ones. Day light hours are getting longer, so time will allow more milling in the coming weeks.
That penetrating epoxy had me realizing that some not so perfect, beautiful pieces of wood, can now be used, instead of scrapping them. It was fun to use on this project. I hope to use it again soon.
Looks awesome, Chuck!
Thank you Jason.
Very nice build! Excellent product for the end result!
Thank you Kevin, and welcome to the channel. This one was great fun, and the customer is happy.
Well, ive watched each step and you did a fine job. Thank y'all for sharing.
That top was a joy to make. Used a few impetuous for the first time, and they worked out great. Not to mention, the customer was thrilled. I hope other folks learned a bit from the series. Thank you Jerry.
Absolutely stunning.
Thank you Donald. We had a lot of fun creating this one.
Enjoying this video series.
Thank you Don, and welcome to the channel. This was a great project. I'm glad you like it.
Beautiful wood, outstanding finish, well done sir!
Thank you very much. This was a fun build for sure.
Looks great! Nice work. That sander is sweet!!
Thank you. That sander kicks butt. Glad I finally pulled the trigger. I've been looking at them for over a year..
amazing, great work! keep up the content my friend - there are those who love it
Hello John, and welcome. Our plan is to keep going. We would like to add a camera or 2. Change the view for folks, and get more close ups of the work.
We'll keep up the content, if you keep coming back.
Thank you very much.
Awesome one of a kind work of art
Thank you Thomas. Its a pleasure to bring out the beauty in these slabs.
Great project!
Thank you Bobby. We are super pleased how this turned out, and the customer loved it. It was a fun build, and we even learned a few things while building this piece.
Thank you for stopping by, and we hope to see you in the comment section again.
If u want it as good as it can be u gotta get close to it
Absolutely agree. Throwing it into a machine isnt always the answer.
Beautiful job
Thank you Larry. This cherry is great looking stuff.
Forgot to type of wood but that is very beautiful
This is black cherry, with black walnut bowtie inlays
your table saw looks like mine. it has everything on it but the kitchen sink. when you have a small shop you do what you have to do.
Try sanding with brown paper bags instead of your 220! It's natural and biodegradable and free from your stores!
Bill
Hello Bill, and welcome to the channel.
I have heard of using newspaper when finish sanding a car, but not wood. I will have to give it a try. Now I just need to find paper bags. Most of the stores here use plastic....which I hate. I'll have to source some, and give it a try. Thank you for the tip, and hope see you on the channel more.
all the way from denmark. Can you please put a link up on, the oil and cleaning cloths you have used. Great work.
Welcome, and thank you for joining us here on the channel.
These aren't the exact cleaning clothes I used, but they are similar, and do work very well.
They are on Amazon.us, but I can't find them on Amazon.de

The finish I'm using is a wipe on polyurethane from Minwax Company. This is what I found on Amazon.de

I hope these links work for you. If not, please let me know, and we can work on finding something else.
Thank you again for joining us, and we hope to see you back again.
Looks stunning! What was the finish in the red bucket you applied?
Great videos. Thank you for sharing. I am replacing a piece of granite with wood. The granite is 12 inches wide. I hope to have a bar top of about 17-18 inches wide. The bar I will be attaching the top to is only 5-1/2 inches wide. Questions: 1. How did you attach the bar top? It looks like there is quite of bit of overhang. I'm concerned about folks leaning on the edge and how to make sure I get enough support so it doesn't break loose. 2. How wide is the bar that your top sits on? Should I use corbels for additional support?
The owner installed the bar top. I'm not sure how, but I voiced my opinion about that as well. He said he was going to add brackets to support it.
This is beautiful work! I just picked up a 7 foot slab myself and am looking to do basically the same (just without any of your talent). Wondering how the bar top was secured to the bar the customer built? Thanks.
Hello Chris, and welcome. Take your time, and your project will be great. Live edge make it a challenge, but it can be done.
We didn't mount the bar top. They wanted to do that themselves. I just reminded the to slot any holes in the base, and don't crank the screw super tight, so the wood can still move as it takes on, and releases moisture.
Thank you for your compliments. It is very much appreciated.
I hope your charging by the labor hour. that is like custom rod building all the cost is in the labor!!
With all the actual hand labor, you really have to. That sander saved the customer since it worked so well. That thing is definite quality.
