- Velma Duran interrupted proceedings during a gun law hearing in Texas to berate those who she says "enabled a shooter" during the Uvalde school massacre.
Two teachers and 19 students were killed during the attack in Uvalde, one of the worst school shootings in US history.
Velma Duran's sister Irma Garcia was one of two teachers killed at Robb Elementary School.

Not a military style rifle. It was a semi automatic. Military rifles have a switch for full auto, 3 round burst, or semi automatic itself. End of discussion.

while mass shootings have made its way to serbia, the way they’ve cracked down on guns is insane. there’s this one photo of 13500 military grade weapons they’ve seized and it’s crazy to imagine that the were that many weapons just floating around over there and how there’s definitely more. while when a shooting happens, our politicians pose for a photo with the same exact weapon model to post onto twitter.

This is unique to USA for obvious reasons related to various legislations (including gun), lack of welfare benefits to citizens and proper free health care.

It’s not even the us’s fault yes there is more shooting but this type of response doesn’t happen at anywhere else but Texas ( as far as I know ). There was another shooting where the officer heard a teacher call for help ( forgot places name ) and the officer immediately opened his truck and got a bigger firearm, called nearby officers to pull up, dident even wait for the officers to arrive and went straight in to stop the shooter.
Your information is false, in Brazil for example, with a much smaller population than the USA, murders are three times higher, rapes and robberies are absurdly higher and the population is unarmed.

There was one security in the premises, but he was shot. Tbh, they need like 3 cops in every school or more. And bullet-proof doors. Cuse, that's how the shooter got in. He shot the window and opened it from outside

This is true there are civilian and military grade assault rifles but the point she and many others are making is these weapons have no civilian use. Gun rights advocates even say these types of weapons are needed for "fighting the government"

More powerful but much more importantly have much bigger magazines. In active shooter situations someone is always going to die that is just the reality of guns. But if they were limited to a pistol it's always going to be 5 or less dead. If they have an ar it can easily be 30+ dead.

Im not American, Im Indonesian. This is tragic. How an 18 yo could afford stuff like that? I dunno the laws of this country, but its kinda stupid to allow civilian to own such weapon, and walked invincible. That's a real terrorism there, 18 yo, unbelievable.

After Newtown and now Uvalde, children's bodies obliterated bullets from automatic weapons, as Velma Duran told the panel. For the next one......and THERE will be the next one, will there be a brave family willing enough to share the results of what these weapons of war can do? Will the American media be brave enough to show them or will they be neutered by their special interest handlers?
Once this country is up close and personal with what these weapons can do to our innocent ones, there will be action.....not platitudes of thoughts and prayers.

The main issue with an Assult Weapons ban is that it would make millions, probably tens of millions, of Americans felons. Who is going to take their weapons away if they don't comply? Take every branch of the military, throw in cops and federal agents, and they would still be dwarfed in size compared to the number of assault rifle owners in America. It's not politics stopping these laws, it's logistics.

An amnesty period, where civilians are given the opportunity to hand over their firearms. It could go on for a year or so. Its not that difficult to resolve.

In the UK we’ve had nutters shooting people with rifles and hand guns but it’s extremely rare and nothing like the 30+ people being killed at a time with machine guns like in the US. Yes there are more people in the US but there were 647 mass shootings reported there last year which are numbers unseen across the whole of Europe.
