The goal keeper has taken a more tactical role in the modern through kickouts and even taking frees ,one keeper even plays as a sweeper .

I have to say as a Galic football goalkeeper myself and who has played a bit of soccer its a very very different type of goalkeeping. You are getting a leather ball hit a lot harder from closer in out of the hands so judging the ball can be very difficult

Mark Keane still plays for Collingwood. He's been in the team for the past few rounds but he was in Ireland for a bit of 2020.
It says this on his Wikipedia: "Keane returned to Ireland in 2020 and was brought on as a substitute for Cork against Kerry in the 2020 Munster Senior Football Championship. He scored the late goal that knocked Kerry out of the competition, in what was described as "one of the biggest upsets in recent championship history""

The fast language is the irish language. Most of the goalkeepers play out field for their clubs. None of the players get paid for playing football, hurling or camogie. Keep up the good work 👏

I've played near enough all positions back in the day. As a Midfielder, you run more than any soccer player, you get tackled and put off balance, slapped and punched and then with your last strength you hammer the ball low and hard into the corner. With the ball in hand, you are able to generate way more power, you give the keeper barely a chance to react, especially at 5-15 metres from the net.
As a keeper, I was a decent soccer keeper and known penalty stopper, I can assure you that it's much harder to predict where Gaelic football player will place the ball at 3-4x the speed of a soccer player. When it comes to penalties, Gaelic and Soccer are equal in terms of goalkeeping.

I think with a lot of the goals you are focusing too much on the strike itself whereas in gaelic it's harder to find space and the build up sometimes is more difficult than in football (more variety of skills needed). Also commentary is in irish so it's a completely different language which is why you can't understand

Goals are not very common in Gaelic Football actually, perhaps with only an average of a goal or two per team per game, with most of the scores being 'Points' kicked over the bar. Perhaps to give the keepers their due you should check out something like 'Best Gaelic Football Saves - Gaa'

I think you’re underestimating how difficult it is to save a shot someone takes from out of their hands lmao. try it yourself. it’s far harder to tell what direction the balls going to be hit from someone’s hands than from the floor where you have to shape your body more.

If you wanna get into Hurling next, take a look at my video, The Magic of Hurling 2020 - Best goals and points - czcams.com/video/i52BIRczUQ0/video.html. Or if you are sticking with football then you should check out the 2019 All-Ireland Final for some highlights of a particular game. Dublin won the replay, but the first match was an unbelievable game - czcams.com/video/kaumBmmhPi4/video.html. Or this one too: Dublin v Kerry: All-Ireland Football Semi-Final 2013, Last 8 Minutes of Play

It's easier to save the ball in Soccer than Gaelic Football. The ball is heavier, so cones at you like a rocket. The player having it in your hand allows you to keep the goalkeeper guessing more.

  • @galoglaich3281

there wouldn't be that many goals scored in last years intercounty championship and league ,because they were much less games due to covid so 23 would actually be a huge chunk.

You need to hold a Gaelic Football and also to have one kicked at you a blank range from the hands. The ball is much harder and heavier. Some lads switch between Soccer and Gaelic and they don't perform any better in a GAA goal or worse in an Association Football goal.

  • @xxdlyzzxx9286
    @xxdlyzzxx9286 Před rokem

It’s just that the ball is made of leather and it’s coming like a rocket from close range. But anyway goalkeepers usually are more focused on getting involved with the attack and distributing the ball. And for the last goal he scored that against one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time

I love where you paused it as well at the end. One of the biggest reason that would have been number 1 is because the Dublin goalkeeper, Stephen Cluxton has long been recognised as tbe best in the country. So it's always impressive when there was a score against him

@@RobReacts1 haha yeah I know what you mean. I just mean its literally the language of irish, not an accent or anything, a completely different language and new languages always sound fast.
As for keepers I think one of the reasons they may be a little worse is because its a much less important role in gaelic football. In football/soccer goals win games but in gaelic football its usually decided on points. The odd goal is useful but often teams will just rack up points instead of going for many goals. Distribution is a much bigger task for keepers. Also you have to remember its amatuer level and even some of the clips in this video were small local teams, not even counties so all the keepers will be way behind even league 2 level in the UK in terms of shot stopping.
As for the last clip, it definitely wasnt the best goal of the year but it may have been helped by being a goal in Dublin vs Kerry which is potential the biggest game of the year. Its like Messi beating a player and scoring in an el classico instead of vs Getafe.

Even if the commentary isn’t in Gaelic and the commentator is from Munster or Connaught when they speak English it’s usually unintelligible as they barely move their lips when they talk. Eddie O’Sullivan was a classic example when being interviewed after Ireland played. Interviewers eyes just glazed over!
