    Rick
    Probably before your time but back in the day of the early GSXRs the 1100 had a five speed box and the 750 had a 6 speed box so in production racing certain people and I know of one used to swap the boxes and at certain circuits you could hear him snick into sixth if your counting was good, took a while for the authorities to catch on!!!
    Great when you talk bikes and blueprinting production bikes was big business back then as the factory tolerances were poor to say the least it was even legal to knock off the flashing on engine castings as long as it wasn’t “machined”. Thanks for another great video and an insight into the world of engine building.
    Jon.

    Hi Ricky. Thank you for answering another one of my question. Could I please be cheeky and ask for 2 questions to be answered for next week:
    1. During your v8 buyers guide, you mentioned that the lower wishbones are now discontinued and that in order to get around this problem, you have to purchase majority of the V10 suspension conponents and convert them. How can you tell if this has been done if there is no evidence of receipts/invoices?
    2. Should you get a engine compression test done at a PPI? During Matt Armstrong's V8 video, his car produced good power but his engine was a right off when you compression tested it.
    P.S. my name is Waqar and I am a big fan of everyone at Re performance. You will hearing from me very soon when I book in a PPI through yourselves for a v8 manual that I want to purchase.
    Currently, the car purchase is not at the top of the priority list due to currently going through a house purchase (first world problem).

    Piston rings rotating in their graves as you said that- give them enough clearance and they’ll dance! 😂

  • @johngibson3837
    @johngibson3837 Před 8 měsíci +2

    Did what you asked for with the buttons, two strokes have pegged rings so the gaps dont get tangled up in the ports and cause grief, that's saying to me rings do or can move so in four strokes i guess they will move but not rotate as such, would love to see a tare down video from you on this

    • @neilbathe7752
      @neilbathe7752 Před 8 měsíci

      I thought that exact thing! I can only imagine that the amount of vibration in a 2-stroke, and the generally lighter build, and the disruption of crossing the open ports may well make a significant difference. Also, the impact (in all senses) of a piston ring on a 2-stroke "opening" into a port would be somewhat catastrophic - a 4-stroke ring "migrating" further towards the thrust centre a lot less catastrophic, but not ideal if you are chasing the last few percent... A second question would be, do all rings rotate/migrate/move equally? If top ring and second ring move differently, there would be a risk of the two ring ends lining up at some point... Things we never thought we would worry about! 😁

    • @johngibson3837
      @johngibson3837 Před 8 měsíci

      @@neilbathe7752 mate with a 2 stroke the ports and ring gap would cause failure as they can or would break, but thanks for thinking about it

    Hi Ricky & Kate, I've just subscribed after hearing what you said about the effects it has on the channel.i know you answer some questions about car related things but I have a couple about the tube stuff, firstly, when the adverts run during the video I generally skip them but do you have control over these/what they are/duration etc & do you benefit financially from these if I watch the whole thing, half of it or skip it?
    Secondly how much time does doing the videos take out of your week?

    Would love to see the next steps after measuring parts that don’t measure within your tolerances. So for example ‘belt sanding’ the pistons.
    Also which components can you modify yourself to bring them within tolerance (for a road car with no regulations). For example you can shave weight off your pistons but can you do anything if the piston ring groove depths are out of tolerance.

    For that question about engines being fast, reliable or cheap. I agree with everything you say but you forgot about two big things in the block that may rob power aside from heat and friction, that’s windage losses and crank space pressure/blow by. However, I totally agree you make the power in the head, the block if well put together just supports it.

    What happens when the people who make the rules don't understand the tech, whoever thought sealing an ECU would stop SW manipulation had no business being in that position. If it was an old pre CANbus rule the governing body should still have known it would need to be updated. Basically with software needs to be in homologation docs and part of scrutineering should be option of checking ECU's have right version on.
