I worked out some percentages. The M2 Air (base model) is 20% more expensive than the M1 Air in the US but 25% more expensive in the UK. Then there’s the comparison with the 14” MB Pro. The price difference between a base 14” MB Pro and spec’d-up M2 Air (extra GPUs, 16Gb memory, 512Gb SSD) is about 17% in the US but only 9% (just under, actually) in the UK. So I agree with your recommendation - base spec M2 Air, or 14” MB Pro; don’t load the M2 Air.

i want to use the macbook air mainly for image editing and 4k video editing. is the basic configuration of the m2 enough or would i prefer 16 gb ram?
Depends on the level of video editing you will be doing and which programs you intend on using
@@Techkhamun I use Lightroom classic luminar neo and for video editing Adobe premiere. My video editings skills are beginner’s 🤣😃

Each one is better for different reasons, what do you plan to use it for? What kind of work do you on your laptop? What programs do you use? How many tabs do you use?

So you only use your laptop for writing tasking for college and surfing the internet? You don’t use any professional programs?
The M-1 has a flaw in its chip that can be used by hackers to get control of your computer. According to experts, that flaw can't be fixed. The question is, did Apple fix that issue? The issue was discovered recently, so there is a possibility that the problem still remains.
Not sure if you have done some research on the topic, but firstly this isn’t just an M1 issue and secondly, it’s only been a couple weeks since this was found out so give them some time 🤦♂️😅 and thirdly, 99% of people won’t need to worry about just like when the the Spectre and Meltdown exploits were found out. This issue is with ANY ARM processor using a PAC security measure. The PACMAN attack will only be successful if a software vulnerability already exists on a system. This also isn’t an easy exploit to carry out as you would have to bypass a lot of other security measures to pull this off. It’s a lot to explain in a comment and I’m not really going to discuss it in a comment section 🤣 but if you are worried then just don’t use the internet as I’m sure there are more things in your life that can be hacked before someone goes after your M1 MacBook right, but like I said it’s been two weeks so give it time but I would say chrome is more hackable that this PacMan attack.
