I saw her live at a Chicago supper club on her last formal tour of America in the late 70's. She was a master illusionist/actress at that point who still could seem to be one of the most beautiful women in the world. She acted her songs and made them more effective for the most part than any singer who just sang them. She was incredible and deserves her status as a true show business legend. Others below also note how she worked tirelessly in the war years to bring hope and song and beauty to troops fighting the Nazis. Again, a true legend.
I have been at the concert in 1962. It was a dream, but all dreams end in some disappointment and that is that most of us are no longer here, just gone into memory. I am still around, but than, I am not famous, only a little bit. I am old as well and one day, well, I will be forgotten as so many of us are.
My Dad always had a certain fondness for this singer who would drive in a jeep up to the frontline troops to provide them with entertainment even though Hitler had a price on her head
I always thought She achieved great interpration and feeling call it stage craft with her live performances, lovely to hear this for the first time. I saw her 6 times and my favourite song is still`WHITE GRASS`.
I read her daughter's biography, written with some bitterness, but then again, to be able to meet some of the greatest people of the 20th century, she came home every night to cook dinner for her daughter after making movies at Paramount, cross the Atlantic in the Deauville suite of the Normandie, given a New York brownstone as a wedding gift, we should all be so traumatized!
@@sshowgirl933 Stephen Bach wrote the definitive bio. Maria told the truth sometimes but her book was very one sided and left out extremely important info, but included far too many dull details about her self.
@@taddyd1 yes you are right it was very one sided i think it was maria s feeling and truth and marlene was human going two find stephen bach bio thank you so much too see it one other way sorry i am french
She was such a wonderful Lady. Sweet, loyal, intelligent, talented glamorous and so many more things. I would give almost everything to talk with her for a couple of hours.
I always look forward to your next videos and you NEVER disappoint! Wonderful song, fabulous footage - thank you for putting it all together and sharing!
@IFINEVERSING Wow, you actually got to see her!!! How I envy you!!! I would give anything to see have seen her just once in one of her wonderful concerts!! All I managed was attending her funeral the day she was buried to say good bye to the last great diva and mythos we had, it was a very sad day. I so would have loved to see her at Vegas when she did the dance routine in her tails, I can't believe there's no video footage whatsoever from those Vegas concerts online. What concerts did u see

wonderful....is there any way this recital at the Paris Olympia could be shared? Her friend Piaf sang at the Olympia in september 1962. Shortly before her death in Oct 1963, she was thinking of her "rentrée à l'Olympia". She was so weakened and impoverished, that she was wasn't aware, this would never happen.
Look at Europe1 radio archive, they must have the full show recorded, snippets of some songs could be found at INA France archive (you could register there for free) in a many hours interview in French with her, it consists of many hours talks with her - 2 hour cut was issued on cd called Sacre Monstre - something like that , with a photo from Shanghai Express train on cover
Search CZcams. For example Marlene Dietrich in Berlin; in London etc. Some of her concert songs are on you Tube. I saw her concert in the UK in the 1960s. It was fantastic, She always wore the sexy dress and white mink cape.
Marlene dietrich in London (1964 show, some songs from 1st part were cut to fit one on vinyl , there is also Where Have all the Flowers gone from that show, which was released only in 1968 and sold at her concert as 7 inch single) At Cafe de paris 1954 (UK vinyl includes Go Away from my window, but exclude Lazy Afternoon and No love No nothing (actually early studio recording not live) Marlene dietrich warszawie (in Poland ) released only in 2015 on cd (must for marlene fans) recorded in 1966 and include songs that were cut at In London LP + rare don't smoke in bed . She sounds better there than in London (both very good) And of course Marlene Dietrich Ultimate 2CD , on 2nd there is 14 unissued performances, 3 songs from Chicago are Magnificen, especially Miss Otis Regrets

@dk215 Henry Pleasants, considered one of the great voice and singing critics of the 20th Century, mentioned in the preface to one of his famous books, THE GREAT POPULAR SINGERS, that Dietrich and Astaire knew more about phrasing and tiiming than almost any legit singers, but I appreciate your opinion. Either you're with her groove or it sounds crappy. I don't get Willie Nelson either. Then there's Madona, Paula Abdul, or Janet Jackson. At least Dietrich never lip synced..

It's all subjective, of course. I find her extremely charming, as an entire package. The fact that she is ethereal, multilingual and has such a deep voice, makes her very unique and appealing to me.
I can't take my eyes off her !!!! She was a truly Icon, the ultimate Diva !!!!
Marlene Singing Moon River in french is wonderful! the both version Audrey Hepburn and this are the best of all!
She's a GODDESS! I get goosebumps watching her!! Every bit of her is electric!

Must have been the early '70s. Marlene stopped touring in the USA in 1974. She stopped touring altogether in 1975.

How was she? Did you like the first or second half of the show more ? First was in dress, second in shorts and jacket with 10 dancers
She was born in 1903 so this would make her about 59 years old!🧐🤔🤗@@savelysavely2483

The daughter was jealous of and bitter towards mommy. Made a cool million on the vicious book.

a bit of a contrast to edith bunker's rendition of this song, you might say...
I think the French sung section works the best.
