  • Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan is joined by political columnist at The Sun, Trevor Kavanagh, to discuss Rishi Sunak’s shock general election announcement.
Heavy rain poured down on the Prime Minister, who spoke from a lectern outside No 10 without an umbrella as Westminster was hit by heavy downpours.
Mr Sunak, wearing a suit with a light blue tie, became increasingly soaked during the speech - which began at around 5.15pm on Wednesday.

@PeterPan-oz4sq I mean id rather have a labour MP who isn't earning a billion pounds per year with his wife from doing dodgy deal during lockdown and making sure their assest are protected by new laws, yes we need a overhaul but till we step up like France and everyone joins together then it won't happen, we already have people against the country so we won't get the help or support from government's when all these issues keep happening and they keep supporting the wrong ideology like killing dogs but not charging the person such a backwards country at this rate, child labour will be back at this rate

A soggy announcement by a soggy PM. I feel sorry for Rishi: he has tried so hard to fit into British politics, embracing the neoconservative narrative regarding Ukraine, attempting to deal with immigration, both legal and illegal, despite being the son of immigrants himself, a technocratic rather than a charismatic politician. But it hasn’t worked. We know the Conservatives under his leadership will be trounced at the polls. He will be beaten by the Labour Party and their lacklustre leader Starmer. The UK is in deep trouble!

I will still vote for Reform as any voice that they have in parliament will be important.
Both main parties are realising that Reform can be a force to reckon with, and will hopefully start to listen to the people.
For anyone concerned about the stability of the country, note that the country is run by civil servants, so UK plc will continue as normal.
What we need is both main parties seeing Reform biting at their heels, and starting to listen to the people and tackle mass migration and forced multiculturalism.
    Vote Reform UK.

I never thought any PM of any party could surpass Liz Truss in being absolutely useless, clueless and completely weak, but the Tories found one in Liz Truss' successor. That speech was appalling and banal. He was firing the starting gun for the General Election campaign, his party is 15-20 points behind Labour, he should've come out fighting with a rousing speech to rally his troops and the country. Instead he was drowned out by both D-Ream and the rain. Wouldn't surprise me if the Grandees in the party had a quiet word with him and placed an interim leader in, because to all intents and purposes they are finished, and they know they are going to be lucky to come third to the Lib Dems come the next parliament. The way he walked back into Drowning St after that speech just said Defeated before we've even started....
