    I was 13 in 1979 when this aired. So many wonderful things about this: the genius of Pryor and the wit of Carson. Donna Summer was the star singer on the radio and the Pittsburgh Steelers were NFL champions. The best of times.

      A Song For Dee Vee Yeah but its always difficult to watch Carson struggle with the obvious discomfort he feels with Richards "blackness"....im sure other people see it too. Its cringy at times.

      @kawaiiafangirl Před 4 lety +3

      I absolutely agree. It seems like at some point in the 90s that these interviews started to sound too rehearsed. I've watched numerous Carson and Letterman interviews from the 70s and 80s as well as some from Dick Cavett, Merv Griffin, and Mike Douglas and they all sound authentic and real- there would be lulls of course but it all sounded genuine at the very least.

    • @SunAndMirror
      @SunAndMirror Před 3 lety +2

      Mhm. With the old Carson and such, convos are a lot looser. Obviously there are talking points but, man...modern talkshows just slam the segue right into the next topic like a brick wall. They get done plugging a movie and out of nowhere a really specific personal topic, "So i heard you were teaching your daughter how to ride a bicycle!"

    “Richard Pryor: Live in Concert” was the FIRST time a film was released of just a comic doing a stand up routine. It was VERY innovative at the time. Pryor kinda has his “Bustin’ Loose”, “Stir Crazy” look here. It’s interesting the film was called “Family Dreams” later renamed “Bustin’ Loose”.

    He is so right about the treatment of the elderly in hospitals or out. Today people seem to idolize "first responders" and others like tv and movie stars and such. Well these people all get old and then they are dropped like a sack of potatoes. Other cultures revere their elders and should. In the U.S. they are treated like shit. The budget for elder services should be higher than the military budget. Kids want everything and want it now but it shouldn't work that way. You hear Richard Pryor say he's been in the business 20 years and has worked every day. It doesn't come easy you have to work at anything you do. When your time is up you should be assured you will be cared for with dignity. We are all assured of one thing after birth and that's death. Respect your elders and care for them until they pass on its only right so let's start to change things in this country and make our elders want for nothing.

      Young people are angry at older people (and vice versa) because the opportunities for a decent future are shrinking. Rather than blaming the system that has taken more and more away from ordinary Americans, and enriched only the very wealthy, Americans resent everyone over (and under) a certain age. This is a society that views most people ultimately disposable, and it is tearing the country apart.

    I saw it 'back when', and it's still such a great interview. Nah. Make that, a great interaction.
    I'm crying.
    I don't know if it's because I miss these brilliant, beautiful men, or because I'm laughing so hard. Probably for both reasons.
    I've been watching, and enjoying Johnny since his first Tonight Show from New York.
    I recently saw Richard in the movie he was describing here. Actually, I had already seen it in the theatre first-run. They changed the title, and released it as 'Busting Loose'. I highly recommend it.
    Richard was so wonderful in this. He was fabulous with his many dramatic moments, as well as his comedic ones.
    I do miss both of these gentle men.
    RIP, Johnny and Richard, and thanx so very much for the magic, music, and memories.

    Pryor was not amused that Carson was wearing blackface in a commercial. But overall you can tell they like each other.
