She is one of those artists who sounds better live. It's not that studio versions are bad, they are perfect, she just manages to bring something new every time!

Recordings diminish sound no matter what they do. So when you hear the real deal live it will always sound better. Eivor is the greatest vocalist on the planet so recording studios only diminish her sound. She needs good venues with good acoustics.

Eivør is magical in her singing. When you come under her 'spell' there is no way turning back, in a good way. :) Love your reactions to her, because I can feel you, friend. You are not alone, in going the rabbit hole, which is Eivør. :D

I love her too - she is absolutely fabulous and I so enjoyed her on line concerts from her living room during Covid isolation- she is sweet and humble and I adore her - see what I mean about it not having to be in English- She sings to your inner being

Really, really beautiful. She is so creative and so amazingly talented, she takes my breath away. I started with Falling Free at Torshavn too, mind blowing, and am obsessed with Truth at the moment, it’s so sultry, smoky and atmospheric, truly beautiful

Ah yes Mike, may I put in a vote for a reaction to her Salt live performance at Juke Train? More of that hand drum/shamanic drum action! Love that song.

This choir adds so much depth to this performance. She seems to love it as well. As if she is pulling energy from them. It´s so strong. Also I deffo had the feeling at 13:30 - 13:56 that the choir is as strong as the currents. Underneath strong and voilent and on the surfice, even, soft and calm. As if they are fighting over eachothers attention. JUST before the drop. So perfectly composed for those amazing singers.

Hey Mike, great you enjoyed it as much as I do every time. She is one of the few artists I know of, that are able to project her even exciting studio songs to next level in the live performances.
I can't wait to see her live, I'm counting the days ... 122 to go.
Suggestion for next song: 'Salt' preferably the train-warehouse live version.
    Cheers !

I love that you love Eivør❤️ and this was a great reaction video of my favorit song on Segl, thank you. I go to every consert that she has in the Faroes, last one was in may. She (and her band ofcourse) is ALWAYS absolutely fantasic! She is sweet and funny too, telling small storys between songs. One of my all time favorit songs by her is Boxes, here live in 2012. czcams.com/video/YEkYbolTyNQ/video.html

In Norway, we simply have adopted her. And If I sailed I am not sure I'd dare sail along the Faroe coast - being aware of what Sirens does to us.
The lyrics are quite straightforward. In Norse mythology, the siren was called "Rán" (literally "robbery"). This goddess of the sea took - stole. Hence you will find statues and monuments and lore all around the North Sea of those taken, those that never returned. Not to mention all the psalms and songs and prayers.
This is Eivør picking up that tradition in both words and tones.
If you like to hear a similar "ode" to the North Sea from Norway, Vamp has collaborated with Eivør - this is Tir Na Noir with Eivør at the same concert you saw "Trollabudnin": czcams.com/video/97HQ1U-uGaU/video.html&ab_channel=VampVamp.
The leader of Vamp has travelled extensively around the North Sea communities - studying what he calls "the music of the North Sea" as we have shared both genes and culture by boat for more than 1000 years.

You are so right about Eivor, she is one of the best artists I've ever heard. I just experienced her live one month ago, shes so bloody amazong, capitvating, talented, her way of interacting with the crowd is just so cool and compelling!
If you enjoy Eivor or Aurora then you should give another great scandinavian artist a go. Maria Franz from Heilung, Euzen or one of her more folky projects Songleikr, is one of a kind of her own, I'd say in a league with eivor. A good recommendation would be the song 'ulvetime' from Songleikr, or if you really wanna see what Maria can do is Heiling with 'in Maidjan' but that is crazy and special stuff =D its more the so called 'viking' kinda music.

  • @goeranm55

What she says on Instagram is so true about the room with silence and contemplation we all need, but to me there is also this everpresent relation to water. The Färö Islands live by, on, with and from the sea bringing food to people around the coasts (of all the nordic countries). But there is always the toll of human lives taken by the sea. I don't mean thay live with death by their side, but that a deeper recognition of our mortality is common along coasts. (Aurora is grown up in this tradition also on the west coast of Norway). I do think (and feel) this as an extra layer in this song, making it even more beautiful. AND: In old norse poetry, Sea and salt always refers masculinity (Listen to her "Salt" czcams.com/video/XG54HJ4yceU/video.html ) while earth and nature relates to feminity. Listen to her in "Min Modir" czcams.com/video/V4YMluUxI3w/video.html&ab_channel=IbanusLytraIbanusLytra You will understand he even more after hearing them. But you are extremely insightsfull about this music.

So pleased that you enjoyed Gullspunnin! Like you, I was blown away when I first heard Falling Free from Torshavn, and I've been a devoted fan of hers ever since, but Gullspunnin has a special beauty to it that's undeniable. Since you're so impressed with Eivor, you might listen to her 7:11 live performance of Wake Me Up, where she channels her inner Janis Joplin. You'll love it!!

Folktronic I think is the term! Thanks for this Mike, I'm glad you liked it, do listen to the other version too as you'll like that one too. it's more raw unplugged kinda thing. We both fell for her over falling free, in my case by watching another reaction channel and your reactions are very similar to how I felt after hearing each track. The Nordic countries' music emits a mood that I think you love or hate. I think her live performances are always better than recorded. I have no idea what it all means but it's great hearing the faeroese. I would really like to hear what you think of Wardruna - Kvitravn (white raven) it's the name of an album but is also the title of a single on it with an amazing mountain/forest/ice video. Its traditional viking brought up to date, it stops me in my tracks , esp it's first drop, I could go on for hours about this.......😆

Hey John, thanks for the comment and insight as always! So guess what, I did the white raven reaction in the same sitting as this Eivør reaction, but it got blocked for both visual and audio content. I'm trying something new for these. You can dispute the block by citing fair use. I'm still pending their decision on it, but will let you know.

@@Yeedeed man I feel your pain! How did you find it? I thought you might like it as it was totally epic. I assuming you have seen Wardruna play Helvegen live with aurora? If you look hard enough you'll find one version of that song with eivør instead of aurora.

      @Yeedeed  Před 3 lety

@@johnnyrich1 it was excellent, man, was really good! I am eager to hear more. So I havent heard the Aurora and warduna helvegen yet. I had kalandra fans ask me to listen to their wardruna helvegen cover before I even heard of Aurora, so I feel duty bound to get that out to those folks first. It's a struggle lol
